5-0 out of 5 stars Different Approach to Relationships
I used to think that if I just found the "perfect" way to do relationships, I would never get hurt or have my heart broken.
5-0 out of 5 stars True Love
C. S. Lewis is a great thinker and whatever he writes, he writes well. This book compares and contrasts the four kinds of love that one can personally experience and personally manifest towards others. It can definitely improve your love life!
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing analysis of loves
I was not especially expecting to be engrossed by a book about four greek words, but I was wrong. This was one of the better books that I have ever read.Lewis overviews each of the four types of love:storge (affection), phileo (friendship), eros (romantic love), and agape (charity or God-love).Each discussion was extremely insightful, especially the friendship one.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE VERY BEST AUDIO KJV BIBLE YOU CAN BUY!
Before I found this, I listened to Stephen Johnston. He is OK, but not expressive. Then I found Alexander Scourby's audio Bible. He reads it with such expression. There is no distracting dramazations or music, just his soothing voice. His reading style and expressions are so moving, you feel like he is sitting there next to you reading God's word! It is such a comfort to listen to Alexander Scourby. I do not listen to the other narrators anymore. And, I highly recommend this to you as the is the very best audio of the Bible that you will find. Alexander Scouby is truly the voice of the Bible! ... Read more

Among his many gifts, Joseph Campbell's most impressive was the unique ability to take a contemporary situation, such as the murder and funeral of President John F. Kennedy, and help us understand its impact in the context of ancient mythology. Herein lies the power of Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What a Wonderful Book
Joseph Campbell knows his subject, mythology and religious stories, so well that you can tell it has become instinctual for him to tie all the world's imagery and symbology together in a way that connects human beings in a truly transcendent way. This book clarifies how similar we all really are, at the core of our beings, despite where we live and in what millenia we are living in. So full of rich, thought-provoking conversation, I would recommend this to everyone, from young to old. It is just an awesome book that makes you fall in love with humans and human nature -- bad and good alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
Both Joseph Campbell and Bill Moyer create a must read from their historic interview. This book has become my blueprint.

5-0 out of 5 stars A book that seems to make religious nuts bitter.
Well versed and thought out, this book stands out and has been used in many of todays religion studies.Though some of his points can be perceived as "stretched", he is still a scholar in his field. It seems that the people that often criticize him and his works have little to no experience or education on the subject at hand and do it solely on the fact that it sometimes criticizes the monotony of modern and ancient religion.I recommend this book to everyone. Read the book and make your own educated determination. It could open your eyes and your mind.Or you can close your mind, avoid the book, and start a "crusade" against the author for speaking his opinion. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Very Useful and Practical Resource
I direct a language school, and speak Spanish already, but I bought this program because of some children who attend a total immersion program and who have been coming to me for exposure to Spanish outside the classroom. In other words, I have been using this program for non-native speakers of Spanish, not for Hispanics. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a true eye opener for personal safety
I think what I took away from reading this book was really a lesson in personal safety. I found myself really paying attention to everything going on around me and walking a little bit taller. This isn't for everyone but I found it a critical read living and working in the city at night. I actually was able to identify a bad scene unfolding in front of me and got my feet moving to avoid it. John Douglas presents the facts in a non-alarmist way while still putting great emphasis on what bad dudes are all about. This is a must read for anyone in law enforcement and anyone who likes to gain power through knowledge.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good insights into human nature
This was a very interesting book describing the rise of criminal profiling in the F.B.I.John Douglas pioneered the combination of psychology and crimaal catching which has become so popular today, especially since Thomas Harris' Silence of the Lambs, which showed the public how this new science works (in an exaggerated form, of course). This book details how that science developed, what it's benefits are, and why it should be used, but unfortunately Mr. Douglas doesn't really tell us a whole lot about how exactly it works. He looks at case files, examines autopsy reports, then comes up with a profile of the killer. All of the cases he records in this book are cases he got right (one wonders how many he has gotten wrong, since he mentions having done hundreds and hundreds of cases, and he only mentions a few dozen), yet he never really bridges the gap between case file analysis and criminal profiling.Perhaps he doesn't want us to know, so that criminals cannot use that information to their advantage. If so, he should have explained himself, as the books cover and intro are rather misleading.
3-0 out of 5 stars I CONFESS! I READ THIS BOOK!
Hey, I am not looking for a plea bargain here. I plead guilty to reading Mindhunter by John Douglas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Japanese Language - Good book
The Japanese complete course as exceptionally good value. Well written, great audio and a dictionary to complete the needs of a beginner.
2-0 out of 5 stars Boring without good grammar explanation
Although a lot of people seemed to have liked this book, for some reason I found it exceedingly boring and hard to work with. After all the pronunciation explanation, the first real lesson teaches you months and days of the week. That isn't really important...greetings etc. would be more important in my opinion. Besides the fact that remembering names of months and days is fairly difficult as they are abstract type things(12 months and 7 days makes 19 foreign phrases to remember right off the bat), and how often do you really reference them in real conversation? They then teach the compass directions north, south, etc. which i found completely pointless. How often do you say those in convesration? 3-0 out of 5 stars It's Useful for the Very Basics, but...
This is the book set I started with a year ago when I started learning Japanese. I have since looked at many basic grammar books, and I hesitate to say that this is the very best. It starts out slow and teaches the very basics of Japanese grammar very well, but once you get into topics like conjunctions, conditional phrases, etc., which I consider to still be basic grammar topics, the book starts to lack.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Just for the basics
This product is helpful to give you a basic tutorial of simple interaction phrases within the TWI dialect. The words and phrases that you learn will be useful if you are a tourist and need directions on getting places, or if you just want to be polite and courteaous to show that you made an effort to learn the native language.
4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Product
Really enjoy listening and repeating.Have been practicing with my husband and hopefully will be able to correspond with my husband's family when we return to Ghana. Only down side is too much blank time elapsed - tapes not very long.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you are starting from scatch, buy this because...........
It's a surprisingly easy way to learn some basic Twi.In terms of content, there isn't a great deal here. There are 10 lessons on 5 tapes - each lesson lasts about 30 minutes.I had to listen to each tape about 4 or 5 times before I really mastered it.But, when I went to Ghana, I was able to ask directions, ask for food and beer, tell a taxi driver where I wanted to go etc. (much to the amusement of every Twi speaker I met).As with learning most languages, it's one thing to be understood but quite another to understand any reply that comes back at you.Pimsleur will help you to be understood - after that you are on your own.(But, since almost everyone in Ghana speaks good English, they will probably help you out). There is also a very useful booklet that accompanies the tapes which lists every word or phrase used (in English-Twi and Twi-English) and tells you in which lesson it first appears. You are told on the tapes to just listen and repeat what you hear, and only refer to the booklet for the reading exercises. However, sometimes the speakers go fairly quickly and it's a little difficult to pick up what they are saying.I found it easier to look up the phrases in the book as they were being introduced, because seeing the words written down gave me more of an idea of the sounds I should be aiming for.In short, this course is a great place to start if you want to learn a little Twi. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars All-Audio Spanish Basic-Intermediate
Before trying this course, I took the Berlitz introductory course and courses I and II by Pimsleur.I found both the Berlitz and Pimsleur courses better than this one.I agree with all the reviewers who didn't like it.This course is too heavy on discussing grammar and vocabulary and not heavy enough on practicing dialogue. It's easier to learn grammar and vocabulary from books. Audio tapes are more useful for practicing dialogue and pronuncation. The section in each lesson where you are asked to respond is too difficult for a beginner, and at the same time not very useful for an intermediate student, and it's much too short. Now I am trying Pasos 2 which at least has more dialogue to listen to, even though the speakers use slang and are difficult to understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good intermediate step toward learning Spanish
This product is good for someone who has had an introductory course and understands how Spanish verbs are conjugated. It is a little more advanced than beginner's course helped me learn more!

5-0 out of 5 stars I think it's Excellent
Having read the previous reviews of this CD set, I wonder if I'm the only one who has enjoyed it. What excited me most about All-Audio Spanish was when I had listened to all 6 CDs and restarted Disk 1. I had felt a bit frustrated as the CDs progressed, feeling, as some other reviewers apparently have, that it was really fast. But when I started CD 1 again, and was able to speak along fairly well for the first few lessons (there are 35 total), I was really excited. I just completed a 17-hour drive, listening to the CDs the whole way, which was enough time to listen to all CDs twice. While I'm not nearly fluent, I'm amazed at how much of the conversation in the CDs I can actually understand. Particular features I like about the set:Read more

"Wild at Heart" is flawed at heart. It is about the heart of man - not the heart of God.
1-0 out of 5 stars BE CAREFUL OF THIS BOOK
Wild at Heart can captivate your interest and suck you in to believing it's all good.Problem with this book is that it is not sound when it comes to true untwisted scripture.I first loved this book and it began to change me until I researched further only to discover that The Bible has been used incorrectly. If you don't believe me,just punch in Wild at Heart on any search engine and read the complications with these writings. If you are a believer you will see in a very short time what I mean.

5-0 out of 5 stars Plain everyday wanting to write
I'm your plain everyday wanting to be writer. I found, 'On Writing' to be one of the best books I've read. Mr. King writes of his childhood and life in the first part of this book, then in the second half gives advice on how to write, which I have highlighted and marked up something awful. I was one of those teenagers he talks about in his book, that failed English in high school, and thought I was dumb, because of it. I did write as a child, only for myself, not like Mr. King who wrote for Dave's Rag. I loved the parts that spoke of his and his brothers dreams, escapades, or just having fun growing up. It brought back memories of me and my brother. I've read a few books by King, but I find I loved this one the most. I'm one of the older crowd, five years older then Mr. King. I wish he would write more books on plain everyday life, as he lived with his brother and mother, for me and others out there who don't want to read murder, mystery, etc. I'm not saying I didn't like Misery, because I did. I guess now in my elder years I'm just looking for a little less anxiety. I guess I'm what you call "old" and want to think of the world as a loving place and nothing more. I know I'm just dreaming about loving your neighbor, but I "do" believe that people are out there to love one another. I tried my hand at self publishing a book named, "Fears Flutterby", maybe if Mr. King reads this he can give me some tips.
5-0 out of 5 stars As Much of a Writer's Manual as a Riveting Tale Told By a Master Story Teller
I am not sure how I should classify ON WRITING. It is part memoir, part guide or manual, and part autobiography. As a reader, this book entertained me. As a writer, this book empowered me.
5-0 out of 5 stars On Writing, by Stephen King
So you've finally come to it: you wake up in the morning, and decide to heck with this nine to five job, bills, and a squinty-eyed boss that smells like old tobacco - you want something better out of life. You've decided to do what you always wanted to do; become a writer, and create worlds and whole universes for a living.

Editorial Review

A consummate political operative, Ed Rollins has ridden high and ridden low. The political director of Ronald Reagan's White House in 1981, he enjoyed overwhelming success. But the weirdness of the Ross Perot campaign sent him reeling, and his stint running Christine Todd Whitman's gubernatorial campaign resulted in a grand jury investigation. Through it all, Rollins picked up a wealth of juicy and humorous material, which he is willing to share--holding nothing back. He calls Perot a "paranoid lunatic on an ego trip" and Arianna Huffington "ruthless and unscrupulous." An enjoyable and educational book from an outspoken insider who reveals the viciousness of modern politics. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ed Rollins sets the record straight
In Bare Knuckles and Back Rooms: My Life in American Politics, Ed Rollins details his careers as a Political Operative learning the trade from California Democratic Speaker Jess Unruh, his philosophical transformation into a conservative Republican, alignment with the Reagan revolution and his time as a Senior White House Staffer and heavyweight Political Consultant.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Real World
Being a political operative seems like a glamorous profession. While there certainly are perks -- there are an equal number of disadvantages to this career choice.Rollins' depiction of what it's like to be a campaign manager is the truest I've read. It's not always a glamorous lifestyle.Even the best campaigns are full of fast food, headaches and heartaches (now there's a title)! Rollins does a great job of telling "the real" story of being a campaign manager...the good, the bad, and the ugly...

5-0 out of 5 stars ROTFLMAO!!!!
Warning: There's quite a bit of foul language in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Relevant, Insightful, Provocative, Life-Changing. A must-read!
Once again Peck's integrative approach (integrating psychology, spirituality (not dogma), and philosophy with practical experience) has produced a work of profound depth and value. In our times of "global war," the doctor's ideas about community making and peace are a prescription we could all benefit from.
4-0 out of 5 stars Peck Mixes Spirituality with Common Sense
Community isn't what we think it is.Peck does an impeccable job of explaining true community and why it is so elusive in our society.Though he mentions over and over that he is an idealist, Peck presents some very intelligent arguments as to why a community approach just makes sense. He isn't naive either. He says the road to community can be painful and extremely hard.

3-0 out of 5 stars A developmental model psychospirituality
After being catapulted to fame by his first book--the best-selling "The Road Less Travelled" --psychiatrist Morgan Scott Peck follows it up with another one on psychology and spirituality. The chapter that captured my interest without let was the one on his theory of psychospiritual development. He delineates four stages, each representing a more mature level of development than the preceding stage. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A revival of the series!
The previous years of the show has been a little dry. With Blackgaard dead, Jason off doing mission work outside the US, Jack and Johanne happily married, and Eugene and Katrina virtually Ignored, nothing was really happening on the show. Until now :) Kids' Radio is jammed with the singals of a Big Media Giant, someone breaks into Whit's End, a few kids run into a hacker on the Internet, and Jason returns to Odyssey. All of the sudden, things are ALIVE in Odyssey!! The series has abandoned the idea of split-episodes (the contraversial 15 minutes programs of the last few albums) and has started focusing on it's main characters for the last 13 years -- Whit, Tom and Connie. Plus, it's starting to sound fresh again...and few series, Radio-Tv or otherwise, can sound so alive and full of ideas after so long. So, hat's off to the new, Improved Adventures in Odyssey!! Keep it up!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Getting Better
Unlike the current trend of Adventures in Odyssey where the quality of the shows were going down, this album presents a small promise of a return to the normal Adventures in Odyssey writing. With the introduction of a new villian, and the start of some long term arc episodes, The Big Picture hopefully will mark the upswing in Odyssey writing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Comforting Advice from a Wise Friend
I listen to Jan's tapes during my workout.I feel so much comfort and inspiration from her words I don't want to stop pedalling! But I do stop the tape to quickly jot down a thought or two to spark my own writing practice. She reminded me that where would the world be if no one took the time to do their creative work?I'm glad she took the time to do her creatvie work joyfully.I will too. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars no regrets, but far from completely satisfied
Although I have no regrets about using Pimsleur Spanish II, I am not 100% satisfied. After finishing the Pimsleur series I have learned some Spanish but I don't think that I have learned as much Spanish as I thought that I would have learned. As a couple of reviewers already pointed out, Pimsleur does not cover as much Spanish as the FSI Spanish method (but I paid several times more).
3-0 out of 5 stars Bookchip version is better and easier to use,
Bookchip version is better and easier to use, ( 3 bookchips compared to 52 cds) I bought bookchips and cds, send cds back. Buy Bookchip (Audiofy Bookchip) instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars a bit pricey you say?
Other reviewers have already adequately listed the reasons for using the Pimsleur method. I did all three levels of Italian and have a excellent proficiency in the language (especially pronunciation).

4-0 out of 5 stars The Victors
From the very beginning of the book I was enticed.I thought it was very well written and an enjoyable read.It includes stories and things I would have never expected.I thought the relationship between Marshall and Eisenhower was most interesting.I had not learned much about Marshall and Eisenhower's personalities. They were opposites yet worked very well together.Their relationship was based on trust. It is inspirational to hear of all that our soldiers went through during World War II.As someone looking back it helped me to better understand what went on and what the soldiers experienced first hand.I thought "The Victors" was a wonderful book and spanned over a good period of time.I would highly recommend it to others as a World War II informative book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fighting in the cold
This covers the European theater from D day to the end. 2-0 out of 5 stars Sort of a best of Stephen Ambrose
I have read most of the books by Ambrose and the material in The Victors is covered better in his other works. It isn;t bad, but the only reader who might find it interesting is someone who was looking to get into Ambrose's WWII works.Anyone else but the completists will probably not enjoy this book. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Bookchip version is better and easier to use
Bookchip version is better and easier to use, compare 52 cds to 3 bookchips with the same content, I tried both, bookchips worked better for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Program to begin learning Spanish
By the time you're done with this program you'll be able to communicate confidently, but you'll also have only a handful of words at your disposal.
5-0 out of 5 stars It's ridiculous how easy it is.
I need to add something to this review which I wrote about a year and a half ago. Shortly after I wrote this review, I took a trip to Spain. What I learned was that I understood enough not to feel completely confused, but I would be delusional if I felt I could really speak Spanish. Since that time, I've used Rosetta Stone and I read and listen to the radio constantly. Possibly the best move was hiring a good private tutor. There are times when I understand things perfectly and other times when I hear a rocket fire procession of consonents and vowels.
