5-0 out of 5 stars Bringing Spirituality down to Reality
As someone who has always appreciated and been intrigued by the different religions of the world and the similarities between them, I love how this book makes them all relevant to my life & how I live it.One thing that most impresses me about this book is the author's thoroughness and conviction. In The Power of Now, Tolle basically describes the essence of Being - what it is to be in the now, and what it isn't.He successfully does this by addressing the major life forces that affect our ability to be present - the mind, the body, death, time, space, etc. - without straying from the heart of the book. His knowledge, appreciation and respect for so many of the ancient spiritual teachings, from Jesus, the Bible, Zen, Buddhism, Taoism, and more, is enlightening in itself and supports his message very effectively.Although I didn't agree with every concept in the book, I appreciate the thoughtfulness and compassion with which each is presented.Tolle is a true spiritual teacher who has much to offer in the practice of self-discovery.
5-0 out of 5 stars A book I go to when I want to become still.
Previous to the first reading of this book, the principles of present moment living, quieting the mind, and being still to become in touch with my intuition or the wisdom of the universe are some I have practiced, along with others, that have enabled me to experience serenity in my life regardless of the circumstances. Though many of the concepts of this book were not new to me, I find this book very valuable. It further expands the understanding of these concepts and adds its own voice to the discussion of these principles with great clarity. It is a book I have read many times and each time, though I may just read a page or two, it quiets my mind and I feel more peaceful.(In my second reading, it helped me to be more peaceful during a time when the doctors believed my son had an inoperable brain tumor.) I have since moved on to read his next book - A NEW EARTH and I am on my third reading. I highly recommend this one as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read It NOW
Francesco Petrarch wrote, "It is appointed to us to lose the present in expectation of the future," or--he might have added--in fretting over the past. Though Eckhart Tolle's message isn't new--it's at least as ancient as the Hindu and Hebrew scriptures--his presentation speaks directly to the modern mind. We are so bombarded by memories, momentary incoming messages, and fears of the future that we lose the only part of life that truly exists: the present moment. His subtitle says it all: "A guide to spiritual enlightenment." You will feel better immediately when you follow his lead into the now. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Houston televangelist Joel Osteen is well qualified to write this book, having used the seven principles he shares to achieve his own "rags-to-riches" story. At the heart of Osteen’s message is that achieving a successful, prosperous life of fulfillment can only occur when we stop worrying about the past or future to make the most of each present moment by using our God-given strengths and talents to achieve our goals. The key to doing so are the seven steps Osteen outlines: Enlarge Your Vision, Develop a Healthy Self-Image, Discover the Power of Your Thoughts and Words, Let go of the Past, Find Strength Through Adversity, Live to Give, and Choose to Be Happy. Mixing biblical teachings with his own personal experiences, Osteen explains each of these seven steps in an encouraging, optimistic manner that makes them accessible to anyone interested in principles of personal growth. Although written with a Christian slant, the seven steps Osteen shares will have value to anyone wanting to know more about practical steps of self-betterment, regardless of their denomination.--Read more

This is a great book and you can learn so much from it. Mr. Osteen talks about being focused on the future and not staying and dwelling in the past. You can't look ahead if you continue to look behind you.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is right up there
Great books have a ring of truth to them. As you read, you can feel the truth resonating in your soul. Neale does a superb job of letting Spirit flow thru him into our hearts and minds. If you haven't read any of the CWG books, I recommend that you give them a chance. As to which, I have trouble distinguishing. It's like asking me which was my favorite time connecting with someone I love.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most dramatic and significant thing in my life.
I have been on several journies in my lifetime, most of them have been bitter experiences. I have been asking questions about my existence and reasons for being in this universe. I have questioned the authority of thechurch and christianity in my life and the lives of others.5-0 out of 5 stars the book is excellent. Walsch captures the essence of truth
in reading the first book of conversations with God it brought the realization to my inner self that we do have freedom of choice and why would God interfere with that choice. The book was so simple in thewritings and yet right to the point. It reveals all the questions thatpeople do have. It opens up our thoughts to realize that other personsexperiences are given to us and if we do not do it their way than we arewrong. The book was right when it said that there is no right and there isno wrong who are we to judge others. Very good conversation, the truth isthe truth and I am looking forward to reading the other books that havecome out. Someone gave me this book as a gift to me and what a gift it hasbeen. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An entertaining romp through 5000 years of Western Civilization
Jews, God and History is a sobering but very entertaining romp through 5000 years of Western Civilization, which as Dimont so carefully points out, is in many essential respects, the invention of Jews. 5-0 out of 5 stars Simply great
It's hard to believe this was Dimont's first book.As a fan of historical nonfiction, this is one of the best I've read. Its breadth is not limited to the Jewish people but also includes the many cultures into which their story has been incorporated throughout the past- this is one of the most engaging and easily readable works I have come across. It does indeed read more like a detective novel than a historical chronicle, yet it always maintains it's balance and factual integrity. It is about as objective as one can hope to get when it comes to so sweeping and potentially volatile a subject as Jewish history.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good overview of Jewish history for the general reader
This is an outstanding overview of Jewish history for the general reader. It is tremendously rich in information and written with an underlying warmth and sympathy that move the reader greatly. It is a good introduction but should not be the only book the reader reads on the subject. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Different Approach to Relationships
I used to think that if I just found the "perfect" way to do relationships, I would never get hurt or have my heart broken.
5-0 out of 5 stars True Love
C. S. Lewis is a great thinker and whatever he writes, he writes well. This book compares and contrasts the four kinds of love that one can personally experience and personally manifest towards others. It can definitely improve your love life!
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing analysis of loves
I was not especially expecting to be engrossed by a book about four greek words, but I was wrong. This was one of the better books that I have ever read.Lewis overviews each of the four types of love:storge (affection), phileo (friendship), eros (romantic love), and agape (charity or God-love).Each discussion was extremely insightful, especially the friendship one.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE VERY BEST AUDIO KJV BIBLE YOU CAN BUY!
Before I found this, I listened to Stephen Johnston. He is OK, but not expressive. Then I found Alexander Scourby's audio Bible. He reads it with such expression. There is no distracting dramazations or music, just his soothing voice. His reading style and expressions are so moving, you feel like he is sitting there next to you reading God's word! It is such a comfort to listen to Alexander Scourby. I do not listen to the other narrators anymore. And, I highly recommend this to you as the is the very best audio of the Bible that you will find. It is amazing that two people can read the same book and extract dramatically different concepts.
1-0 out of 5 stars Heart of Man- NOT heart of God
"Wild at Heart" is flawed at heart. It is about the heart of man - not the heart of God.
1-0 out of 5 stars BE CAREFUL OF THIS BOOK
Wild at Heart can captivate your interest and suck you in to believing it's all good.Problem with this book is that it is not sound when it comes to true untwisted scripture.I first loved this book and it began to change me until I researched further only to discover that The Bible has been used incorrectly. If you don't believe me,just punch in Wild at Heart on any search engine and read the complications with these writings. If you are a believer you will see in a very short time what I mean.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tune Your Thinking Skills!
In the _Principles of Efficient Thinking_, Barbara Branden delves into the theory and practice of psycho-epistemology (the habits of thinking), including much material that seems to have been neglected in the Objectivist corpus of late. The material is clear and well-supported with examples, although a bit slow for more advanced students. Most intriguing were her discussions of the multiple levels of focus, common errors of reasoning, the requirements of good definition, and the differences between associational and conceptual thinking. Every thinking person should listen to this tape set at least once. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars For Those That Have Ears
Throughout time the Holy Spirit has worked through individuals to bring humanity closer to the divine. Sometimes this work manifests itself in an individual who is capable of doing great things with the blessings that were given them.Rev. O'Donohue is such a man, and yes he is still a priest.Once a priest always a priest. This like all others works John has done provide simple advice on how to build ones understanding of life, self, and the divine.John's approach to teaching is a `Celtic' approach as old as the stones that make up the many walled fields of Ireland. Many listeners will not be used to the rhythms of Celtic life, and thus they will find John's respectful approach to a subject boring. We saw this fact manifest in the previous reviewers comments. The Celtic approach to life is never direct, and always mindful. It is this first lesson that John teaches the listener without ever addressing it directly that is the most important lesson to learn. This is the lesson of mindful patience.Without this basic life skill we can never progress in our relationship with the divine. Once we have learned this lesson, and listen again to John's lecture we will then be able to understand what he is addressing in his lectures. The real blessing is that each book, or more especially taped lecture has layered teachings. These teachings are revealed only through rereading, or listening to his lecture. This type of teaching, and systematic unveiling of teachings is the heart and Soul of the Celtic approach to teaching anything. So in conclusion, if you are looking to hear, and learn the subject material from a true modern day Christian Bard then John's works are for you.If you are looking for a quick secret to life answers in a book in the form of a milk carton advertisement then perhaps a quick read of one of the many Celtic Spiritual web pages is the ticket for you. As for me, I hope you take the time to sit (metaphorically speaking) at the feet of one of the last Cludee'sleft in the world.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great voice, great content
Spoken audio tapes need to be evaluated not only on the merits of the content, but also the quality of the production -- including the "listenability" of the speaker's voice. Fortunately, this collection of meditative reflections on Celtic spirituality by Irish priest John O'Donohue boasts not only sublimie content, but an aurally pleasing experience as well. O'Donohue's voice is easy for Americans to understand, but filled with enough of an Irish accent to evoke the windswept shores of the Emerald Isle in every word he speaks. He speaks slowly, carefully enunciating each word, which contributes to the meditative aura this recording evokes. And of course, what he is saying is as important as how he says it: and what he talks about is the distinctive and vital living tradition of Celtic wisdom, from seeing the human being as "sculpted of clay" to celebrating the inner landscape of the imagination, to seamlessly weaving Christian and Pagan stories and principles together in a way that ultimately breaks down the barriers of religion to leave only the breathtaking unity of deep mysticism. Finally, O'Donohue's insistence on the role of friendship and relationship in the spiritual life -- as embodied in the Gaelic tradition of the anam cara, or soul friend -- makes this truly a relevant treasury of spiritual insight.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth listening to again and again.
O'Donohue is wonderful! The subject matter is not only relevant on a day-to-day basis, but also helps one understand their past and the"inner workings" of other people. His explanation and treatmentof death is both informative and helpful for those of us who have lostsomeone we love dearly. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Okay for what it is, but disappointing nevertheless
Strobel does a good job of presenting the case for Christ. By interviewing various scholars ("expert witnesses"), he builds that case in the same way he would build a legal case to take to court. He anticipates each objection, each piece of countering evidence, that the opposing side might introduce, and he deals with these one by one. So far, so good.
3-0 out of 5 stars Hate to lodge dissent
I hate to be a naysayer but as a former agnostic myself I had heard so much good about this book I was anxious to get my hands on a copy. Perhaps it was the buildup that raised my expectations too high. It is not bad for a book of its kind but nothing different from those who have gone before him down this road of apologetics. Many have disagreed with me on this but I do not think it would work well on the serious agnostic or atheist. Many, I think, would consider it an insult to their intelligence. So from the perspective of this Christian reviewer, you might want to look elsewhere for a book to share with friends. This one is helpful as a faith-booster but not a very good faith-inducer in my opinion; fair but no silver bullet of apologetics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for new Christians and athiests
If you believe in God but have doubts that Jesus existed, this is a good book for you.If you don't believe in God this is a good book for you....if you go into it with an open mind.If you are dead set that God doesn't exist and don't want to find out other wise then don't read this book.I like this book because it gives many different scholar's views on various subjects.

4-0 out of 5 stars hilarious!
this book is written in the form of varies letters written from a evil demon who is advising his nephew on how to be a better and more effectively evil demon,as the nephew is lacking in that department.its very entertaning i think.its done in a playful and interesting way or maybe its just me.read it and see.its not satanic or anything just philosophical satire from my point of view.a good read!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-read classic of the 20th century.
C.S. Lewis is clearly one of the masters of 20th century prose. His theological ideas are very succulent in their purpose and while I may not agree with every doctrinal belief of his, the essence of his message is a very pure one - fulfilment comes only from submitting your will to the Father, through loyal service, dedication, and love (which He very happily returns to you in limitless abounds).
5-0 out of 5 stars Fiendishly funny or frightfully real?
Oh my, what a book this is. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at this book. And yet, at the very least, I now have a better feel for what probably is some evil "goings-ons" in my own life. Evil that is so invisible and subtle that I hardly know it's there. Until it's too late. It seems like no matter what we humans may try to do, satan (what I used to call "the force of evil") always seems to have a trick up his sleeve to throw us off kilter and keep us from cutivating our hearts and souls to become better people. This book is truly C.S. Lewis "unplugged" and full throttle. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the Whole Bible!
The description for this item is a bit deceptive. It IS NOT the whole Bible, it is only the NAB version of the New Testament.I was a bit disappointed as I already have the New Testament on audio.
5-0 out of 5 stars I'm really enjoying this narration!
This is a wonderful narration of the New Testament.I listen to it in my car on the way to and from work, and I really look forward to hearing it.The narrator is not unctious or overbearing, but very expressive and interesting, and extremely easy to understand. And of course, you can't gowrong with the material! The numbering of each Bible chaper is noted, soit would be possible to follow along reading your own Bible.I just wishthe St. Joseph people would come out with a narration of The Old Testament! This is well worth the money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.
4-0 out of 5 stars Needed pictures
This was a great book for a child who knows how to read. It mirrors the adult bible. We were looking for a bible story book for our 3yr old grand-daughter that we could read to her and discuss the actions in the pictures.

5-0 out of 5 stars Portable - the size of a paperback novel.
That's what I like best about this Bible. You can read it easily - it's not too big and heavy, the pages aren't too thin. Plus the cover is very cute and makes it look just like a regular book. NIV means it's been translated into easy-to-understand English. The Book of Revelation is especially easier to read than in other translations. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
This was a good book for me, not great but definately good.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool for deepening the appreciation of life and explaining how to knowand walk with God
This is a great book but should not replace the bible as a being the number one written source to refer to. I do not remember holiness being
5-0 out of 5 stars Good. Helpful.
It's hard for me to understand the extreme reactions to this book. You don't have to agree with everything a book says to get at least some good out of it. I found it to be helpful. It did a good job of making me think about life. Are we just specks floating about on the wind, or are we indeed here for a purpose. The book doesn't delve into theological tedium, thankfully. Mostly, it's just practical stuff. I tell everyone to read a book called The Strongest Defense of Christianity after this one. The Strongest Defense of Christianity seems to be the book of our time in its field. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Ilyanla Live!: Self Value, Self worth & Self Love
I enjoy watching Iyanla on TV, and I have read a couple of her books, this was the first time I purchased one of her tapes and was very disappointed. The sound quality is poor.I found myself turning the volume up and then down, and then at times I couldn't hear anything at all.It started out with singing, which I guess is alright if that is what you had expected, but I didn't see the connection in the overly long singing introduction to the tape subject. She had a few good points that she brought out, and made one think. There were maybe 20 min. of interesting subject matter to listen to: I would not recommend this particular tape.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I am a huge Iyanla fan, but even she has a bad day. This tape was a disappointment, expecially after being fired up with the "Faith" tape. The quality of the sound was not good, her singers were not on their game and the message seemed to come in the last 5 minutes of the tape. You found Iyanla rambling on and on mostly.I will still try the other cassettes but this one, you can pass on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Remember to Love Your Feet
Iyanla takes us on a journey of the past and present on this cd.You willfind yourself in Rhonda ( the story she is telling throughout the lesson). You will step outside of your inner being and take a hard look within.Youwill come to know something that you have learned for years but never paidthat much attention to - "that you are made in the image of God." I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but you will learn to love yourfeet, your face, your private parts etc...Purchase this, and I promiseyou will finish it enlightened. Now hug yourself and tell yourselfRead more
