Awesome Book!!!
I was so moved by this book, this is truly one of the best books I have ever read!!!It was so encouraging to see these women getting through this horrific event by leaning on one another.This truly makes you appreciate your life and thankful for the little things each and everyday.
Inspirational
I was truly moved by this book. I initially wasn't going to purchase it as I thought it might be too depressing. Not at all! What a beautiful testimony to their spouses and to their friendship with each other. Makes you appreciate every girlfriend you have! GREAT BOOK!

Truly Inspired
I was truly inspired by this memoir.These women are solid.I can only hope to be as dignified and sincere as they have have proven to be in their moment of despair. Throughout reading the book I realized I want to and need to appreciate my husband and my life more fully.These women represent love and honor. Their husbands are surely proud of the women they married.I almost do not want to recognize this for fear that some kind of loss or tradgedy will strike me or my family.I cannot help myself.I am moved and must acknowledge it.Please update us to the new chapters in your lives.I will be anxious to hear aboutAnn's (husband Kevin?) and her beautiful kids. One of the important books you'll ever read
The essays in this timely and essential volume are written by a variety of intellectuals from academia, the military, the sciences, and beyond.To read this book is to discover the reality that is kept from consumers of watered-down and even deceptive mainstream news sources (remember WMD?)There is no question that a conspiracy was involved in perpetrating 9/11--the government itself assures us this conspiracy involved 19 young Arab Muslims and a few ringleaders like Osama bin Laden (FBI says no hard evidence to link him, hence no indictment) and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (whose "testimony" was provided to the 9/11 commission by the CIA, and makes up most of the official case for the Muslim/Arab conspiracy theory.)The flimsy official story is contradicted by historical precedent of false-flag terror committed routinely by nations such as the U.S., Italy, and Israel, among others throughoiut history (search for the Lavon Affair, e.g.)This issue, as well as the inexplicable collapse of building number 7 and the twin towers are dealt with by examining facts surrounding the events, not speculation or conjecture.The conclusion that is evidently correct is that elements of the U.S. government with help from the intelligence services of Pakistan, Israel, and others engineered a spectacular attack in order to draw the U.S. into a war our people would otherwise never have supported.This issue is changing the world as I write these words and this book, which I own and will treasure as part of my collection of true 9/11 investigative work along with David Griffin's other books and books like the Terror Timeline by Paul Thompson, is an invaluable introduction to the issues for those just becoming aware of this historic hoax.Because of purposely deceitful "theorists" out there whose aim is to give the truth movement a bad name by for example claiming no planes hit the towers, volumes such as this are key to sorting fact from fiction and beginning on the path of restoring our democracy, exposing corporate media complicity in government corruption, and most importantly effecting a long-needed reconciliation with the Arab and Muslim peoples we have allowed to be unjustly persecuted for these crimes.

This is very interesting stuff folks. You have to actually read it (but first read the offical account and the NIST report and all that good stuff) to come to a conclusion. I own it. Seth is a loser. And you will just have to read it on your own. Later.

A pack of lies
First of all the title is misleading, those people who are involved in this book are not 'intellectuals' in the true senseof the word.Many of the articles deal with conspiracy theories about 9/11 so really its not intelletual since no intellectual can honestly beleive that 9/11 either A) was planned by George Bush and the CIA, B) was planned by the same group that killed JFK, C) didnt actually happen.Once one discards those rantings by lunatics one is left with a book that whines about American "empire" but what exactly is this empire?is it the empie of billions in aid to african countries?is it the empire of the country whose people give the most to phlanthropy?Is it the same empire that is both balmed for helping the Taliban against the Russians and then ignoring them?is it the same empire that is allies with Saudi and Israel?

depressing book
I got this for my dad to read. I talked to him about a month after I gave it to him and he told me that he was only 50% through it. When I asked why, he said he could only read 3-4 pages at a time because it got him so depressed reading about the destrction of our country. I guess that is why 'reality bites.' Most certainly recommend.

Great Wake Up Call
There is no doubt that illegal immigration is destroying this country for a number of reason, not the least of which is the utter refusal of millions of people to bother learning English. But this book focuses on much more than just language and shows us how so much of what is wrong with the country is a direct result of what comes through its borders. These include drugs, diseases and terrorists as well as lifestyles, cultures and mindsets that are antithetical to freedom, capitalism and democracy just to name a few.
If You Love Your Country--Read this Book
I believe that Tom Tancredo is probably only one of a handful of U.S. congressmen left who are truly upholding the U.S. Constitution.In his book, he outlines all of the many threats that are coming at us through our porous borders:Gangs, drugs, lower wages, drain on social services, diseases (such as leprosy) and the degeneration and disintegration of the American culture (especially here in the South--Dixie).The only thing that he leaves out is the advent of the North American Union as the cause for Washington's lack of interest in securing our borders.This could be, because at the time that this book was written, he was not aware of it.I only became aware of the NAU a few months ago.Also, I read a lot of posts on this review board criticizing the fact that Mr. Tancredo used a photograph of a battered, mutilated American flag.I take no offense to this.The picture is merely a representation and symbolic of the way that America's culture, social fabric and heritage is becoming mutilated and battered by illegal hordes.When armies go to war and carry their flags, they often become ripped and battered and even a little burned, but this in no way diminishes their worth or what they stand for.Thank you for reading this review. ... Toffler's Help Make Sense of Our Complex World
Don't you just love it when you find a book out there that just completely blows you away?Me too.I read a lot of business books, and most of them have great things in them, but it's rare that I find one that really turns my thinking upside down.
Future Optimism
This book is a delight to read.Written in an informal, personal style, the authors go over past and current trends and extrapolate the future.It is not an academic textbook by any means; however, we learn that education is a 400 billion dollar a year system and that Helium-3 could be the future of fuel/energy, along with other interesting tidbits.The book is not intended to be anything more than an incredible conversation about what the future may bring. If you are looking for a literary jaunt through technology, politics, economics, and history, you will enjoy this book.Ultimately, the old adage--that "the more things change, the more they remain the same"--may not hold true in the future.

the book has good information and is very throrough, but chapters are wordy and could probably be condensed. overall, the book is of good quality.

Groundbreaking book
This is a truly comprehensive theory textbook that covers complex theories in a manner that makes them accessible to the reader. The authors are to be applauded for making a critical analysis of theory a central component of each chapter and for including theories that most other textbooks have ignored.

Difficult to read
This book is extremely challenging to get through and understand.I was lost a great deal of the time and did not learn what I had hoped.I appreciate the inclusion of the spiritual aspects of theories in the book, but the authors seemed to forget about teaching in an understandable manner. ... Somewhat Unfulfilled Promise
I purchased this book for recreational reading -if that tells you anything about what I consider to be fun - shortly after it was published, expecting to read an insider's account of paramilitary forces in Afghanistan and how they interacted with military Special Operations Forces, and in that Berntsen did not disappoint.This book is a fairly quick read and as a first person accounting it makes for some interesting background and fills in some gaps in my understanding of the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, especially on the political aspects of how the CIA was willing, on one hand, to provide so much autonomy to a field operative, but yet could not seem to engage in a truly cooperative venture between the agency and military SOFs.
You have to read between the lines
The jacket cover for Gary Berntsen's "Jawbreaker" claims this is "The book the CIA doesn't want you to read!" I find that a little hard to believe since the CIA has already apparently had their chance at redacting sensitive information leaving wide swaths of black ink on about 75% of the pages. Sometimes one black line apparently stands for several pages of redaction while at other times a small rectangle of black eliminates a single word that obviously wasn't very important to the story. The book's subtitle is "The attack on Bin Laden and al-Qaeda: a personal account the CIA's key field commander". That's another good hint that the CIA isn't too upset about the book being published. I personally think they rather enjoy seeing a successful book which details a CIA mission that was exciting, action-packed, and 99% successful. Only at the very end of the book do we find that second guessing on the part of the White House or Pentagon may have cost us the opportunity to kill Bin Laden at the end of the Afghan war.
A Sandwich with no Meat
Gary Berntsen's book "Jawbreaker" is interesting reading, but it makes one feel as if one is eating a sandwich with no meat and the sandwich is wrapped with cellophane of red tape.The author was drastically limited in writing a complete story by the CIA censors.The CIA censors "redacted" a great amount of detail.As a result, the book falls into the category of being a summarized report rather than a story.Special Forces, CIA and FBI personnel with their experience in intelligence work would understand "Jawbreaker" better than the common everyday-person.Agency and SF personnel would be able to, imaginarily, fill in the blanks.

Disturbing, eye-opening, but not sold
Ruppert's book pulls a lot of stuff together -- maybe in the end, too much. I was weary of it after 590 pages, and his concluding argument "summation to the jury" was to me the weakest chapter in the book. Perhaps it is just not possible, yet, to boil down Peak Oil, Patriot Act shenanigans, govt complicity in 9-11, PROMIS software and the kitchen sink into a single Theory of Everything. However, the author deserves a high grade for trying and is certainly worth reading.
Superb Detailed Analysis of World Events + 9/11
Crossing the Rubicon was one of the first books I read in this subject area, but I've subsequently realised it is the best. Michael Ruppert was someone I found out about when, like many, I tried finding out about the realities of 9/11 and the politics and manoeuvring behind the scenes. I watched one of his lectures delivered at a University in which he covers, at a high level, all the major topics addressed in Crossing the Rubicon.
Scholarly, brilliant work
Michael Ruppert's book, "Crossing the Rubicon" rips veil after veil away from your eyes. It is well written and well edited, and flows along briskly. I couldn't put it down. His ideas are backed up by hundreds of footnotes, which serve as a springboard for your own research. If you are happy in a make-believe world, don't bother reading this book. If you want to take the "red pill" and see the matrix, buy this book. I am recommending it to every one I can. Entertaining and horrifying at the same time. ... Read more

A Great Bathroom Book
Before I begin, I must state, that I have read this book... unlike many Amazon 'reviewers.'
Though not in complete agreement, I nodded A LOT!
I bought this book after seeing Mr. Goldberg on the Today show.I was not sure what I would think after reading his book and was surprised to find that while reading, I was nodding more than shaking my head.I liked Mr. Goldberg's style of writing - similar to how I reactively think - but I did find him a bit repetitive.He also made a lot of sweeping generalizations that made me roll my eyes and skip ahead a couple paragraphs.
Unenjoyable
This hardcore conservative did not enjoy this book.The book is filled with a wealth of eye-opening information on significant people that I did not know but should (like Hugo Chavez's new best friend, Noam Chomsky), but the reading is so laborious and draining that I cannot recommend it.It has none of the light-hearted fun that we often get from Rush Limbaugh.Rather, it brought to mind the dark experience of listening alone to Michael Savage in a bad mood after dark.The cheeky title is misleading - this was a joyless book to read. ... GREAT STORY!
Enrique has always known life to be absent of his mother's presence. Having left him at just 5 years old, his mother embarks on the dangerous, and sometimes life ending journey, to begin a new life. A journey to the United States of America. Broken promises to return home slip by one after another as Enrique realizes that there is only one way to reach her. Take the journey himself.
About to be HBO TV Series based on Pulitzer newspaper seroes
This is written by a LA TIMES reporter who writes 'projects' -- born in Argentina and raised in Kansas to educated parents, the author is a good point person to look at this subject of illegal immigration and migrant children who risk life and limb to be reunited with their families. It is based on a Pulitzer prize winning newspaper article series...the books get off to a slightly slow start as the author admits to the reader she wasn't sure how to even write the book/series and how much she was going to get involved personally...she ended up actually taking the same route that her focus Enrique (a 17 year old Honduran boy) does in his quest to find his mother in North Carolina who came to the US more than a decade ago as a illegal. The book takes you along the amazing journey on the top of freight cars and trains from Honduras to Mexico to Laredo Texas and Enrique's 8 attempts to get to the USA....What's so surprising is that Enrique is depicted just as he is -- no angel-- a glue sniffing teen who smokes marijuana and isn't an especially hard worker...but who is determined to make it to the USA to see his mother again....the best part of the book is probably when the author talks about her own re-enactment of Enrique's journey and how she traced the facts in the book-- I'm impressed as a journalist with the whole section that answers how does she know what Enrique and others around him, family, friends, girlfriend are telling the truth...how does she know the stats on migrant children who come by theirselves illegally to the USA...She admits there is an O'Henry type ending to the story (spoiler here) -- where Enrique once united with his mother is not HAPPY with the reunion and finds his quest to find out why she left him is futile...not surprising he represents some 30,000 plus kids who face the same situation-- and many of which wish they could live with their parents/moms back in their homeland versus getting the gifts of Barbie Dolls and Starwars characters and clothes their parents sent to them from the US ...it's a constant circle of challenges...and basically involves a sociological shift in our worldwide society where as much as 1/4 of the GNP of some 3rd world countries like Honduras comes from remittances from illegals who live in the USA or immigrants who have obtained citizenship. My concern was that there was little emphasis on getting citizenship legally..there was lots of talk about scams to get relatives over to the USA and about how these migrants live in the USA -- many spending excessively on alcohol or drugs or luxuries--even sending $400 back to their homeland for a kid's birthday...and the beat goes on -- there seems to be no solution to this challenge -- amnesty is what the moms seem to want...but how that will help them with jobs is a big question...since they are uneducated and unskilled in most cases.In fact WEST magazine has a similar story this week...in the LA TIMES....maybe it falls to churches to help solve this-- like in some of the cities in Mexico where they have built migrant housing etc...and classes in how to survive in the USA without getting ripped out...yes, we can say tighten the borders, build the fences but it sounds like they will still come...especially in cities like LA and Miami -- where Hispanics are beginning to outnumber caucasians...maybe a better underground railroad....I'd love to see what the author has to say about potential solutions but that is not this book....eye-opening but warning it may make you angry....I'd love to know where their money is going -- it says that Enrique is spending $600 month for a used truck and insurance in North Carolina...how about an old beat up car...how about a city bus? He pays his mom $200 a week for lunch and dinner when he visits her daily. $200 for a 17 year old boy's lunch and dinner-- 1 person...hmm I spend $50 a week on food MAX....something's wrong here...$800 per month must be enuf to feed a family of 4 comfortably...some stuff just doesn't add up and you want to knock on the author's door and say -- what's up here...so it's VERY FRUSTRATING...

can anything good come out of a fear focus?
My life is no longer run by fear.After reading 20-30 conspirator books, I see nothing but some facts with weak links targeted to intelligent people that become an elitist to fight against other elitists. Look at some of the major failures."Population bomb" predicted 1/2 the world starving to death by 1980.Y2K embarrassment.Rapture, baised on liberal and bad Bible theology.Wise people need to spend their time with real people on local problems that are real and fixable.

Why democracy won't work in Islamic countries
This book gives a concise overview of why the U.S. is currently the target of so much animosity from Islamic terrorist groups and most Middle Eastern/Islamic countries. A previous reviewer said that this book is not for the layman, but I disagree; it is precisely for the layman that Lewis has written this book. If a reader wants more detail, then he knows what to search for once he has read Lewis' book. Even without further research, the reader will have an understanding of the complicated history of the Middle East and the U.S.'s role in that history.
A Must Read for those who wish to Understand the war
Before 9/11, I worked with a couple of Lebanese Engineers.They had both traveled to the United States and decided to stay and raise their families here.In the Spring of one year before 2001, they both decided to pack up their families and move back to Lebanon.I had a long conversation with one of them about the big move to such an "unstable" place.He told me that we were in a war but were too ignorant to realize it.Of course, I laughed...what war?Another person of Middle Eastern descent told me to read something written by Bernard Lewis...his was the most honest depiction of the middle east.I've read Mr. Lewis since then, including "The Crisis of Islam: Holy War and Unholy Terror."A must read for all americans who wish to understand this war we've been in since....2000.

Mostly history, the rest...weak analysis
The Crisis of Islam is presented in such a way that it makes the reader think he or she will be getting in-depth analysis of Islamist terrorism in the post 9/11 world.However, this book is largely a very brief historical crash course most likely intended for those casual observers of international politics.If the book had been presented as a historical book, I most likely would have come away with a more favorable impression, but when you expect one thing and get another, it will affect your perception.

(very) good questions...
Having never really questioned the official account of 9/11 until recently (this fifth anniversary seems to generate a bit more buzz than usual) I was only curious to read what one of the most prominent 9/11 "alternative analysts" had to say. Well, after reading this, I am not sure what to believe anymore, but I sure know what to NOT believe: any single word of the official account.

Griffin takes a very objective stance presenting engaging reasons for demanding further investigation into the 911 tragedies.

Overly Opinionated
I'll admit that the official story of the events on September 11 are suspect. But that's all I will conclude. The way the story unfolds in the media and the explanations for it all appear to be hiding some evidence. Why? I don't know, and frankly, after reading the author's very slanted view of events, am even less interested to find out. I was interested in reading the facts and evidence that exist, but his whole book was one big conspiracy theory strung together by edited quotes and simplified facts. And his summary about not fighting the Axis of Good was just over the top. Maybe the truth would only hurt us more than we know. Call me naive and ignorant, but I would rather live my life with a "half full" mentality. I enjoy my life and the choices I am able to make in America and since I have not the power to change the unfortunate events of Sept 11, I'll continue to live my humble life and not waste any more time worrying, fearing, and doubting the catastrophic events of that day. What will that accomplish? What I will continue to do is pay respect and remember the 2,000+ lives that were lost - people I didn't know - but sons, daughters, wives, husbands, friends, moms, etc.
