5-0 out of 5 stars CAN'T BEAT THIS FOR THE PRICE
I recently purchased the Lean Pocket Guide (published by MCS Media, Inc. i.e., The Lean Store) and found it to be the most book for your money that is on the market. This book set the standard for good, informative information on Lean. The illustrations and explanations were perfect for the folks on the shop floor, as well as my supervisors.
5-0 out of 5 stars What you need on the shop floor:-)
Hello, this little booklet is excellent. You get all information on lean concepts in your palm and right where you need it -not at your desk- but on the shop floor.
5-0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING!
The Lean Pocket Guide isundoubtedly the best value Lean book ever written. All the Lean tools are clearly defined, along with good, simple illustrations. The Key Points at the end of each section provide additional insight into Lean applications. All our employees have one of these. It was very rewarding to see - on the day following giving these to our employees (there was an employee that did not particpate very often in our teams) having The Lean Pocket Guide opened on his bench to the Standard Work chapter.I need say no more! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to read.Easy to understand.Thorough.
I would have given it 5 stars if the price was lower, but that's what you get for text books these days.It was still cheaper than buying it at Berkeley's bookstore.

5-0 out of 5 stars principles ofmicroecon. Sir Mankiw you are brilliant
When i entered college i had no previous background of economics as i was a biology student, the only one in my batch.I was perturbed as to whether i would be able to understand college level eco but i was absolutely overwhelmed after studying this book.Kudos to Mankiw. It is extremely interesting as it is written in the form of a story.Cause of this i love econ...also hope to study under Mankiw later..a true inspiration.I reccomend this book to all econ starters. It is truly essential.

4-0 out of 5 stars Its good
I like it becuase it is easy to use and has a website that goes along with it so that if you buy the book you gain access to the website for more information.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars relative to others
It is not a perfect book, as I don't think there is one yet, but it is very good in explaining things. There are topics missing or that could be explored deeper/better/more accurately. And I also don't completely like the organization, but it is the best for students in general microeconomics course. If you are a business/econ/finance student, there are probably better books (I like hubbard/o'brien and krugman for these cases). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference book!
I've been in the field for a few years now and I finally found a book that explains and summarizes the forecasting theory so good. This is my reference book now.I use it to teach my engineers in the subject and for personal reference as well.It provides new information that wasn't available 10 years ago.The explanaitions are good and the examples clear.

5-0 out of 5 stars DecisionPro Users must have!
Was referred to this book while evaluating several software packages for forecasting and this really helped us make the right decision. We decided on Vanguard Software DecisionPro as it supports all the methods (many of which I had no idea existed) that are outlines in this book. This book (and the software) are great. This is a great add-on for anyone doing forecasting!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book has the formulas.
Chapters 3 and 4, and on covered the vital information that is useful for inventory system forecasting at the SKU level, and for measuring the accuracy of the forecasts. This book was extremely helpful in that regard. Highly recommended. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor
I came across this book after its mention by someone trying to get me into the Amway/Quixtar scheme. Pilzer's books try to financially educate the average person, make him aware that his lifestyle is being leveraged by large corporations for their benefit. Inasmuch, his effort is appreciated.
4-0 out of 5 stars Wellness - Sellness
I am in the planning process of opening a wellness center in a resort area with a physician. I had no idea how BIG this business was. I would say that this book is a primer for further exploration into this field. It has given me a better understanding of how important wellness and anti-aging is over the so-called health care industry. It has given me the incentive to lose about 20 pounds in order to practice what I may be preaching in the near future. Thanks for opening my eyes even more.

5-0 out of 5 stars The wellness revolution
Upon reading this book I become more aware about what I can do to increase my wealth and health as well as help others do the same. Some of the knowledge obtained from this book is disturbing but necessary if we as a race are to evolve and care for each other in a holistic way. Many thought provoking ideas should send your mind on a journey you will not regret. Knowledge truly is power. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely an "Essential" Guide to Learning Economics
This textbook is an excellent book to review the essential concepts of economics. It will give you a solid foundation to do well in your graduate economics course.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
I don't study Economics in college but i have loved this topic since high school. I was looking for a book that enriches my knowledge to Economics without much complexity. This book was exactly like i wanted. It has a very easy approach to many aspects of Economics so that the reader can be comfortable with both easy and advanced topics in microeconomics and macroeconomics.

4-0 out of 5 stars Understandable
I am currently taking and Inro to Economics class. I read this book when ever I get the chance. I never really want to read books that have to do with my classed, but this book i don't mind reading. It's taking me a little while to get through it but I can pretty much understand everything that I am reading. The only thing I don't like about this book is that many of the definitions are worded in complicated ways. But if you read the book it explains in a different way that you can understand. This book also uses real like situations in order for you to understabd it too. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
This guy is boring. Yes, he has some terrific ideas, but he apparently has never heard of editing. We, the general public, do not need to know his every slightest thought and nuance. This is 400+ pages of appendices, notes, tables upon tables.I really DID want to know what the author has to say. But, as another reviewer suggested, read about every fifth page and you'll get the basic information you need. If, Mr. Florida could find a popular book editor, instead of a college textbook editor, he would have a hit and be the darling of every art town wannabe.

1-0 out of 5 stars The creative class does not exist
The creative class does not exist. Since Richard Florida's idea of a creative class is very encompassing, he is just redefining Middle Class Professionals. What he observed and measured are just the changes in values and interests of this growing young middle class. The creative class according to Florida are just people in occupations which require high level of training and education. Many people are in these types of jobs now. They are not the creative class.
1-0 out of 5 stars Book Hound
Author Florida may have set a record for the number of times a nonfiction writer can repeat the same handful of thoughts and still get published. To the prospective reader with an interest in the purported subject, my suggestion is to read any 5 randomly chosen pages of Florida's work, and move on to the next item on your reading list, being assured that most of the material of the remaining 399 pages was, if not exhaustively covered, at least mentioned.

3-0 out of 5 stars Incredible book on useless knowledge
This book will provide you everything you mite need on something useless like Japanese Candlesticks. Nisson can show thousands of examples of how they "predicted" a change in trend but he won't show the other thousand times in which they didn't work. They are too random to be taken seriously. An Eight Ball or throwing darts at the Wall Street Journal can show the same results.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sawyer's Internal Auditing
This book is very useful for people working in internal audit field.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stay away. You'll get more from a "Hardy Boys" book.
One of the worst text books I have ever had to suffer through. The verbage seems to come from some one who would rather be writing bad novels and doesn't want anybody to really understand what's being said.Furthermore, the review questions at the end of each chapter, in many cases, had nothing to do with the chapter they follow or even any information in the book itself on occasion. The remaining questions are written so vaguely you have to spend twice as long searching back through the text as it took to read it in the first place just to find something that resembles what the question is asking. It took me four days to read three chapters and finish the review questions at the end of two and I have no idea if I learned anything because the answer key is no where to be found.I can say this though, it may be vague and useless for a new learner, but at least it's longwinded and tiresome.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing update to a classic book
I am currently using this book to teach a college-level class in internal auditing. I initially chose it over Brink's Modern Internal Auditing (which I thought was very good but which was written at a rather high reading level) because 1) it was newer and less expensive for my students; 2) it purported to cover Sarbanes-Oxley; and 3) the previous edition was very good and I expected the same or better from the new edition.

I read this book for an international studies class, but as an econ minor, i was really dissapointed.the book is targeted towards non-econ majors, i think, but it ended up just confusing most of my friends in the class who had no econ background.however, i did okay, not becuase of this book, but because of my own econ background that allowed me to fill in the gaps and understand the confusing explenations and definitions used in this book.there are better ways to say what gerber tried to say, in my opinion, so i would not recomend this book very highly.although it was decent, it could have been much better. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars This textbook is TERRIBLE!
This book is written in unnecessarily complicated language and does not present information in a way that is easily understood. I teach graduate courses in quantitative methods and I made the mistake of ordering this book for one of my courses without reading it first. It was a disaster!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very interesting for both the general reader and the student
This is a fascinating book, and that is an amazing achievement for a textbook. The approach David Weil takes to this very important subject allows the reader to get involved in the subject, understand why the easy conceptions we have about this subject are indeed too simple and why they are too simple, and develop some intuitions and models with somewhat greater understanding. It is written for a general reader or student with only a very basic understanding of economics (micro and/or macro). Not much math is required to read the chapters (very little, actually), and the discussions with more math are put in appendices for each chapter. So, if you want the math, it is there, but if it scares you - well, you can read the text of the chapter and skip over the appendices.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Accessible!
Professor Weil has provided a very readable text for the senior or graduate student. His organization is excellent, as he steps logically through a description and analysis of the main drivers of economic growth. There is just enough math to display the Cobb-Douglas and Solow models and how they help understand economic growth.Additional appendices with mathematical proofs.Topics covered include physical and human capital formation, productivity, share of a nation's resources devoted to investment, population, technology and institutional elements.A most enjoyable read - I recommend it. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Not substantive enough
I must agree with reviewer Ira Balli from London below. This book lacks substantive information regarding the quantitative methods and therefore is merely an introduction to quant ideas that have been discussed in the marketplace.Of course, anyone who might have proprietary and successful quant methods would be foolhardly to disclose them, so one should not expect that from any public writer.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this book
I am trading since 10 years, lead two hedge funds and I am about to finish my study in Msc of Mathematical trading and Finance.
5-0 out of 5 stars professional
This book is written by a market professional. And it is obvious from the start. There is no hype, and the whole approach is based on maths and probability. The book is concise, and it would be very difficult to make the text shorter than it is.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have for anyone interested on Derivatives
I really must thank John Hull for this book. The way every topic is covered gives you basic knowledge to enter the depths that await you regarding futures, options and other derivatives. The book is so masterfully written that the approach to every topic is very fluid. Once you've covered the book, you are ready to go on with a more complicated book, including Hull's "Options, Futures, and Other Derivatives" which has a more anylitical approach than this introductory book. The examples are the easiest ones and you can understand everything so clearly I wish there were more books like this.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best nontechnical introduction book on Derivtatives
Hull wrote a classic book for the introduction to futures and optionsmarkets. It's for the serious reader who doesn't want to all the deviationsand basics of option pricings. If, after reading this book, you're stillinterested in derivatives you cann proceed with Hull's "Options,Futures, and Other Derivative Securities", Kolb's "Futures,Options, and Swaps", or for the very ambitious student Wilmott's"Derivatives or Quantitative Finance".

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, must have for finance nuts.
The material is similar to his other book, OptionsFutures and OtherDerivatives, but much more easy to read. With Brealy & Myers, thisforms a good complementary text. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars I loved this book at first, but. . .
When I frst read this book several years ago, I loved it.However, I like to go over my library of personal finance books to get a little shot of encouragement when I need it or just for some info I might have forgotten. After going back to this book, I couldn't get through the silly story again. It just did not go down as well on the second helping. The story and the characters get old very fast.Skip this one and buy the automatic millionaire or the total money makeover instead.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good advice is buried in this 1950's Educational Film Strip
My dad gave me this book. I'm young (25) but not a novice when it comes to my finances. Some of the things discussed in here I'm already doing but some of it was new to me. If you can get through the annoying and downright stupid conversations (not one "joke" in here is even close to being funny) between the "barber" and his "pupils" you'll leave with some good information. The "story" is written in the fashion of a 1950's film strip on finance...I felt like it was almost talking down to me in some sections as if I wasn't intelligent enough to understand some of the concepts. Read this book, but also check out Suze Orman..especially if you're in your 20's. (and to the publisher: do you really want a review by Arthur Andersen on the back of the book?)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book...
The wealthy barber is a great little book. It explains investing to the layperson, without fancy language, or needlessly complex concepts. The Barber - told in an series of monthly haircuts to his customers - explains how one should undertake the path to financial freedom, regardless of what their income levels are. There is no real trick here, or advice on what to invest in, rather, just the founding principles one must undertake to learn before they start saving for their families future. For example, Roy, [the Barber] explains how important it is to start investing early, and how compound interest works. Also, how anyone can save a nice little nest egg by putting away just a few dollars off their weekly paycheck.

5-0 out of 5 stars Should be assigned as a text
This is a thoroughly engrossing, still-relevant treatment of the history of oil and its effect on history. Many of the events recounted are familiar from high school and college history courses, but in the typical linear-timeline of such studies, the interconnectedness of oil toward other major historical events is often lost. This book puts all that in perspective, neatly tieing other technological and political events across 150 years to the rise of oil and its use in the internal combustion engine.I strongly agree with an earlier comment on this book, "if you don't know the history of oil, you don't know history."
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Comprehensive
This book will help understand the current geopolitical landscape and the "great" democracies intervention in the middle east.
