5-0 out of 5 stars EC 301 Intermediate Micro
Easy to read, at least more so than accounting. If you can afford it, buy it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unneccessarily Long
This textbook takes microeconomics which can be explained in a technical, exact manner and makes it abstract and foreign.
5-0 out of 5 stars A good book for intermediate level students
Organization of the books is good. Topics are discussed with enough clarity and each topic comes with lots of graphs and illustrations (which I think are a great help at that level). The level of algebra and math is at an intermediate undergraduate level (economics major). I think it is a complete book for anybody who wants to have an understanding of microeconomics. I am a Ph.D. student of economics now and if I am going to teach an undergrad micro course, I will certainly choose this textbook. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good combo
This review is for Principles of Economics (7th Edition).I actually bought this book instead of Principals of Macroeconomics which looks almost the same. After I received it, I realized it was the incorrect book.I went the publisher's website and did some research. This book includes all the information I needed for the Macro class. It also contains the full contents of both the publisher's Macro and Micro books.Turns out this book was a great book to keep for future references.
2-0 out of 5 stars Student's opinion of this book
From a first-time macroeconomic student's point of view, this book sucked. The glossary was very poor making it troublesome to look up unfamiliar terms. Each chapter makes frequent reference to charts and graphs that are located several pages away, causing you to have to shuffle back and forth between pages, trying to decipher difficult new concepts. This book also assumes some prior knowledge of economic concepts, and moves very quickly through progressively more complex material. Thumbs down from a new student's perspective.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for economic students in their first year
This book presents and explains both Micro and Macro Theory in a very friendly way.It explains step by step the functions of the micro and macro theory and describes the fuctions of the instituions andorganizations involve in the economy as a whole. It gives historicalbackground, which many students look for in order to understand how? why?who? the study of economics. Besides it explains really well the economicterminology introduce as you read the book. Finally the book presentscurrent event cases through the chapters which are related it to theideaspresented in the reading. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars hip business economics
This is not your average dry and boring managerial economics book. The writing is great, it covers all the major topics, and there are plenty of real life applications.THIS BOOK ROCKS.
5-0 out of 5 stars A new age economics book
This book is leaps and bounds more impressive than most managerial economics books. The newest concepts in economics like auctions, moral hazard, sophisticated pricing and adverse selection are given full chapter treatments. Not only do the authors clearly explain these concepts, but they show how they are applied in the business world.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wharton Rules
My first reason to buy this book is that i always felt a lack of knoledge in general economics, than you must consider the autors. Its easy to read and interesting. Full of examples and written in a way that teach you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Scary at first, but you'll learn a lot

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good coverage on cross-sectional, but not enough of panel data
This book does an excellent job in covering cross-sectional and microeconometric models (Stata codes for all examples in the book are available from UCLA's webside). However, the exposure to panel data is limited. For a theoretical overview of panel data econometrics, I'd recommend Hsiao and Baltagi. For applied work, Edward Frees wrote a good book, although his book is more from the social science perspective (SAS and Stata codes are provided).

1-0 out of 5 stars The best? Not for me (and everyone I know).
Clearly this product is overrated. In my opinion the book is a complete mess, with definitions, propositions and theorems mixed with the main text and not clearly evidenced from it.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Gem
Wooldridge's "Econometric Analysis of Cross Section and Panel Data" is a gem.As a student of applied microeconomics, I found reading his undergraduate book "Introductory Econometrics" is a great complement of reading this graduate text -- especially part I of the UG book (especially the parts of interaction terms, dummy variables); part III (panel data) might be too chatty.I think both of his books worth every penny that I paid.Although, I think Hayashi text is great, maybe it is geared toward time series econometricians. For example, Wooldridge's example of omitted variable bias is clearer to me (using wage-education regression from labor economics and compute the asymptotic inconsistency of OLS estimator with omitted variable bias), compared to Hayashi's simultaneity bias. Both are nice illustration of endogenity, but I prefer Woolridge's text. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Economics Book
If you are looking for an economics book that isn't going to put you to sleep, this is the one.It is complete yet interesting to read.Yes, I said interesting in the same sentence as economics.Arnold uses many real life examples that the average student can relate to and keeps the math to a minimum (there is an appendix for this stuff).By far the best intro to econ books are by Arnold.

5-0 out of 5 stars extremely happy customer
book arrived in time for my class to start & was in excellent brand-new condition. would purchase from seller again!

5-0 out of 5 stars comprehensive yet easily understood by the novice economist
Roger Arnold makes reading of economics similar to reading a good mystery novel. He provides examples of how economics can be found in unexpected places. The models he uses makes analysis of difficult economic principlesinto an accessable tool that any beginning economic student can use. Alsoincluded in the book are internet addresses for students to further theirknowledge of any topic that interests them. In addition, the book conatinsinformation on how to think like an economist, so that the student canbetter understand the world and the events that occur around them. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book shows how pricing decisions should be made
Exhibit 1-3 on page 9 of this new edition identifies three guiding principles of strategic pricing: (1) it must be value-based, which puts customers' perceptions at the heart of the process; (2) it must be profit-driven, a vital element for any business; and (3) it must be proactive--meaning marketers should not simply react to competitors' pricing moves.
4-0 out of 5 stars The Value-based Pricing Bible...
Nagle's book has become the defacto standard for value-based pricing.Prior to Nagle, value-based pricing was the holy grail of New Product Development.

5-0 out of 5 stars principles ofmicroecon. Sir Mankiw you are brilliant
When i entered college i had no previous background of economics as i was a biology student, the only one in my batch.I was perturbed as to whether i would be able to understand college level eco but i was absolutely overwhelmed after studying this book.Kudos to Mankiw. It is extremely interesting as it is written in the form of a story.Cause of this i love econ...also hope to study under Mankiw later..a true inspiration.I reccomend this book to all econ starters. It is truly essential.

4-0 out of 5 stars Its good
I like it becuase it is easy to use and has a website that goes along with it so that if you buy the book you gain access to the website for more information.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars relative to others
It is not a perfect book, as I don't think there is one yet, but it is very good in explaining things. There are topics missing or that could be explored deeper/better/more accurately. And I also don't completely like the organization, but it is the best for students in general microeconomics course. If you are a business/econ/finance student, there are probably better books (I like hubbard/o'brien and krugman for these cases). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference book!
I've been in the field for a few years now and I finally found a book that explains and summarizes the forecasting theory so good. This is my reference book now.I use it to teach my engineers in the subject and for personal reference as well.It provides new information that wasn't available 10 years ago.The explanaitions are good and the examples clear.

5-0 out of 5 stars DecisionPro Users must have!
Was referred to this book while evaluating several software packages for forecasting and this really helped us make the right decision. We decided on Vanguard Software DecisionPro as it supports all the methods (many of which I had no idea existed) that are outlines in this book. This book (and the software) are great. This is a great add-on for anyone doing forecasting!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
Certainly the most interesting treatment of Microeconomics I've read.Like most American texts, it's about twice as long as it needs to be, but I never felt the urge to give up reading and just skim the pages.

2-0 out of 5 stars OK
I felt that this book did not meet the "hype" that my professor created for this book. Both he and another professor at my school raved about how good it was, although both myself and more thank 12 other students (in a class of about 20) were disappointed.5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for Every MBA
I'm in an executive MBA program and this text was extremely valuable.I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars In-depth coverage of the subject matter.
As an MBA student learning Economics, I found Dr. McKenzie's textbook and video modules to be an outstanding way to learn. The videos allowed me to conveniently review, pause, rewind and re-review specific points. The textbook was also very useful, and complemented the video modules well by providing in-depth coverage of the subject matter.
5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional and recommended
Professor McKenzie's book and lecture turned over a new leaf. His book is effective because he talks about scenarios (economical or non-economical) that the MBA reader can relate to.Who would have thought that microeconomics can be applied to the hiring process of a professor from 6 mile South Carolina to work at La Jolla, CA???? Anyhow, Professor McKenzie's course and text is exceptional and I recommend it to any economics enthusiast, MBA or non-MBA. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A good update but not 100% correct
I teach strategic management to undergraduates at an Australian university and have used the 2nd and 3rd editions of this book in the past three years to supplement the theory from our prescribed texts. It is heavy going in some places for the students but I like the book's rigour. The only criticism I have is that the 4th edition I just received has some minor errors. For example, pages 20-21 in the "Economic Profit versus Acccounting Profit" section has errors in the figures quoted for economic profit for McDonalds and Starbucks. I think this has occured because the 3rd edition figures have been carried over to the 4th edition without a proper proof-reading. Another minor mistake is that Table 10.2 (page 329) should read "Five-Forces Analysis of the Commercial Aciation Industry" and not "Five-Forces Analysis of the Chicago Hospital Market". Sorry to be pedantic but I guess these things can detract from the perceived quality of an otherwise top-quality text. Please note I will be buying your next edition in a couple of years. Cheers from "DownUnder Australia!"

5-0 out of 5 stars great book
Actually, this book is used as a text book in Competitive Strategy courses at U. of Chicago. Kudos to Dr. Besanko for writing such an interesting well-grounded book. Kellogg may not appreciate his writing and use this book and his other book as textbook, however, here at U. of Chicago, we do.
