4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book fora beginer working with young people
1. Easey to follow.
5-0 out of 5 stars 104 Activities that Build Teamwork
I give quarterly supervisor training meetings with about 10 supervisors from our division. I use the activities in this book to help build communications and teamwork with the supervisors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Creative Ideas
I selected this book in order to complete a required communications class assignment that I am presently enrolled in. The title of the book caught my attention. I am an Assessment Coordinator and I work with approximately 10 to 20 individuals at a time with a new group every three weeks. Several of the issues that I need to address that are a major concern with our clients are covered in Alanna Jone's book. These are issues dealing with self-esteem, communication, anger management, self discovery and coping skills. As instructors and parents we often find ourselves in situations where people are resistant to learning. The many reasons for this vary.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst writing I've read in a long time
You decide for yourself what you think about Mortenson.I think the subtitle of the book should be "How One Man Became a Dhimmi."
5-0 out of 5 stars Put so simply...
No doubt this story seemed like an inspiring one. The question for me was, could the writer do a good job conveying it? The answer is- yes!! There are no words to describe how this story made me feel. I was moved to tears more than once. It's about time that we had something to read or listen to that speaks to the humanity of the majority of Muslims. Until now it seemed like we were given no option but to lump them all into the "fanatic" category. There was no one to speak up for the rest of the population. The story of the poor village women of Pakistan giving eggs to Greg to honor 9/11 widows was heart-wrenching. The speech by a supreme Shia ruler to a local village after 9/11 was equally gut-wrenching. Thank you to Greg Mortenson for shining a light on the region. His work building schools by working WITH tribal people of Afghanistan and Pakistan is incredibly brave. The effort taken to learn the local languages and customs is phenomenal. Thank you David Oliver Relin for bringing the story to us and for providing so much background information to help round out the story! This book helped fill so many holes in my understanding of the region. What the heck are the Taliban? Why can't Islamabad just take control of its northern region? What drives many people to choose death via "jihad" over life? I am inspired to read and understand even more about the fascinating people of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
5-0 out of 5 stars Is America more secure than on 9/11?
Besides being an exciting and courageous mission story, Three Cups of Tea is an effective alternative to Bush's so-called "compassionate conservatism" and "war on terror".

5-0 out of 5 stars Psychological Testing: Principles, Applications, and Issues 6th edition CD
This is an excellent CD containing the test bank of test items that accompany Kaplan and Saccuzzo's Psychological Testing: Principles, Applications, and Issues 6th edition for instructors.
5-0 out of 5 stars Psychological testing, principles, applications and issues
I have read many books in the psychology field, and I thought this book did an excellent job of presenting clear and concise information on psychological testing. The book focused on the various testing techniques that are used in the psychology field. It raised important issues aroundhow to appropriately apply testing and why we use them.i recommend thisbook to professionals in the field or to anyine who may have a curiosityabout psychological testing in general. It's a real eye opener!Yourinterest won't fade out. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A 1st Grade Teacher'sOpinion
This book is very useful in setting up my Guided Reading program. It was one of the best books that I purchased for this program. It is geared more toward the actually usage of materials than to simply theory.I needed suggestions for actual activities rather simply theory.I would recommend this book to any teacher that is starting a Guided Reading program.

3-0 out of 5 stars Tough Full Length Tests
I didnt intend to leave a review...I was infact looking for reviews of this because I gave two full-length tests and was surprised at how difficult the questions in both the quantitative and analytical sections were (Actually more surprised about my low scores). The section tests were comparitively easier.
3-0 out of 5 stars A gud book to start with
This book is gud to begin with and also a gud book for a person who wants to get a crash course in GMAT preperations.
1-0 out of 5 stars Kaplan is Horrible!
I got the book.Signed up for the website. Then didn't have time to study for a while because of work. When I finally had time to use the book and study, my internet access (where a lot of important suppliments are) was cut off because it was passed the assumed amount of time.I tried getting it restored, but Kaplan was no help.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
I have always been a fan of atlases and I received this atlas a birthday gift.Absolutely amazing. This atlas has the most comprehensive index I've seen in a world atlas. Also the coverage of the Antarctic continent is very thorough, something that almost all other world atlases lack.5 stars, excellent atlas.

3-0 out of 5 stars A downgrade from previous editions
The Times Atlas made its reputation by being the best atlas in the English Language. In previous editions, its detail and scale was as good as you could get(except for the briefly available and slightly less comprehensive Book of the World from Macmillan). This latest edition may still be better than anything else out there, but I haven't bought it even though I'd like to update.I've looked it over in stores, and the user who noted the reduced scales is right on the mark.I think all of the map scales have been reduced somewhat from earlier editions. He's probably also right about the clarity of the cartography. All in all, I'd say they had poor judgment in downgrading. This was the atlas for people who really knew maps, wanted the best and were willing to pay for it.Now it's a disappointment.

2-0 out of 5 stars going downhill
My old 5th edition (1977) of this atlas sustained some water damage, so I decided to upgrade to the new 11th. My 2 stars are in relationship to a previous 5 stars. Perhaps I would rate it higher if I didn't have an earlier edition to compare it with. It's not all bad: there is a new enlarged view of southern China and Taiwan, a larger map of Korea, a blown-up view of central Japan, a new enlarged view of central Mexico, better coverage of South America, etc. There are several major problem areas, however: a couple of glaring examples: in the older version of central Italy, the scale is 1:1,000,000 and includes a detailed map of Rome which is laid over the sea off the west of the peninsula. In the new version, the scale is only 1:1,250,000 which includes a vast, empty area of the Tyrrhenian Sea taking up about half of the whole map. The map of southern Italy is even worse: it is the same reduced 1:1,250,000 and is about 3/4 empty ocean, whereas the older version has the more detailed 1:1,000,000 scale which also shows more detailed views of Sardinia and Sicily, and much less empty ocean. Greece and its islands also show up smaller in the new version (the page dimensions are the same!). The new version has a 1:3,000,000 map of the whole of Turkey, including generous swaths of the Black Sea and the Mediterranean; the older version had two much more detailed (1:2,000,000) maps of eastern and western Turkey. The scale on the New York/New Jersey map is about the same in both editions; the older has a 1:250,000 scale map of the NYC urban area filling in the large area of ocean s.e. of the city, but in the new version that map is gone, all we have left is the big empty ocean. I'm sure that saved them some money, but not if nobody wants to buy it..... The city maps which were tucked into "low-rent" spaces (empty ocean etc.) in many, many places in the old versions are now all gone. Although the paper-quality is good, and the inking has a crisp, clean look, the topography is not as much fun as before: everything is in a lighter shade (they saved themselves some more money!) and so the distinctions between lowland and mountainous areas are not as clear as before. I was going to donate my older atlas to the department library, but now I'm going to keep it! I feel like the new version is a kind of insult to my intelligence: I don't need to see all of Turkey together to realize it is a single country, what I expect to see in a big, expensive atlas is DETAIL, not cost-cutting. Since this is supposed to be the best, I would be willing to pay even a little more, if I got my money's worth. This time I didn't. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great step by step
I enjoyed this book, especially since I had a non-fluent English speaking professor we all looked into our books and read the complete, easy, and understanding chapters. this is one of the best math books I have ever had in my education experience.

4-0 out of 5 stars Using for a class currently...
I just purchased this book brand newa few months ago.The only problem is very heavy and bulky to carry around.I appreciate Blitzer's no nonsense writing and by the way no highlighting necessary. All the key points are highlighted and pointed out.He also includes in-text exercises as well. I figure the book was worth my money but at least I understand what is printed.I also appreciate the mention of real-life applications indicated in the exercises and the sectional readings.I am not only reading the sections but appreciating all the bonus essays and definition boxes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Multi Media Public Speaking Training
'Audience Centered' seems to be an obvious off-shoot of the teaching styles, that have become hyper-popular over the last decade or two, that claim to be 'Student Centered'. Is it just a buzz word, or is there something in it? As another reviewer points out, Audience Centered public speaking dates back at least as far back as Aristotle.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Sixth and Ever Better Edition
You can't say that the audience-centered concept used in this book was pioneered by them. After all, in the first paragraph the authors give credit to Aristotle for defining the elements of speechmaking as 'of speaker, subject and person addresed - it is the last one, the herer, that determines the speaker's end and object.'
4-0 out of 5 stars Good copy
I know that this is a teacher's edition but I presumed that because it was, it would have come with the DVD which is included in the student's addition. Other wise the book is exactly the same as the student's edition and was sealed as stated. Overall, I am pleased with the transaction. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beyond the Present Tense of Spanish and So Much More
I am not a person that has a natural ability to learn languages. I started learning Spanish eight months ago without any previous experience learning the language. I just used 3 tools that got 4 or 5 stars reviews at a popular learning Spanish product review site. 501 Spanish verbs is one of the products. The second product was the Learning Spanish Like Crazy self-study course. And the third was a Spanish word or phrase book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Verbs rule!
We all know a million Spanish words. But if you can't conjugate a verb, you can't talk. I know tons of Spanish but I wasn't able to communicate well until I picked up this essential text. If there is one book for learning Spanish that you need, this is it. Verbs are the absolute core of the language, and since Spanish has no declensions as in Russian or German, you are going to learn the language a lot faster if you refer often to this reference. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars FUN
I have just completed all three levels of the Pimsleur course and for me it was fun and I learned alot of Spanish. I think one of the main things when you are trying to learn a language is that whatever learning method you chose doesn't discourage you and the Pimsleur course kept my interest and made it fun and easy enough so that I continued and progressed. What good is a course if you become so discouraged, bored, or iritated with it that you give up? Most of the others are like that. I have listened to other CD series and in my opinion, Pimlseur is the best. The others invariably talk too fast, use words and phrases they haven't previously introduced, or just end up being a string of phrases or vocabulary with no context or story-line. I heartily recommend Pimsleur I,II, and III.

I happened to find this book while browsing the teaching section. It has truly been a great resource that every (new) teacher should have.Unlike most of our teacher ed. programs, this book gives practical information about how to run a classroom. You won't regret buying this book, it is a wonderful resource!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great resource for any teacher!
My school district gave every new teacher a copy of this book. The new teacher that I am mentoring shared it with me.After reading through it I was excited to find a book that focuses on instruction instead of some silver-bullet discipline plan. The instructional strategies are written clearly and consisely. Both of us bring our copies of Why Didn't I Learn This in College? and use them as we plan our units and lessons every Monday for the following week.I highly recommend this book to any teacher.

I've had the new atlas for 60 days and find myself looking something up every 2-3 days. It's really been fun looking up remote places like Palmyra Atoll, Kerguelen Island, the Fly River and other obscure places I read about.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Foundational Book!
I really like the way this book is presented. It provides a really concise yet complete overview of the disabilities most commonly encountered.I also like the pages in the back of each chapter that give teaching strategies in respect to the disability discussed. This is a great book for general educators looking for some information on disabilities and for those beginning to learn about special education. This book gives a great foundation for all the other special education courses that follow it.Great book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Professional Learning Communities at Work (Best Practices for Enhancing Student Achievement)
Professional Learning Communities at Work (Best Practices for Enhancing Student Achievement) by Dr. Richard Dufour and Dr. Robert Eaker, is a well-written/user-friendly piece of literature. This book may be useful as a text for graduate and/or post-graduate level students who are studying and/or working within the area of education, administration, and/or curriculum and instruction. It is also an excellent resource to have if you are dealing with staff and/or curriculum development. The basic premise of the book goes about showing how (via PLC's (Professional Learning Communities)/Small Learning Communities) school staff and administration can work collaboratively to help change, redefine, and/or shape their school's mission and goals.Through this teaming process and through the steps/best practices the authors suggest; school improvement, cultural change, and positive curriculum development and implementation can more likely be achieved.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst installation process
I have never had a problem installing a program on my Dell Inspiron 9300. That is until I put this program in the drive. Though this laptop far exceeds all requirements and having followed the installation process exactly the program will not open once fully installed and restarted. I have installed and uninstalled it several times. I have closed out of any running programs, turned off virus protection, said several prayers in seven different religions--to no avail. I'm attempting to get a refund from Amazon over this. What a waste of time.

5-0 out of 5 stars What I Discovered About Successful Student Discovery
This book must not be passed up by parents of students who enter classrooms and are already equipped with sufficient sensitivity, ability, motivation and innate self esteem to love learning and be successful without being discovered. I recommend it so that you may all cheerfully weather the process. Then pass the book on to your kids, parents. It is a must read for all of you.It would be an excellent required text for elementary students who are gifted in sensitivity, ability, motivation and/or innate self esteem or need for same.Ask them to examine and evaluate prize-winning teacher metacognition so as to better appreciate it and/or possibly get a leg up on it for their own present and future leadership development and advancement.Cut to the chase and involve students right up front in the shaping of the shaping of their shaping, so to speak. It is a fascinating study of the uses of power For Their Own Good and Our Own Professional Success.Every teacher and trainer of teachers should read this book in the highly likely event that their own future leadership development and advancement will be similarly shaped.Heads up!What's good for the goslings is surely good for the geese!Read it to your students and cut right to the social skills chase, why not, and stimulate some lively discussions about the meaning of success from a variety of viewpoints as well. There's plenty for plenty of people to think about in this book.
1-0 out of 5 stars Well-marketed fluff
The problem with American education today is not that we don't have enough teachers like Ron Clark. The problem is that teachers like Ron Clark are being presented as models of good teaching. As the posted customer reviews reveal, more and more teachers are emulating this model, and our national educational system continues its steady decline. What is this model?Clark's students have fun. They really like him. He's making "connections" with them, by taking them to basketball games, baking them cookies, playing with them during recess, and otherwise entertaining them.Sure, they're engaged in the classroom, but to what? That his lessons consist of a whim isn't important, because he puts on a darn good show. His audience - and that's what his students become - predictably comes to enjoy school. Thus he has fewer discipline problems, but probably not because of the rules he's selling here.(Aren't most kids well behaved when they're being entertained?)Some learning occurs, too, but unfortunately one of the greatest lessons his students must receive is that every gain in life ought to be loads of fun and every reward ought to immediate and tangible. For all his efforts to instill discipline, his students can't possibly have learned self-motivation.Whatever ability they have in the future to meet a challenge that involves real work and pays only in personal satisfaction will not have come from his instruction.Yes, his is an inspiring (and let's be honest, politically correct) story, and by all accounts he is a dynamic public speaker - perhaps the two essential elements in becoming Disney's Teacher of the Year. But what we have here is the same "style over substance" formula that has been ruining our nation's schools for some time. ... Editorial Review

Composition teachers throughout the English-speaking world have been pushing this book on their students since it was first published in 1957.Co-author White later revised it, and it remains the most compact and lucid handbook we have for matters of basic principles of composition, grammar, word usage and misusage, and writing style. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Do You Dread Looking Things Up?
The Elements of Style makes grammatical research so easy, you'll want to look up things you'd always wondered about but thought would take too much time. Recently someone asked me about the use of the serial comma, and, as it was about text we were going to put on the dust jacket of a book, it was sufficiently important to look up. It turned out to be the second item in the Table of Contents. First you get the general rule, in this case "In a series of three or more terms with a single conjunction, use a comma after each term except the last." The example given is "gold, silver, or copper." The sole exception is a series of names in a business: "Brown, Shipley and Co." There! With thirty seconds effort, the issue was adjudicated. I can't recommend it highly enough. Thank God for the Fourth Edition. My Third Edition is dog-eared with use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Important Reading
This little book is important reading for any one who has or is desiring to write. One of the best things that I could say about the book is that it is full of examples that are juxtaposed. Every element is clearly defined in such a way that any one can easily see the difference between the examples given. This book is a "how to" book for proper use of english in written form. It seemingly covers everything you could imagine from the use of commas and omiting needless words to expressing yourself clearly and not overwriting. The five chapters are: 1. Elementary Rules of Usage 2. Elementary Principles of Composition 3. A Few Matters of Form 4. Words and Expressions Commonly Misused 5. An Approach to Style.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Indispensable!
Anyone doing any writing, regardless of the purpose, must have a copy of this handy little reference book right next to their dictionary and thesaurus. "Elements of Style" is an indispensable little guide full of superb tips for the correct use of the English language. ... Read more
