4-0 out of 5 stars Reply To Tom Markus
He said, "Let faith be your guide and never deny the Word of God that specifically calls for us to reject the San Fancisco values of Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat Party."
5-0 out of 5 stars Well said
I felt better about the Republican party - hopeful there can be change within it, a way to get out of the current disappointing party it has become. This book was thoughtful, and personally helpful to me, in a worldly and a spiritual way. Its a great read, and I felt the better for having experienced it.

5-0 out of 5 stars another conservative shows thatBush is not conservative
Sullivan does excellent work in showing how far from traditional conservatism George W. Bush is with his emphasis on heavy government spending without commensurate taxation, his unconscionable expansion of executive power at the expense of other branches of government and against the U.S. Constitution, as well as his putting religious ideas, themselves without rational basis, in the place of reasonable, skeptical inquiry. The only fault of the book is that it makes Reagan a more competent president than in fact he was:Reagan's fiscal profligacy in expanding defense spending while cutting taxes doubled the national debt in the eight years of his administration.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun to read, not too indepth, but Stossell entertains for sure!
John Stossel's Myths, Lies and Downright Stupidity is a great book in which the 20/20 anchor tackles myths that prevail in society and are often taken as fact and refutes all of them with facts of his own.The chapters are broken down into myths about health, medicine, government, relationships, business, etc. These myths aren't just those such as you shouldn't swim after you eat (although that is in there.)Stossel tackles myths that cost money and lives and have been around so long they have been accepted as truth. For example, malaria, a desease that takes thousans of lives in Africa, could be easily combated with the Pesticide DDT.DDT was banned many years ago because fraudulent data reported it as cancerous.Food could be much healthier if it was treated with radiation, but radiation sounds bad so minority special interest groups have fought to have it banned.
5-0 out of 5 stars Forget much of what you think is true!
John Stossel's first book, GIVE ME A BREAK,got me thinking about
3-0 out of 5 stars Clear, excellent example of bias
I love this book.I teach a class that includes a component on critical thinking, and I've had trouble finding clear examples of authors who are able to all of the following in one argument: (a) use bias in choosing the facts they present, (b) mischaracterize the meanings of these facts, (c) mischaracterize counter arguments, AND (d) reason incorrectly about what their already selective premises. But now I've found plenty of examples here.

5-0 out of 5 stars IS VOTE FRAUD JUST A HARMLESS PRANK ?
NO CONSENSUS EXISTS ABOUT THE PERVASIVENESS OF CONTEMPORARY VOTE FRAUD or the frequency with which elections are stolen.A recent bipartisan report (U.S. Election Assistance Commission, May 17, 2006)tends to minimize the phenomenon ofvote tampering as insignificant or unsubstantiated.Consequently, the message seems to be that we should forget about it and roll our eyes when cranky complainers continue to harp about vote theft.
3-0 out of 5 stars Socialism has never worked...
This book was at my local library so I decided to read it because it has received such great reviews that say like yeah that is right Bush lied, people died. First off this book was highly entertaining. Mr. Palast writes in a sarcastic tone that the reader must adjust to. The beginning of the book was really easy to read. He does not blame Bush so much as he does the Saudis. The Saudis really run our country with Bush as their puppet. Palast never accounts for the poor intelligence that the U.S had in Iraq before the war. Palast does not understand that part. I did not agree with Palast blasting Thomas Friedman as the worst thing since Bush. I respect Friedman and the work that he has done.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Title
A great well exposed piece of research. The abuse and lies of the US Gov't under George W. Bush andhis cronies is beyond comprehension. This book clearly identifies what a inside out, upside down world we suffer under today. This is a must have investigation that should be in every library- personal and public. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Barry AuH2O political perspectives
While written over four decades ago, this book is still topical today, and not surprisingly so. For anyone interested in politics, it is a necessary read. In all honesty, any liberal should read this book to get an understanding of the conservative mindset. While, I, as a conservative, disagree on a few points with Goldwater, I still found the book enlightening and a worthwhile read. It strenghtened my own arguments and my own conservatism. The same will be the case for a liberal who reads this book. It's true what they say: keep your friends close and your enemies closer. If you are in any way interested in politics, you owe to yourself to give this book a read.
5-0 out of 5 stars Bedrock of Conservative Government
At just over 100 pages, this brisk handbook for Conservative political thought impressed me by its constant recourse to the sanctity of the US Constitution, and by its thorough enumeration of the ways in which the federal government has trespassed into areas forbidden it by that same founding document. It is clear that these repeated violations of the Constitution, carried out by both Democrats and Republicans (as Goldwater assiduously points out), have spoiled the Senator's good mood.Yet Goldwater has written here a gentleman's treatise. There is no partisan venom, just good, clean, political argumentation from a man who feared, in 1960, that decades of growth in federal power had taken the nation down the wrong path in several areas of public policy, and that this same growth in government was already strangulating individual freedom and sapping the souls of those dependent on government welfare.

1-0 out of 5 stars can anything good come out of a fear focus?
My life is no longer run by fear. After reading 20-30 conspirator books, I see nothing but some facts with weak links targeted to intelligent people that become an elitist to fight against other elitists. Look at some of the major failures."Population bomb" predicted 1/2 the world starving to death by 1980.Y2K embarrassment.Rapture, baised on liberal and bad Bible theology.Wise people need to spend their time with real people on local problems that are real and fixable.

4-0 out of 5 stars Introduction to the Truth
This book will give you a great introduction to what is going on in our world, based on several past written books about the "Powers that Be."
1-0 out of 5 stars Search for the Guilty
Jones belongs to that school of thought that believes behind every failure of a system, or every historical cycle, there lies a guilty party. This search for conspirators is the sort of thing that generally leads to pogroms and inquisitions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good theory, easy to read
Kingdon has produced an innovative and useful theory of the policy process. This book is clearly not intended for the lay reader, butfor political scientists and policy specialists interested in theorizing about policy formation.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great, just a little expensive
John Kingdon attempts to answer very difficult questions in his work "Agendas, Alternatives, and Public Policies."What makes an idea's time come? What makes people in and around government attend to some subjects and not to others? In short, Kingdon explores how ideas become policy in his 1994 award-winning book.5-0 out of 5 stars Was Not Riviting but the Theory Is Good
I am in the graduate program at American University's School of Public Affairs. This book was required for one of the core classes. The theory--the dynamic, fluid model that Kingdon builds in this book has been practically adopted as THE mantra within policy formation/agenda setting research. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, vital book
I first saw the accusations in the book on a half finished Yorkshire television documentary that never made it to television. The allegations were so horrific in the film; it near enough reduced me to tears. So shocked at the material in the film I had to read the book. Sadly the book documents episodes that are far more disheartening than the film did.
5-0 out of 5 stars Corruption In High Places
Lawyer and former state senator John Decamp's book can't be easily dismissed as a wild conspiracy theory, given all the evidence presented in the book and the solid reputation of many who believe in the crimes and the cover-up. One victim of abuse comments that this corruption must stop because next time it could be your kid. Not for the faint of heart, the book covers many grisly details of satanic ritual murder and torture of children by prominent members of society and a subsequent cover-up orchestrated by law enforcement and the press. I believe the problem will grow worse if you let people who are supposedly here to protect us and keep us informed abuse their positions of privilege, trust, and authority for their own gain or security. We might have to start limiting the amassing of great wealth and power because people who get a great amount of wealth and power think that they can get away with anything. And so far, they have.

4-0 out of 5 stars A fascinating look at the Governator
This book is a fascinating look at a different type of politician.Far from being simply a movie star now "playing" Governor, Mathews' book demonstrates that Schwarzenegger gets involved in the details of public policy to an extent much greater than one would expect. It also is apparent that Schwarzenneger is actually interested in trying to solve some of the state's long term problems, rather than simply staking out positions for political advantage. This book is a must read for anyone who wants to understand recent California political history (assuming it can be understood!)

5-0 out of 5 stars The Governator: a fair and balanced look
I won't spend a lot of space going over the same ground as the two capsule reviews, but suffice to say that Los Angeles Times writer Joe Mathews has done an extraordinary job examining Schwarzenegger and how he came to be governor of California, in terms of both the man's strengths and weaknesses. While making the typical mistakes one expects of someone "new" to California politics (though he met Howard Jarvis and closely followed the machinations involved with Prop 13 many years earlier in the late 1970s), Schwarzenegger comes off smarter than one might expect.

Good job getting merchandise to me in great condition.Would buy again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Neither for dummies, nor comprehensive on the politics
Having only read the first few chapters, I was somewhat hesitant to submit a review for this book. Ultimately I decided that, notwithstanding, I had some worthwhile comments to put forward which may be of use to other potential readers.
4-0 out of 5 stars Slightly flawed, but a good place to start
I would simply like to state that the premise of lower-class whites primarily voting as democrats is way off base. The fact is, white males with a high school diploma or less vote republican, college grads generally vote democrat, and anything above that is generally split.Typically those in the lower class have either a high school diploma or less and thus vote republican.Trust me, I do this for a living. While this book is lightly flawed in some areas and does leave some critical areas untouched, I feel that it is a great primer. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Keep an open mind, America!
Parenti's work, including this one, are indeed controversial...but that's exactly what I love about Parenti...his work provokes critical thinking on the reader's part...he offers an different view in viewing our political, societal system and history...and no, it's not poorly researched like some of these reviewers has claimed(please look at the history events and news from not just CNN)...and yes, it's opinionated, just as often times different history books all written in their own little biased views...therefore I encourage every reader to read this book, because of the angel that it offers...I think it's a great book that can shatter some people's realty in America, and creat many new critical thinkers of our time!

I had to read this book as a freshman in college in 1985 (it's since been updated). The professor offered an A to anyone who read it five times--so I did! As a result, I was stunted intellectually for several years, before I finally learned about some basic economic fallacies.
5-0 out of 5 stars A note on scholarly writing
I am surprised at the lack of refutation of Mr. Sanchez's Oct. 30, 1998, comment to the effect that citation of one's own prior works is a sign of poor academic work.(One reviewer, OT "delirium_tremens", did an excellent job refuting many specious criticisms, but confessed he was not comfortable with the practice of citing one's own past work.)I would like to clear up this one point.

3-0 out of 5 stars some good history
For those who have seen Albany in action, some of the information in Lachman's book will not surprise you.Lachman provides some good history, but I am not sure it is from a true "insider's" point of view.In the first pages of the book, for instance, Lachman lists all those who disagree with the book. The list is long and includes some true insiders.

3-0 out of 5 stars It was very good, but is not current
This one was a great reference up to 10 September 2001.Then everything changed and much of what is in this book is out of date.To be fair though, there is stll considerable value here, but that value puts it into the 'buy a used one' category (but hey, that slightly dog-eared, somewhat out of date, reference work on the shelf behind your desk gives you that 'old hand' 'been there, done that' credibility, so this isn't all bad.)
5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Reference
I met Richelson years ago and was amazed at his comprehensive knowledge of the intelligence community. For anyone who needs a reference guide to the organizational structure as well as the operations of the intelligence community, this is the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference of the US Intelligence community.
Richelson does an excellent job of providing a link and detail to all of the U.S. intelligence successes and failures over the last 35 years. This is a superb reference book for the young and old intelligence officer in aJoint or Interagency environment that needs to know how the intelligencesystemin the United States works.Richelson does not write in theory. All of this book is practical, useful and hard-hitting.It will give youexcellent depth and insight into those often heard but little knownintelligence successes and debacles. From the USS Pueblo to the origin andcurrent status of satellite intelligence, this book covers it all. ...
