A Must Read For True Entrepreneurs
Michael Lechter's book "OPM" Other People's Money is one of the finest books written for creating financial leverage. The information teaches anyone how they can take an idea and truly turn it into a significant financial gain without risking their own capital.
OPM
Only 1/2 way thru, however, an old dog can learn new tricks. I've been a real estate investor for 17 years. If I had this book 17 years ago, I would probably have 40 properties today instead of 20. EZ read and full of very useful information.

Getting Notary Signature
My husband & I bought this product after reading the reviews on Amazon, so we thought it would be OK for residents of New York state. However, before you buy it, you should check with the laws of the state you live in, because in New York state, it is now our understanding that a Notary cannot sign & witness a Will. We completed the information on the Will. We had to cut & paste a part of it, because it left out information on my husband's Will. My Will printed all OK, but his had empty spaces no matter how many times we tried to print it. After the final paste, we went to find a Notary. We went to banks, and to the town hall, and everywhere we were told none of the Notaries would sign for a Will. One Notary told us she'd lose her license if she did. Finally we checked on line at New York laws, and based on the information there, we now have an appointment with a lawyer to make our Wills. So for us, we couldn't find any Notary to notarize our Wills.

Law and Ehtics in the Business Environment
I would have to compliment the teacher that picks this book for their course. The book is interesting and easy to read. The fact that most of the cases are from real life situations makes the reading more interesting and easy to follow! Great book.

Review on Children with Disabilities

This reference book covers developmental, clinical, educational, family, and intervention issues of concern to teachers working with children with disabilities. Written by doctors, it thoroughly explores issues than impact child development starting from conception through adulthood. Factors that can cause disabilities, current methods of treatment, commonly used medications, and guidelines for intervention are addressed. Solid Introductory Book
Batshaw's Children with Disabilities is a "must have" book for anyone who works with children with disabilities...almost.Written by doctors for those in the medical professional most of the recommendedinterventions come from a decidedly medical model.It is, on the otherhand, fairly comprehensive with sections dealing with genetics,development, developmental disabilities, and interventions with the bulk ofthe book dealing with specific disabilities from the obscure (Fragile XSyndrome) to the more common (AD/HD).I have not found Appendix A or Bparticularly useful (Glossary and Syndromes of Inborn Errors of Metabolism)but turn to Appendix C and D frequently (Commonly Used Medication andResources for Children with Disabilities) Finally, while the book offers anice mix of theory and application, I would like to see (maybe in a 5thEdition?) the incorporation of some of the so-called "new brainresearch."Nevertheless, I still turn to this book several times eachmonth. ... Leadership, charisma and iron will.
As King's star rises, Green's book opens up wide to the national and world stage. Cannaan transitions from an essential biography of King to a complex social and historical account of America in the mid 60's. By the late 60's, race was a hot button that super charged the fabric of all things American. One scholar pointedly stated, "if you want to look at the motivations behind all historic American politics and policies -- follow the race card." Cannan's follows the call for racial justice as it moves north and the long sharp lens of Green focuses on the race riots in LA, Queens, Detroit and Chicago. Each chapter is a fascinating look at people vs. political power and the passionate personalities that sparked bloody confrontations. Adding complexity to the issues of the day, Green correctly weaves in our last and fatal commitments in Vietnam and the political pressure that was brought to bare on the opposite side of the Johnson house, literally squeezing the administration between two crisises. In many ways, the three book series is a apt study in modern man's stubborn nature to selfishly preserve their own tribe over all others -- blood lust and all. Somewhere in this series an astute observer comments, "racial prejudice, drawn to it's natural conclusion, is the practice of genocide, plain and simple." Man killing man. Of course Canaan does not end on that morbid conclusion. It ends optimistically, depicting King as the first modern American to preach, practice and deliver radical social change through peaceful mass demonstration. In his fine, broad wake peaceful demonstrations have prevailed and will again and again... thanks in large part to leadership, charisma and iron will. 9/11/06

A (slightly) flawed conclusion to a great story
This is the third volume of an epic history of King, the Civil Rights movement and America during a pivotal moment.
Heartbreaking Story, of our Divisive Racial History
Taylor Branch continues to be the best source for our troubled racial history. We've developed a mythology of the movement, that it was heroic, which it was, but that's an incomplete picture. This should be read by every American. Especially those right wing conservatives who seem to forget how recent we were bombing churches in this Country. It was just yesterday that people went to jail (Parchman prison even in Ms) for voter registration activities. Mr. Branch also shows the seems that begin to wear, how Dr. King became reviled by the Radicals because his devotion to non-violence brought him to oppose the War in Vietnam and brought condescension from the Black Power advocates like Stokely Carmichael and H. Rap Brown, who began to (understandably) promote a violent response to the violence which the SNVCC had suffered for years. This is an important book. ... Read more

Mediocre LSAT Study Aid
This book could be a lot stronger.The answers are not visually appealing, the games are laid out in ridiculous ways, there are numerous typos, the authors resort to explanations that amount to "just because", and I have found reasoning flaws in some of their explanations of why an answer is correct.
good for arguments and reading, but not necessarily games
This book is pretty helpful in terms of discovering what you did wrong - unless it's in the games section. The diagrams that this book creates are unrealistic in my opinion because they take up too much space and also they are difficult to follow.They look like something done in a word processor, so they aren't aesthetically pleasing, but also, more importantly, they're not great at organizing lots of information.There are crazy lines and arrows all over the place that are supposed to show flow of logic, but I don't see it.There are just too many and it's difficult to discertain which arrow came first.
Be Careful Assuming It Actually Has All the "Answers"
Because there aren't comparable books out there with explanations for every test question in every released LSAT Preptest included in "10 More Actual, Official LSAT Preptests," I would still consider buying this book for lack of a better option.However, calling the explanations "Unsurpassed" is reaching quite a bit.

not worth it
There are many better books out there that are easier to follow and comprehend if you are not a law student.Not impressive.

For the benefit of all the people who cannot take her course, Prof. Connie Bagley has written this book that has the same title as her course (sheteaches a quarter each at the Stanford and Harvard Business Schools). It isan extremely very well thought out and well written book. Throughout thebook Prof. Bagley has kept in mind the reader's background and organizedand written content in a way that will be of maximum benefit to thereader. This book is amongst others used at the Stanford MBA course as an introduction to legal issues that may arise for managers in a variety of business situations. It is comprehensive and is well illustrated withlandmark case studies and relevant hypotheticals. Not for the solo lawyer; not about marketing, except for the author
I was disappointed by this book.I am a solo litigation attorney, and I read the book to get ideas on marketing.It gave me some ideas.Perhaps the most valuable idea was to focus more on customer service; Dahut has an interesting discussion about exactly what that means and how we can do it better.By and large, however, this is a book by and for big firm attorneys.It is about big firm angst and how it can be combated by hiring experts such as Dahut to do extensive consulting work for your firm.Dahut does not acknowledge, and does not care, that most attorneys are solos or work in small firms, and that we have very different issues than agonizing over whether we have lost our soul by conforming to much to dead firm culture.

Strong ideas - useful and inspiring
This work is really true to its theme - it offers new perspectives on how to see business development and because of this new perspective, it makes the process very managable. I stongly recommend this book to anyone who is really serious about growing their practice.

I guess if your class requires it, you have to get it.
I find it hard to believe this book was edited before it was sent to the publisher.For a college text book, there are multiple mistakes. It refers to modern day Native Americans as Indians. The pictures are something to be laughed at. There are pictures showing officers standing around with their hands in their pockets, male suspects laughing as they are being searched by female officers; the cover has an officer appearing to be using "community policing" while sitting on the back of his patrol car. I have yet to run into a department where that is exceptable.There are many more law enforcment books out there with more information, that is better put togeather, and not such a bore to read. But, I guess if your class calls for this book, you have no choice. ... Read more

Russian Muckraking
This is a hard book to judge. In the first place, it's a collection of articles for what the author refers to as a newspaper, though the "New Gazette" appears to publish biweekly. This leads to some jarring articles next to one another: the first article denounces officials involved in the identification of the corpses of Russian soldiers killed in the first Chechen War 1994-6, and the second article, immediately following, denounces the first one as biased and reverses all of its statements. It's a bit strange.
Good overview
I have to disagree to some degree with those who say this is a *completely* biased piece.I also have suspicions that those who trash this work have not read it in it's entirety, if at all.Anna is certainly an advocate for the Chechen people, but she also attempts to show, albeit in small bits, the human side of Russian troops.Her writing is vivid, impassioned, but sometimes choppy.It can be difficult to read sometimes, but that may be the translation.I'm not sure how the September 11th attacks should obscure any opinions in favor of Chechen independence.Those views expressed appear to be shallow, with a blind, "follow the leader" approach.This shouldn't be an issue where you chant, "go team!"--Why not consider both sides?If you go to www.hrw.org there are plenty accounts of Russian abuse of Chechens, to be fair there is also abuse from Chechen fighters on civilians.This is a dirty war because it is corrupt on all sides.You can also find numerous other articles, not just from Politkovskaya, that echo the same problems with corruption, human rights abuses, etc.Steven Lee Myers of the New York Times is also a good source.Why is it so unfathomable that soldiers might commit abuses, be xenophobic, rape, etc.What about Elza Kungayeva's rapist?He was a high ranking colonel.Even though her rape was ommitted from her autopsy report and he was never actually convicted of rape, he still murdered her.Is that okay?Is that fair or right?Is that not terrorism at it's finest? To form a solid opinion you really need to consider all sides; you need to look at the root problems, it isn't a simple issue.---And it's obvious that it cannot be resolved through military measures alone.There really has to be some considerate discussion.(Putin has blasted that idea so I don't think it will happen.)And you cannot put blinders up and think that abuse is impossible, or even okay.It's too easy to reduce the Chechens to a nation of terrorists.

An Interesting Story yet Too Biased for Comfort
This book was somewhat of a disapointment. This is largely due to it's obviously biased viewpoints. However, what really bothered me was its lack of real information. The story was basically a compilation of dramatic stories all stressing how inhumane or heartless the Russian soldiers were and how ignorant westerners are, which would have been okay had that not been the only thing Politkovskaya said throughout the book.

Fire Investigator
If you are a fire cause and origin investigator, you need this book! If you don't use it, you can bet an attorney will use it against you in civil or criminal proceedings. This book should be right next to your NFPA 921. DeHahn writes in a pragmatic and easy to understand format. I understand that the 6th ed. is getting ready for relase so you might wait a couple of weeks and get the latest. Bravo Dr. DeHaan, you've done it again!

BEST FOR FIRESCIENCE
The best book I know about fire; I like it for the strict scientific and pragmatic approach and the lot of practical hints, useful for a fire operator but also for a fire student.
Good Research Book
I bought this book as a step in investigating fires and arson steps of investigation in writing a novel.It does have a lot of good information, but it's very generalized--not specific.Good for the amateur fire sleuth that wants to get enought information to be able to 'talk the language.' ...
