5-0 out of 5 stars This is the one that got me through Torts in law school.
This is THE classic hornbook for torts, and is an indispensable part of any law student's library.I still find myself referring to this one from time to time. When I was in law school the lucid and clear explanations of law, combined with copious footnoted citations, made this book a joy to own and read.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good resource ... needs an update
I used this book in law school, and continue to use it 7 years into my practice. However the pocket part is the same one I've always had -- 1988 -- I cannot find an update.

5-0 out of 5 stars P&K is a classic
I used P&K to supplement my casebook and class notes, and it guided me to an A- in torts. It's a great tool and a great read. However, it does have certain limitations: the final edition was published in the late 80s, so it does not provide much guidance on product liability, infliction of emotional distress and other emerging areas of tort law.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Alright.
In a word, this book "sucks."I had to purchase it for a class in which I am currently using.Yea, it has an ABUNDANCE of useful information, but the part that gets me is the fact that if your teacher uses Abadinsky's testing booklet, it's all wrong. It's even been discussed in our class at how off the test questions are as opposed to what's in his book.If possible, which is hard when it comes to textbooks, buy another.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent text for Criminal Justice majors
I am a college professor who just finished teaching ORGANIZED CRIME to twenty college juniors and seniors.I selected Abadinsky's book as the text because it is carefully and thoughtfully "choreographed."The information provided flows in a sensible and clearly written design. Some texts appear to be designed for Rhodes Scholars and are virtually impossible to read. This is not the case with this great book!I recommend it to teachers and those who have in interest in this fascinating subject.

If you (the reader, the researcher) is interested in Organized Crime, I strongly recommend this book (Howard Abadinsky's Organized Crime, 6th Ed.) There are many better books out there that are easier to follow and comprehend if you are not a law student. Not impressive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensable for Execs, Mgrs, Invest. Pros, Mgmt Consultant
For the benefit of all the people who cannot take her course, Prof. Connie Bagley has written this book that has the same title as her course (sheteaches a quarter each at the Stanford and Harvard Business Schools). It isan extremely very well thought out and well written book. Throughout thebook Prof. Bagley has kept in mind the reader's background and organizedand written content in a way that will be of maximum benefit to thereader.4-0 out of 5 stars Great overview of main legal issues for managers
This book is amongst others used at the Stanford MBA course as an introduction to legal issues that may arise for managers in a variety of business situations. It is comprehensive and is well illustrated withlandmark case studies and relevant hypotheticals. Constance Bagley takesout most of the cumbersome legalistic language and makes the complexitiesof US corporate and civil law understandable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable to anyone with an interest in the meaning of the Constitution.
This is a remarkable work with contributions from more than a hundred legal scholars. The intent is to "present the Founder's understanding of the Constitution and its various provisions" along with the judicial interpretations and political circumstances that make up the historical development of constitutional law. Intended for an audience of lawmakers, judges and lawyers, the Heritage Guide is also a valuable addition to the library of any person with an abiding interest in one of the most - if not the most - remarkable documents created by the hand of man.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very solid reference of the Constitution
This book goes line by line through the Constitution explaining the original intent of the founders. It also has articles for each topic authored by the leading scholars in the respective areas. If you are interested in knowing the history of the Constitution, this book is a must.

1-0 out of 5 stars Just read it in the library
In my opinion this book is mostly circular advice. It's like coaching a basketball player on foul shooting and telling him little more than "make the shot."
5-0 out of 5 stars Worth It
Succinct, straightforward, info not available elsewhere (as easily), time-tested advice. Clearly worth having.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pragmatic, clear, systematic, and without equal
Former clerk to the Supreme Court and Professor at UCLA Eugene Volokh has given a remarkable gift to the legal community that would be a bargain at twice the price. It delivers pragmatic and thoughtful advice in a remarkably clear and lucid style. Moreover, it is not simply clear for law books--frankly, a low bar to pass--Volokh writes for the ordinary public daily on his eponymous blog (where you can read the first chapter of this book), and the skills required for that task manifest themselves in this work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Legal Guide / Reference
This book is incredibly thorough and it even points you to the relevant statutes in your state so you can look up the relevant laws. It is a great book. One thing to note is that all forms that you could want to edit are included on the CDROM as RTF files editable in any word processing program--a previous reviewer was wrong in saying that only PDF files were included on the CDROM.
1-0 out of 5 stars Unuseable PDF forms
This book seems to have a wealth of information and includes a CD with numerous forms, the Word documents are very useful. The PDF forms are not.The problem is none of them are editable. Why even include them? Why not creat them in Word format? This is unsatisfactory and a complete waste of time. Why even provide the forms electronically if you can't customize them, you might as well buy a book with the paper forms and photo copy them.

5-0 out of 5 stars For the layman's library as well as the expert's
If you--like this reader--want to be an educated newspaper reader and voter, then this book is worth the investment in time and money.Professional reviews indicate Amar's brilliance in the field of constitutional law, but that brilliance translates into a highy readable book.
3-0 out of 5 stars For lawyers and scholars only
America's Constitution follows the US Constitution, from the soaring brillinace of the preamble, through article 7 and each of the amendments.Amar describes in depth the historical and political background of each section and explains what the drafters had intended, why it was written with the particular words and expressions that were used, and the intended and unintended consequences of the choices made by the framers.
5-0 out of 5 stars great intro to the constitution
Amar explains in his postscript that his aim in writing this book was "to offer a comprehensive account of America's Constitution, introducing the reader both to the legal text (and its consequences) and to the political deeds that gave rise to that text." He has achieved this aim splendidly. This phrase-by-phrase guided tour through the document never fails to inform and provoke, whether or not one agrees with its author (and I don't always). It's also a very approachable book, in terms of both style and content. The knowledge base assumed here is considerable, but not forbidding: anybody with a good working knowledge of the Seven Articles and the better-known Amendments ought to be able to thread his way profitably through Amar's lucid and energetic narrative.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good comprehensive text
This book was mandatory for a forensic case law course taught by a seasoned forensic expert. It is thorough, accurate, and provides everything one needs to know before conducting forensic evaluations, as well as a significant amount of information most professionals ought to know but often don't.I recommend it as a tremendous resource for any clincian, especially those who have even a mild interest in forensic or correctional psychology.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5+*s
Not a light Sunday afternoon read, this book requires time to think and digest topics. It provides outstanding survey and advanced analysis of research, U.S. laws, and policies across the major foci. While a bit dated, it probably is the best source for gaining an understanding of forensic mental health. An outstanding reference.I feel somewhat odd in reviewing this book, almost like, I'd imagine someone feels when reviewing the Bible.Well worth the price.I wish it would have an annual or biannual update.

4-0 out of 5 stars Journeyman's Opinion
Excellent reference, but a little outdated as of this writing (Dec. 2001).Opinions and recommendations of the authors do not in all respects reflect the majority, or even the respectible minority, of forensic psychologists and psychiatrists.Nonetheless, an excellent reference to have in your library to get the overall gist of an issue or a topic at the interface of psychology and the law.Detailed information pertaining to actual practices will need to be located elsewhere. ...
