5-0 out of 5 stars At last!
I got this book the instant it came out. This is the topic I have been looking for from Deepak. I've always felt that his background in medicine, spiritual experience and wisdom traditions puts him in an almost unique position to really dig into the subject of the afterlife. He really delivers. This is a facinating read for the intellectually and spiritually curious.
1-0 out of 5 stars Pseudo Science
Chopra attempts to use the language of science to disguise absolute rubbish and convoluted thinking. Don't waste your time with this pseudo science dribble.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spirituality Examined
Once again Chopra has explored the edges or our spirituality, of our minds. Many of us who like to consider ourselves spiritual but thinking human beings have grappled with the concept of eternal life and studied the various religions to find an answer. Most are far too rigid.Chopra wants us to explore for ourselves.BRAVO to a courageous man! ... Editorial Review

This is a deep, magical, densely captivating book about space, our homes, how we live in them, and how dwellings and space affect us; it is as much a book of philosophy as a work of serious literature. It requires careful, preferably leisurely reading, with the possibility of moments to pause and digest and re-read the words. It will change the way you look at your home and your life, providing a deeper, more insightful relationship with the spaces you occupy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A book to savor .......
........this book is about house and its space and remembrance and meaning.House as protector, memory store, place in the world, construct. This is a philosophy book about house written by a poet, reflecting his views, and other's, onthe importance and vital organism that is shelter. If you love word that conjures thought...and love home (whatever that means for you) I believe you will savor this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing and Inspiring
I read this book in grad school and it completely changed the way I look at Home and the build environment. It brought back many memories of the all the places I lived when I was a kid and then as an adult and made me re-examine, not just the building but the town where I live.Beautifully written, it brings images to your mind.It also inspired my thesis project and the photographs I have been working on for the last few years. I've read it and re-read it, its just made me think about my home so much.

5-0 out of 5 stars The classic work of architectural phenomenology
Phenomenology is the school of philosophy that claims to begin its analysis of existence with a careful study of human experience. Its founder, Edmund Husserl, and its most famous exponent, Martin Heidegger, laid its groundwork with studies of the epistemological foundations of science and the nature of Being. Bachelard apples their methods to architecture, basing his analysis not on purported origins (as was the trend in Enlightenment thinking about architecture) but on lived experience of architecture. He is thus led to consider such emotionally charged spatial types as the attic, the cellar, drawers and the like. In its emphasis on actual experience, it is refreshingly real, in contrast to much recent architectural theory that treats architecture as "text". The proof of the phenomenological pudding is always in the reader's response to the experiences being described. Bachelard is an exceptionally acute writer of such descriptions. This book implicitly urges architects to base their work on the experiences it will engender rather than on abstract rationales that may or may not affect viewers and users of architecture. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Space is produced by, and produces, society
Thinkers have long analyzed things in space, but it is time to analyze space itself and "the social relationships embedded in it" according to Lefebvre. He wants to analyze the form, structure, and function of something he calls "social space" and explore how such spaces have been produced.4-0 out of 5 stars Engaging and intellectually nourishing
The Production of Space is a thick yet engaging introduction to Postmodern spatial theory, providing insights to a variety of philosophical concepts centering on how we perceive, construct, and reproduce both physical and mental spaces. While complex and eclectic, Lefebvre's book provides ample food for thought for those interested in the means by which we as human beings understand space in the world and how we negotiate and transpose it in our minds.4-0 out of 5 stars Cryptic Conceptualization of Space
Henri Lefebvre's epic book, The Production of Space is a cryptic exploration into the production of various kinds of space. While I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in a comprehensive spatialanalysis, I warn the reader to avoid jumping into the book blindly. It isnot a book to be kept on the night table and read leisurely before driftingoff to sleep. It is a serious book and requires serious concentration onthe part of the reader. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Appearances and Being
Arendt's premise - assuming that Chapter 1 is the place to start and the book is not a suspense novel, that "Being and Appearing coincide," and that nothing exists that does not presume a spectator, made it difficult for me to continue the book. She maintains, up front, that Being and Appearance are prominent (she refers to them as part of the "two-world theory") philosophical fallacies. What a place too begin?! And so dogmatically! She goes on to use the internal organs of a man as an example of "behind the appearances" (my quote marks), then spins off additional abstractions (as if philospophy needs them) such as semblance and authentic appearance and process.Later, she pronounces "thought without speech is inconceivable"; oh boy.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must read
If you are interested in philosophy or religion, then you must read this book. I think book 2 on the will is the more important of the two books. The central issue is the movement of time, if time is linear then the will is central in creating reality, if time is circular then the will is an illusion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Philosophically speaking, this is Arendt at her best.
In her typical straight-to-the-point style of writing, Arendt explores some of the most philosophically important questions asked since antiquity. She guides us through the ages of development on topics such as freewill, time, and Being. She is one of the most important thinkers, not of the 20th century, but of all "time". This is Arendt for the philosopher/thinker, not the political scientist. From Heraclitus to Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Arendt leaves no great thinker's stone unturned. I've read a lot of books, and this is probably one of the most important. Does she give us any answers to these important questions? NO. However, she shows that there are no answers to these questions, only better questions to be asked. ... Read more

There is no point in trying to say whether Being and Time is "interesting" or "good," because anyone looking at this review already knows that this is not a breezy pleasure-read for the poolside. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great way to get Wilber
There is a lot of great work out there regarding integral theory.Ken Wilber has been instrumental in bringing it all together. His different books reflect the evolution of his theories. Many are very dense and a lot of folks give up.I find that when Ken talks about integral theory, I get it a lot easier than from reading him. These discs are a series of structured interviews that lead you step by step through his map of integral theory.Work with this and his next greatest work, Sex, Ecology and Spirituality flows a lot easier. Also his latest book on Integral Spirituality will sink in a lot easier. This is a must have if you want to really get integral theory and certainly if you want to understand Wilber. As an integral coach, this work is the foundation for my training lineage.

By all accounts this product is in the condition promised. Thanks!

3-0 out of 5 stars Flawed but interesting
For an audience made up of new age environmentalist pseudo intellectuals, I'm sure this succeeds on all levels. In it's best light, this work could be considered a form of literary criticism, or a conceptual piece on the philosopy and psychology of spiritual development. But for people with some knowledge of true science, or maybe just a normal sized b.s. detector, they will find at least a few flaws in an otherwise interesting package.

1-0 out of 5 stars Repetitive and redundant
Of the thousands of books I've read in my life, and the hundreds I've actually purchased from Amazon.com, this is the first time I've felt strongly enough about a book to write any sort of review.
5-0 out of 5 stars In the Beginning Was the Word
Dr. Fred Alan Wolf has once again pricked our consciousness in order to awaken us to realities already within our grasp. In Mind Into Matter he explains in lay terms how thought transmutates into the material, and how we can therefore truly create not only our world, but the world we leave to our children. In essence, a "you-niverse"Recent centuries of scientific development have attempted to understand and describe all creation strictly as objective science, to the detriment and ignorance of the subjective. It's time the pendulum swung back a bit. By melding the ideas of the old alchemists with those of the new scientists, Wolf uses the language of quantum physics to describe what the alchemists and Qabalists have long called the Magnum Opus - the Absolute Realization.
5-0 out of 5 stars An Inspiring View of Consciousness & Reality
I'm very picky about books that deal with the relationship between physics and consciousness, but this one I like. In books of this sort, the understanding of physics is often too limited, while on the other hand there is frequently very little appreciation for the depth of ancient metaphysical traditions. This book does a very good job of working with both sides in a highly intelligent yet readable manner.

5-0 out of 5 stars seminal work of the greatest of philosophers
I am an avid reader of philosophical books and without any doubt i consider Immanuel Kant as the greatest mind who has ever written on such abstract subjects. This work is a real copernican revolution, putting forth the structure of our cognitive systems and the way we perceive the world around us.At least it changed my own worldview, making me recognize that i am the creator of my thoughts and not a simple observer. For this reason i consider it one of the most important books i have ever read.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor translation
I read the long but fruitful review about the results of different translations of this text.So I went to my in-law who is German and she read a few paragraphs from the German. When I showed her the parallel text in English by Guyer and Wood, she was appalled at how inaccurate it was.She said the German was beautiful prose whereas the translation was aweful and didn't reflect the style of the German at all.She thought that the NK Smith was good English, but that it wasn't very accurate either.Unfortunately, I didn't get her opinion on the other translations.
1-0 out of 5 stars Very Poor Translation
Please note that I am reviewing only the Guyer-Wood translation, not the work itself.

5-0 out of 5 stars The brilliance of Deleuze
Difference and Repetition is the most brilliant work of philosophy I have read. However the book does rely on a huge amount of background knowledge which took my over a year and a half to compile. My advice for any reader attempting to read D&R is to read Manuel DeLanda's Intensive Science and Virtual Philosophy. All of the obscure references to mathematical and scientific concepts are throuroughly explicated in DeLandas book. I can honestly say that if it were not for Intensice Philsosophy and Virtual Science I would not have been able to comprehend the key philosophical concepts deployed in D&R such as singlarities as pre-individual attractors and the nature of the virtual.
5-0 out of 5 stars Grounding a Philosophy of Difference
This is (arguably) the most important work written by Deleuze for a reason that seems to me is often obscured or merely forgotten: it is (maybe) the only work that seeks to lay the foundation for a systematic treatment of `difference' and by ex-tension (or in-tension) `repetition'. It does not seek to derive `difference' and `repetition' (simply) from identity and the in-dividual. It seeks to think of `difference' and `repetition' in themselves. And this is what is important here: thinking (and not some petty play of figures and words in the frontal attacks or soul mating with particular thinkers) in its rhizomatic form rather than its arborescent one. 5-0 out of 5 stars Deleuze is a monster
Difference and repetition struck me as nothing I've ever read before has struck me. The fun thing about "reading" it, is that, when you think about it, the act of reading itself makes understanding parts of this work more clear. Reading this becomes a "machinic" activity as it were: immediate, affective, with its own unpredictability, with many gaps, moments of insight, despair, and so on. It seems contradictory, because I think it is the most rigorous and analytic of all of Deleuzes works. But it is immensely dense, as other reviewers also say.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Who'd a thunk it...an actual philosophy book
This is a very good book.It actually is a philosophy book in that it makes one think about the fundamental: Is there a purpose? It does this by describing how philosophers over the last 300 years have defined and explained suffering and evil.I had not read many of the authors but Neiman is able to frame up their thoughts in the text without too much trouble.I made a couple of sidetrips to the dictionary and some other reference sources but not many. For the authors I had read, I found her observations new and interesting. Some key themes that bounced around are:
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing.
This is a very good book.If you have ever wondered "How can a good God allow such evil in the world?"or "Given that there is such evil in the world, if there is an all-powerful God, that God must be evil", then this book will be interesting for you.It takes you through the centuries-long philosophical attempts of reasonable people to make sense of evil in the world.
5-0 out of 5 stars Is Evil A Dead Issue?
The concept of evil has occupied a significant place in philosophy throughout the history of man's thinking. Dr. Neiman has written a very interesting book that explores the problem of evil as considered from early modern thinking to the present. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Polanyi In Context
Since many of Polanyi's main ideas in the book are given in other reviews, I thought it might be helpful to mention some other figures that are often associated with Polanyi so as to provide more of a context for his thought.First, the philosopher Marjorie Green, acted as Polanyi's interpreter to the philosophical community while he was alive. Her most accessible work is called The Knower and the Known. She did think that toward the end of his life he started to change some of his ideas (for the worse according to Green) although my cursory reading of the issues surrounding this claim have led me to conclude that it is mostly phiosophical hair-splitting. I consider Thomas F. Torrance, theologian and former moderator of the Church of Scotland, to be Polanyi's best living interpreter. He is particularly important to understanding trends in theology that have been influenced by Polanyi's thought. Most helpful is a long article that was published elswhere but is now found in a book called Transformation and Convergence in the Frame of Knowledge. Torrance does an excellent job of comparing Polanyi to the another big name in epistemology, namely Karl Popper, arguing that Polanyi's views are more inclusive and therefore superior. Some instructive comparisons between several seemingly disparate figures such as Kierkegaard, Piaget, Einstein, and Torrance can be found in a book entitled The Knight's Move by Loder and Neidhardt. I think someone has also mentioned it but Everyman Revived really is a nice little summary of Polanyi's main ideas. If you are a philosophy student you must read Personal Knowledge as it is the magnum opus of a very influential but often little recognized figure in the history of epistemology and the interface between science and philosophy.

4-0 out of 5 stars In response to "Good for it's time, but..."
"Personal Knowledge" by Michael Polanyi is still a valuable contribution, even now.3-0 out of 5 stars Okay for its time, but...
I don't think much of personological/subjective explanations of science, such as Kuhn's and Polanyi's, but I think their views should be heard and considered nevertheless. Western writers seem to have an odd fascination with this sort of approach, for reasons that are understandable historically but that I believe are still untenable, most of which is related to the west's obsession with the individual ego and individual consciousness and with the phenomenological and existential approaches to reality that grew out of that.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Channelings
This book is typical of the many channelings that are coming at us fast and furious and especially with the advent of the internet. This is great but requires a small caution that is given in that much revered graven image called the King James Bible. (or any other bible) We are to let the tares grow along side the wheat until a complete understanding comes to us. Any channeling that comes thru a human element will more than likely have some tares or personal opinions. Nothing wrong with that if you are able to read without judgment or a pre-set defense. In other words, don't try to make it say what you already know. You learn nothing that way. Just read, think about it and enjoy whatever comes up within you. All things are good if you love the Lord and according to this book you are Love. It shouldn't be too hard to love if you are love.

1-0 out of 5 stars delusionary author needs to change her meds
The author has an occasional interesting thought about things spiritual, but most readers will get quickly bored with the whole question and answer premis.I found it laughable that she believes that Jesus came to her so she could paint his picture over a number of months.Apparently she has never heard of digital cameras.
5-0 out of 5 stars Get this book! You will not regret it.
I'm only about halfway through and I'm already slowing down and reading only a couple of pages at a time. Why? I don't want it to end! I've read every single book out there about Jeshua it seems. There are so many good ones. But this one, even whether or not you believe the author really saw and spoke with Him, is special. I feel His words and they ring oh so true. While He talks about love and the sacred heart, He also goes on to explain why things are the way they are. He gets into the nitty gritty. It's not just a book about peace, love and happiness. There's some serious data in here as well. Like I said I'm only halfway through and already a couple of things I was confused about are cleared up. And I've experienced a whole lotta synchronicity around it too, which is always fun. Don't even think about buying this book, just DO it! It'll give you a peace and understanding that nothing else will in this particular way. ... Read more
