4-0 out of 5 stars Reply To Tom Markus
He said, "Let faith be your guide and never deny the Word of God that specifically calls for us to reject the San Fancisco values of Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat Party."
5-0 out of 5 stars Well said
I felt better about the Republican party - hopeful there can be change within it, a way to get out of the current disappointing party it has become. This book was thoughtful, and personally helpful to me, in a worldly and a spiritual way. Its a great read, and I felt the better for having experienced it.

5-0 out of 5 stars another conservative shows thatBush is not conservative
Sullivan does excellent work in showing how far from traditional conservatism George W. Bush is with his emphasis on heavy government spending without commensurate taxation, his unconscionable expansion of executive power at the expense of other branches of government and against the U.S. Constitution, as well as his putting religious ideas, themselves without rational basis, in the place of reasonable, skeptical inquiry. The only fault of the book is that it makes Reagan a more competent president than in fact he was:Reagan's fiscal profligacy in expanding defense spending while cutting taxes doubled the national debt in the eight years of his administration.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not only politicians but also voters need to upgrade their savvy
In _Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business_ (1985), Neil Postman (1931-2003) detailed the decline of public discourse in the Age of Television.
4-0 out of 5 stars Starts Out Good, then slides downhill -
"The Way to Win" professes to provide campaign secrets from both the Clintons and Bushes (read Rove). In reality, it offers little in the way of secrets, though it starts off well by describing the reality of the New Media "Freak Show."
4-0 out of 5 stars Sharp political analysis for the political junkie
The Way to Win is a very good book.I bought it when I needed something to read on the train from D.C. to New York.I was pleasantly surprised by its readability and insights. The Way to Win is a well-thought out, timely, at times fascinating exposition of not just what it will take to win the presidency in 2008, but more broadly how the drastic changes to the way news is reported in this country will affect national politics in the future. The authors' analysis of this new media age, which they dub the "Freak Show," is probably the book's most useful contribution, even more so than their assortment of "trade secrets" to prospective presidential contenders.

5-0 out of 5 stars you shall love your neighbor as yourself
Danforth follows the teachings of Jesus in this moderate and sensible discussion of the extremes theocons go to in following an badly distorted religion that has little to do with NT Christianity.Danforth makes the point much less emphatically than that, always willing to give evangelicals more than the benefit of the doubt. Nevertheless, the gun-totin' execution-advocatin'tax-hatin' theocons bear no resemblance to the Jesus of the bible who advised against using weapons, stopped an execution, and in Lukehas only hard words for the rich and those who pursue wealth.
4-0 out of 5 stars Where's the Democrat Doing the Same?
In terms of extreme partisanship, Danforth has nailed the problems with the modern Republican Party on the head. The greatest confusion on this issue, however, rests in the assumption that the most vociferous opponents of the Republicans are somehow different. They are fanatical too, and in a profoundly quasi-religious way. Righteousness is now at the core of both party bases.
1-0 out of 5 stars Politics and Faithyness
In 1909, G.K. Chesterton recognized the danger of Episcopalianism ceasing to be a religion without ceasing to be a church.Mr. Danforth, who publicly dons the mantle of credibility as a former Episcopalian clergyman, seems to be a perfect example of this unfortunate decline. The kernel is gone but he clings to the shell.

1-0 out of 5 stars You can't judge a book by its cover!
I saw the cover of this book and thought it must be one of the new plethora of diet and workout books. This conclusion reached due to the way Ms. Coulter is dressed.
5-0 out of 5 stars Thank GOD, a taste of their own medicine.
Ann Coulter is witty and insightful. The liberals want to throw stone and claim separation of church and state. That's because even a Satanist would cringe at their ultra left views. The liberals are finally getting what they're giving and they just can't handle it. Anyone who has actually taken the time to read this book as opposed to simply reading the Liberal talking points would have to say it's at the very least factual. Less than can be said about the near plagiarism of the less witty, less intelligent, less factual attack on this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ann Coulter

3-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Book
I am a liberal democrat. This book is Amazing.By using the things in this book. A rightwing person never has to tell the truth or admit mistakes. It is almost frightening.I am adapting the methods as I go along to dealing with Right Wingers, by Liberals. If one can use this book to deceive and avoid truth concerning Liberals, the same method can work to deceive and avoid Conservative rhetoric.
1-0 out of 5 stars This Guy is Good!Dangerous!
Gregg Jackson has written an amazing book.I have seen this guy in action and I have to say, that he is impressive. His "FACCE" method of debate is an effective tool.He can win almost anyboy over to his way of thinking.I agree with other reviewers that he has compiled a lot of information in an easily accesible, well organized reference guidebook. This book has facts and figures that will effectively arm aggressive conservatives, more than eager to debate and lambast the nearest liberal.Let's face it:Americans today, do not usually go around with a lot of pertinent facts like these in their heads, ready to use in a debate.Look at the people Jay Leno interviews on the street...some don't know where Canada is, or who the U.S. Vice President is... let alone would they be able to take a stand on current events issues. That's not a conservative or a liberal phenomenon - that's non-partisan ignorance.
2-0 out of 5 stars Requires a little imaginative thinking
The conservative mindset seems to be that 'liberals' are as monolithic in their views as conservatives and unlike conservatives who are honest and good are a pack of rotten liars. If you can buy into that basic notion, you might enjoy the book.Otherwise, watching the author knock down straw men could be a little dull.

3-0 out of 5 stars Bankrupt and Disappointed
Okay, I'm conservative, but I found this book... disappointing at best, and only gave it 3 stars. The book is a rehash of the insanity of liberals in America today, and how the Democrats are making fools of themselves pandering to said libs.We all know that.If you agree with Limbaugh (and I do), the book is preaching to the choir. If Democrats would read it, have an epiphany and say, "Oh my gosh, we're being foolish and destroying America," that would be another. They won't.So this book does no good except make the conservatives feel warm and fuzzy.Besides, I felt that the only real meat of the book was in the last two chapters.Liberals are dangerous... in the long term, they are as big a threat to America as the terrroists.Democrats are foolish not to divorce themselves from the libs and move closer to the center. This book would help, but ONLY if you get a Democrat to read it.Fat chance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hoisted On Their Own Petard - The Left In It's Own Words
David Limbaugh, with this book, has done the country a great service by detailing the desperate times the Left in this country finds themselves in and he does it by quoting them continuously as they search for a way to become relevant and to return to power.
3-0 out of 5 stars Read and Research, Think.
I am giving this book 3 stars because I couldn't choose a "no rating" evaluation. I am the narrator for the audiobook version of David Limbaugh's book and just want to say that this book like all books should be read carefully and thought about carefully. There is much to think about and discuss regarding the ideas and opinions expressed here. The divisiveness in some of the reviews and between our two major political parties is a waste of time. Children on the playground. Read this book, read others, research, think and act. Thanks for reading this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Understanding the Psychology of Authoritarian Conservatism
Die-hard right wing authoritarian conservatives. We all know at least a few - those sworn idealogues that only get their information from Fox News, can't get enough of conservative talk radio, and blame America's failures and short-comings on minorities, immigrants, gays, liberals, the French and their mythical favorite - the so-called welfare state. They corner the market on Jesus, morality and patriotism, slander anyone that doesn't walk in lockstep with their extremist agenda, and when things aren't going their way, they blame the mythical "liberal media" and disregard whistleblowers as disloyal opportunists.
5-0 out of 5 stars An Examination of the American Authoritarian
In many ways reminiscent of Kevin Phillips' recent works (American Theocracy comes to mind), John Dean writes from the viewpoint of a traditional conservative, someone whom Mr Dean proves would find no home in today's Republican Party. He comes from the time-honored libertarian type of conservative who believes in conserving resources, preserving our nation's institutions for the next generations, spending within our means and not spending trillions on tragic and needless wars, protecting personal privacy and keeping government and religion separate.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sobering Reality
I like this book, because it provided some insight as to why some folks are bent on ruling the world and running this fabulous country into the ground. I might not agree with all of what John Dean has said, however these are many, many elements of truth in his book. How the Republican party has been seduced and lied to by the extremely far right, the religous zealots that would like to roll back the separation of church and state to the point where we become a homogenous nation. The other zealots that would like to return to a monarchy with the haves with all of the have and everyone else suffering in the dust. The United States as a country is like a fine automobile on a fine road. You drive it too far to the left, you run into on coming traffic, and you drive it too far to the right, you will wind up in the weeds. There are almost 300 million americans, more of us should read this book, and take back both parties from the forces of evil that inhabit both sides of the road. You should read this book, it is actually a very good read, and some of it is funny. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS BOOK!! It might save your life.
This is a slightly edited copy of mail I sent to Andy Borowitz. I seriously needed and loved this book. Please take a chance and buy it. As I said, above, it might save your life. Or at least your mental health!
5-0 out of 5 stars It's not really a play ...
but it is a tragicomedy. The manipulation and betrayal of American voters may not seem hilarious, but Borowitz shows us humor galore there.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sharp Satire Shocker!
Andy Borowitz is a genius of political satire! I ordered "The Republican Playbook" and Frank Rich's "The Greatest Story Ever Sold" at the same time. One is fiction, one is non-fiction. One makes me laugh, one makes me cry.

4-0 out of 5 stars Rat-a-tat-tat.The RWC does drive-by
This book is a RAPID-FIRE series of substantiated indictments of the former First Lady.It seemed like every word was annotated or referenced. There are around 12 "exhibits" and another 8 pages of notes in the back to drive home the message. It's easy to read and stay engaged with this book. One has no doubt as to where the author and book stand on the issue of Mrs. Clinton. The tone of each (short) section consistently frowns on the documented, proven, indisputable, yet ostensibly still "questionable" actions of Mrs. Clinton. You end up shaking your head and wondering how someone could get away with so much. That said, the title is correct in saying that this is a (VWRC-style) dossier. The actions in question are documented and/or explained, then part of the time the author goes an extra step to lambaste the former First Lady or sneer in Mrs. Clinton's general direction.I never said this was Adam Smith...
1-0 out of 5 stars mourn the dead trees
You can find these same arguments in about half a dozen other gratuitously Hillary-bashing right-wingnut diatribes.Of course, those other books are every bit as intellectually bankrupt as this one, so don't waste your time with those either. If you want quotes taken out of context and half-truths posing as revelations, this is the book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE book to prevent another Clinton Presidency
Carpenter's book is sure to be THE book to save Americans from another Clinton Presidency. It is filled with documents and evidence, and not just rhetoric.

2-0 out of 5 stars Descend into Insanity 1 Page at a Time
In another rehashed treatise on Savage's perverted sense of truth, he sells a miserable, peripatetic screed to his lemming-like followers. This man's politics and principles have been condemned by such well-established conservative journals as The Economist. We all need someone to trust, and for Savage that person is the MD who will prescribe him some thorazine.Gets 2 stars only because of the book's educational value as an example of the ramblings of a lunatic.Barry Goldwater must be spinning in his grave.

3-0 out of 5 stars WELL, HE DOES HAVE A POINT...SOMETIMES!!
I WONT SAY I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING MR. WEINER SAYS AND SOME OF HIS VIEWS ARE WAY TOO EXTREME FOR MY TASTES. BUT I THINK HE MAKES SOME SENSE ON CERTAIN ISSUES. ESPECIALLY ISLAMOFACISM AND THE TRUE NATURE OF THIS ACCURSED RELIGION. AS A KEEN STUDENT OF HISTORY AND PHILOSPHY I WOULD AGREE WITH MR WEINER'S VIEWS ON THE RELIGION; ITS EVILS,INTOLERENCE,HATRED AND INCITEMENT TO COMMIT HEINOUS CRIMES IN THE NAME OF ALLAH. IT IS BIGGEST THREAT IN THE LONG TERM FOR ALL CIVILZATION IF YOU HAVE READ YOUR WORLD HISTORY. SAY WHAT YOU WILL BUT HE IS AN INDEPENDENT THINKER AND NOT LIKE THE OTHER RIGHT WING STOOGES OF HANNITY,LIMBAUG AND THE REST OF THE CIRCUS WHO TRY TO SPIN THE INADEQUACIES OF THE CURRENT GOVERNMENT.YOU HAVE TO ADMIT HE IS EDUCATED,WELL QUALIFIED(WITH ALL HIS DEGREES) AND SPEAKS HIS MIND. IT IS GOOD TO HEAR HIS POLITICALLY INCORRECT SPEECH AND JUST CHUCKLE AT SOME OBSERVATIONS. AMERICA,DESPITE HIS EXTREME AND RIGHTIST TENDENCIES YOU NEED A PERSON LIKE HIM TO BLAST THE BIPARTISIAN HYPOCRISY AND POLITICAL CORRECTNESS. I THINK SOME OF HIS TALK IS MORE FOR SHOCK AND ENTERTAINMENT VALUE THEN REAL OPINION. WELL,PERHAPS HE IS EXORCISING HIS OWN PERSONAL DEMONS THROUGH TALK RADIO. WELL, MENTAL ILLNESS SHOULD NOT STOP ANYONE FROM DOING TALK RADIO.ANYWAY, THE SHOW IS NEVER BORING..

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ for all you demented liberals...but then I repeat myself
There is a cure from your liberal disease. Take a non-partisan journey with Dr Savage and open your so called liberal mind to the truth.

Editorial Review

This forceful, sarcastic, and often hilarious book offers tips on arguing with liberals, which include the following: don't be defensive, always outrage the enemy, and never apologize to, compliment, or show graciousness to a Democrat. Welcome to the world according to Ann Coulter. Ever combative, Coulter is unafraid to court controversy or confront her detractors head-on, whether they are mainstream journalists and talk-show hosts who have misquoted her without apology or "weak and frightened conservatives" craving liberal approval. Though the writing is often over-the-top, the book if full of one-liners that will delight conservatives, such as "the best way to convert liberals is to have them move out of their parents' home, get a job, and start paying taxes." But there is more here than just insults and countless jabs at Bill Clinton, and even her most devoted readers will find much new material in the book. Largely a collection of her syndicated columns from the past decade, Read more

True to his word, Balmer writes as a jilted lover. He wastes no time in launching into an account the Religious Right's fixation on abortion and homosexuality, which he sees as paradigmatic of what is wrong with the Religious Right.According to Balmer, their fixation is not a function of religious or moral conviction so much as a result of political expediency.
5-0 out of 5 stars Bush republicans will not appreciate this book
Mr Balmer explains very well the connections between the Religious Right and the current administration/conservative republicans. They make use of the Old Testament to justify their policies on the environment and torture. Mr Balmer 's perspective comes from the teachings of Jesus and the New Testament. I tend to agree with him, although I am not a great believer/follower of organized Christianity. A good book if you disagree with legislated morality and government involvement in your daily life. If you need someone to tell you what to do, who to follow and what to believe, you will not appreciate this book. I see a few of these people have read and reviewed the book already. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Republican Party Should Return To Favoring Liberty
It's stunning when you realize just how incompatible social conservatism is with the ideal of personal liberty and freedom. On the issue of abortion, for instance, social conservatives advocate what amounts to the government enslaving a woman, who does not wish to be pregnant, to the personal service of a fetus for nine months. She is to be forced to provide life support to the fetus with her organs and allow it to greatly swell her abdomen to the conclusion of a painful and arduous birth. I know that pregnancy can be a very beautiful and awe inspiring process when the woman desires it, but it can be a violative nightmare when she does not.
5-0 out of 5 stars For those of us who miss Reagan
Great, funny, informative, witty book on what has happened to the Republican party since 1995. This book describes the history of conservatism since 1945, and how there used to be balance between the libertarians (who value individual freedom and limited government), and the social conservatives (who value tradition and religion). These two groups complemented each other and were like the yin and yang of the GOP: they kept the party in balance.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Stupid Party
This book has been a major inspiration to me and my way of thinking. It is not very difficult to go online and read any number of Conservatives talking about all of the issues of the day. But, this book stands alone in following and celebrating the history of Conservative intellectuals. Often times it is portrayed (not without some merit) that Conservatives are anti-intellectual. I have frequently heard that Liberals are just naturally smarter or more inclined to be an intellectual. But, The Conservative Mind blows a hole through all of that. Kirk examines major Conservative thinkers like: Edmund Burke, John Adams, George Canning, Benjamin Disraeli, John Randolph of Roanoke, Orestes Brownson, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, John C. Calhoun, and T. S Eliot (amung many many others).
2-0 out of 5 stars Repellent Sale of Conservativism
The fatalistic view of Conservativism is expressed by Kirk even before the first chapter concludes as he states, "[Edmund] Burke, could he see our century, never would concede that a consumption-society, so near suicide, is the end for which Providence has prepared man".But wait. The Conservative Mind was first published in 1953, the mythical golden age of America with Ward and June Cleaver and Normal Rockwell. Meanwhile, Burke, a contemporary of the 18th century is pining for the 14th century. What a depressing ideology to think that we always live in the worst of times.
5-0 out of 5 stars Please don't review it if you don't understand it.
Probably most people reading this already know of this book's reputation and influence, so I'll skip over both the chapter-by-chapter analysis and the praise (I'd end up in what Kirk would call "overweening" praise, anyway). But I do want to respond to a typical liberal caricature offered by a previous reviewer. The caricature to which I refer is the idea that a conservative is anyone opposed to change. In fact, the reviewer even argued that the Soviet Union could have been seen as a "conservative" system (an argument endlessly repeated in contemporary media).

5-0 out of 5 stars The Shadow Party
This is a must read for all voters. Democrats should especially read this to see who it is they are actually empowering and supporting. George Soros is affiliated with and funding many subversive groups including ACORN and the ACLU and many, many more. He has brought down the collapse of currencies in several sovereign nations through hedging and in the process millions of Britains lost their life savings. He has a hate-America obsession. If Democrat voters read this, I am sure the vast majority would not want to further empower this man and would frown on politicians that pander to him. MUST READ!

4-0 out of 5 stars Follow the money
This is not a book about Soros' political philosophy.Soros doesn't have one that is identifiable. But, more importantly, this book is not a conspiracy book, even though the title might suggest that it is.This book traces Soros' demonstrable influence in the Democratic party, and the money that he uses to buy that influence. This book is a short read, but it is not a page-turner.Horowitz and Poe admirably provide the detail and the footnotes, to illustrate Soros' long-term plan, here and in the rest of the world, all of which can be summed up by one word: Scary! An important book: Horowitz and Poe should be commended.

1-0 out of 5 stars Republican Noise Machine at its Worst
This poorly researched book of straight up fabrications and quotes taken out of context has one thing right, some radical 60's leftists are trying to take over America, namely David Horowitz (former left-wing radical and Black Panther) and his band of 'former' socialists turned neos.

3-0 out of 5 stars Of course he is right!
Ed Gillespie is the man who is able to articulate the true message of the Newt Gingrich revolution: You are either right or wrong. And for Ed and the rest of the "Reagan is God" crowd, right means right wing, right religion, right thinking, and don't question the authorities. Anything else is wrong thinking. Get in line, and don't question the men of wisdom. And if you do, well, you are a communist or a "liberal" who does not deserve the benefits of the conservative revolution. Ed's "Contract on America" was a rousing failure, but that never shamed him enough to think much about it. Nothing to see there, just move along, OK?
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for political junkies of all stripes...
Gillespie's book is chock full of great anecdotes about the many elected officials and other characters he has worked with through the years. While some think political people are all anger and hard eges, this book shows that players in this business can be (indeed should be) decent and respectful of their opponents. Gillespie's policy prescriptions at the end of the book are sound, and some were new to me, and the section about his work in helping the recent Supreme Court nominees offered some interesting insider information.
5-0 out of 5 stars A perspective on how the game is played and the challenges your faced with...
An interesting history of one mans ascent into politics. One of great loyalty, commitment and not to mention his impeccable values. The book is filled with inspiring stories along with humor that keeps you from wanting to put this one down. One of the most impressive political strategists we have today! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Look under the hood
The author is clearly a Democrat, but the book gives an under-the-hood perspective on modern campaign techniques on both sides of the aisle.

4-0 out of 5 stars Serious analysis with lots of facts
This book has been seriously misrepresented in the press (a stupid review by George Will and a misleading review on Amazon). It is a very serious work of scholarship with a good deal of insight into the problems of the Democratic party. Edsall characterises the Democratic party as (a) an uneasy and unstable alliance of minorities and the poor, who have serious economic issues on the one hand, and liberal, affluent elites with interests in new age values and individual liberation on the other. He charges that Democrats have no coherent economic policy to protect marginal groups in the age of globalization, no coherent policy for rectifying government inefficiency and stifling bureaucracy, and no credibility in dealing with military affairs in particular, and foreign affairs in general. Liberal values, he argues, have led to the election of Republican mayors and governors, as for instance, noting that Dinkins in New York was so ineffective that he was followed by four successive Republican mayors. Democrats, moreover, are in bed with the most venal of feeders at the public trough, organized unions in education (AFT and NEA), whose bread and butter middle class economic issues prevent Democrats from espousing choice programs that would benefit the less well off.
1-0 out of 5 stars Really bad
Author just does not get it.Every word, every line, every chapter in this book assumes without ever examining that what the Democratic Party says is really what the great majority of people want, and that the party's only problem is communication.Horsefeathers.Never explores the possibility that people do accurately understand the Democrat's platform and agenda and have examined it, weighed it, and thoughtfully found it wanting.According to Edsall, Republicans are driven only by fear, racism, anger, etc. -- never by reason or principles -- while Democrats are just the opposite.Author can't even bring himself to say illegal immigrant and always uses the style "illegal" immigrant. What is so hard about understanding and saying (1) our laws do not allow everyone who wants to to move into the US, and (2) people who come into the US in violation of those laws have therefore broken them, so are here illegally?People who are waiting for Green Cards, following the law in applying through legal channels, are right to find queue jumpers offensive and wrong.

5-0 out of 5 stars Redeeming Factors
Like it or not, producer and anchor of "The O'Reilly Factor," Bill O'Reilly tells it like it is and how he sees it during his "no spin zone" portion of news at Fox.His writings in the book, "The O'Reilly Factor:The Good, the Bad, and the Completely Ridiculous in American Life," is more of a look into abiding social issues than late-breaking news, but if you like his show and his outspoken candor, you are sure to enjoy this book as much.Especially because he is able to "talk" more in-depth in this book, without the time cues of the show.I agreed with 85% of what Mr. O'Reilly had to say. With sharp wit and humor, parts of this book had me laughing out loud (especially his short story of meeting Elton John for the first time).Outlined in pith, are the chapters:
4-0 out of 5 stars To the point with a chuckle!
This is witty commentary on O'Reilly's basic pet peeves in American society. It is brief and not too heavy. Here are some pet peeves from a reader and viewer of Bill's:
4-0 out of 5 stars uplifting
Generosity, patience, honesty, and tolerance ( but not of evil).Truly American values.I'm glad I read this book, as I did find it uplifting. The values Mr. O'Reilly espouses are to be strived for, especially if America is to remain the great country it is, now and in the past.Thank you Mr. O'Oreilly for writing this book, and the O'Reilly Factorfor Kids which I also found to be an excellent read and an important one for a new generation of Americans. ...
