5-0 out of 5 stars Clear and compelling
This book spells out in a clear and compelling fashion the challenges that American workers face in our global economy, and what can be done to stop the American dream from disintegrating any further.
5-0 out of 5 stars Finally!
Finally, a book that tells the truth about what is really happening to the middle class in this country -- and more importantly, gives common sense solutions that could really turn America around. That's probably because it is written -- not by someone who has spent his life in academia or in politics or talking on TV or radio -- but on the front lines actually fighting to make work pay for working families. He's looked both employers and working people in the eye, and that makes all the difference. This book is interesting, personal, and visionary.

1-0 out of 5 stars Whatever
If you want to rid yourself of your neighbor's well-trained, powerful, vicious guard dog, don't send Mickey Mouse to do the job. Coulter writes so far above Maguire's head, he shouldn't be questioning her brain power. If liberals really want to do some damage to Coulter, they should stop offering up cannon-fodder.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
An earlier review of this book reads "Notice that this rag has 11 reviews, whereas Ann's actual book has over 1800."That's the same one sidedness that Ann has tried to promote throughout her career- she's popular so she must be right.Maguire rips Coulter and her arguments to shreds, showing time and time again where she lambasts the liberal perspective for doing one thing and then defends the conservatives for doing the same thing.(See the chapter "Ann Has it Both Ways") He shows how out of touch Ann is with the common man:Unlike Michael Moore, who is criticized for criticizing the upper class while he has gone on to become a wealthy man, Ann was BORN INTO wealth and privelage rather than Moore who was BORN INTO the working class life of Flint, Michigan.Maguire debunks Coulter over and over again, revealing her to be the arrogant, racist, lying, hateful, vicious, and heartless person that she is.If you thought that maybe her comments about the "Jersey Girls" were insensitve or, more appropriately, sickening, then you should see what she said about Princess Diana shortly after the woman's death.Realizing that Ann Coulter is a vile and horrible person does not make you unpatriotic, it does not make you a terrorist sympathizer, and it does not make you a sissy. It makes you a thinking person who can see the obvious.

This is a great introduction to demographics. It provides a easy to read introduction. It is still a college textbook. The author integrates humor into the text, which certainly kept me reading. Infotrac was completely worthless. It was a password to a three-month trial of access to databases. I already have access to databases through other sources, school and the library. ... Read more

As one reads the various customer reviews, it becomes obvious that the commentary in this book is skewed sharply to the right. Conservatives think it's "fair and balanced"; liberals don't. That's a tell tale sign as far as 24 TV news networks are concerned.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disturbing, eye-opening, but not sold
Ruppert's book pulls a lot of stuff together -- maybe in the end, too much. I was weary of it after 590 pages, and his concluding argument "summation to the jury" was to me the weakest chapter in the book. Perhaps it is just not possible, yet, to boil down Peak Oil, Patriot Act shenanigans, govt complicity in 9-11, PROMIS software and the kitchen sink into a single Theory of Everything. However, the author deserves a high grade for trying and is certainly worth reading.
5-0 out of 5 stars Superb Detailed Analysis of World Events + 9/11
Crossing the Rubicon was one of the first books I read in this subject area, but I've subsequently realised it is the best. Michael Ruppert was someone I found out about when, like many, I tried finding out about the realities of 9/11 and the politics and manoeuvring behind the scenes. I watched one of his lectures delivered at a University in which he covers, at a high level, all the major topics addressed in Crossing the Rubicon.
5-0 out of 5 stars Scholarly, brilliant work
Michael Ruppert's book, "Crossing the Rubicon" rips veil after veil away from your eyes. It is well written and well edited, and flows along briskly. I couldn't put it down. His ideas are backed up by hundreds of footnotes, which serve as a springboard for your own research. If you are happy in a make-believe world, don't bother reading this book. If you want to take the "red pill" and see the matrix, buy this book. I am recommending it to every one I can. Entertaining and horrifying at the same time. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and dishonest.
I expected to agree with this book. The idea of the media and educational establishment deliberately corrupting America is entirely plausible to me, so I was looking forward to hearing Kupelian's case.

Kupelian knows of what he speaks.Straight forward and factual this book covers many facets of the snow job we are being sold in America via the courts and the media.A great guide on how to answer objections to the liberal left's agenda.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Eye Opening. . .
As a parent of five children and very concerned about their future in America I found this book to be very thorough in what is happening to our culture.I found David Kupelian did an excellent job in untangling every topic.I found myself very stressed out after reading each chapter because it is so thought provoking and actually disturbing to have the truth presented in such a way.I would highly recommend this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Chronicles of anti-Christian bigotry
How can someone possibly manage to fill a 400-page book with example after example of Christians being persecuted in the United States? Only if there happens to be a whole lot of cases of Christian persecution. And that is just what Limbaugh demonstrates in this frightening but much-needed book.
1-0 out of 5 stars Forgive them, Father for the Conservatives know not what they do....
Yes, I am a Christian, and I believe in all of the teachings of christianity. But I do not support the conservative's constant attack of democratic liberals.... it's the simple example of stereo-typing. I can garantee there are millions of atheist conservative republicans... I used to have a friend who was. This book is trying to make democrats look bad by using the atheists of the left against them. That's similar to Southern Black discrimination... everyone tought they were lower and disgusting because they used to be slaves. But that wasn't what they were on the inside.
5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful book about the oppression of Christianity
Persecution: How Liberals are Waging War Against Christianity by David Limbaugh is the book that liberals should be worried about. While Ann Coulter's Godless is getting all the press, it's this book that should have them shaking in their shoes.Limbaugh doesn't use hysterical vitriolic name-calling to get his point across, he uses facts and builds his case slowly, brick by brick. He's like a prosecutor bringing forth each piece of evidence and allowing the jury to see it and listen to each witness and allowing them to make their own judgment. Many of the cases do quote the same lawyers again and again, but that really can't be helped when there are only a few groups defending the rights of Christians to express their views. The book shows case after case in schools, workplaces, and the government in which Christianity is not just being suppressed but oppressed. The good news that in many of the actual court cases, the court upheld the rights of Christians. The bad news is that most people don't bring court cases, they just quietly fold up and give in.These court cases are the exception proving the rule, and the liberals are going to continue pushing and pushing because they know that most people will give in without a fight.Limbaugh also does a great job at the end of the book proving that America was founded on Christian principles by Christian men who never intended for Christianity to be hounded out of American life. This is a good book for everyone to read. It's one of the few books that just might change people's minds. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A book about two topics: pardon and donation.
I listened to the audio version of this book. While most of the things said in this book may be true, it appears a bit biased. In addition to facts, the author uses some adjectives which show her personal dislike of the famous couple.
3-0 out of 5 stars FAILING TO CROSSOVER
"The much talked about Marc Rich pardon has become an appropriate symbol of the entire eight years, but Mrs. Olson does a commendable service by clearly detailing the effrontery of his (Rich's) misdeeds, and an even more skillful demonstration of the President's specious and insulting attempt to justify this shocking act. To add fuel to her raging fire, she quotes former President Jimmy Carter who openly stated "I don't think there is any doubt that some of the factors in his pardon were attributable to his large gifts. In my opinion that was disgraceful."
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and bloody right!
All of you Clinton lovers should actually learn to not turn the blind eye on many of these things Clinton did during his presidency. The last few minutes before he was impeached.

Editorial Review

In the first of his three debates with George W. Bush, 2004 presidential candidate John Kerry argued against the war in Iraq not by directly condemning it but by citing the various ways in which airport and commercial shipping security had been jeopardized due to the war's sizable price tag. In so doing, he re-framed the war issue to his advantage while avoiding discussing it in the global terrorism terms favored by President Bush. One possible reason for this tactic could have been that Kerry familiarized himself with the influential linguist George Lakoff, who argues in Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Is Framing really the issue?
I came to the 'Elephant' book by way of O'Reilly's Culture Warrior. I'm not one to be spoon fed something without checking out details, if they are provided. O'Reilly provides plenty of names, events, organizations for someone like me to verify the truth or 'stretch' or a point.

George Lakoff's advice and efforts to help John Kerry in the election really worked out well. It's obvious Lakoff is dispensing the same wonderful advice to the DNC Chair Howard Dean. As an Independent conservative I am thrilled with George Lakoff's work. Thanks, Georgie

Winning Elections is a compilation of articles that have been assembled by Editor, Ronald Faucheux. As a newcomer to politics I found this book to be especially informative. It is about processes and strategies that campaigns employ. This book, however, is not a beginner's book. It is not about building a campaign, or learning the nuts and bolts of campaigns. It is much more than that. This book is meant to build upon existing skills that successful managers and consultants are doing. In reality, there are not set right or

1-0 out of 5 stars Socialism
This book would be better titled as "Moving Towards Socialism: America's turn to try the worst social/economic system ever devised."
3-0 out of 5 stars War on Terror Chapter is Buried in Back of Book
Rahm Emanuel and Bruce Reed do not even deal with terrorism, the greatest threat to the citizens of the United States, until page 148!This would be hysterically funny if the stakes were not so high. Neither the Daily Kos nor George Soros are ever mentioned in the entire book. The authors are very well aware that disingenuous pacifism pervades the Democratic Party.Sadly, they are doing their best to hide the truth from the American people. Did they actually think they could get away with it?

5-0 out of 5 stars This book should scare anyone
This is the first book I have read by Miniter.I have followed foriegn policy and terrorism since the late 70's.I felt I knew quite a bit of what there was to know about terrorism and foriegn policy but this book should scare anyone.I think it is illustrative of some of the depths of depravity terrorists will descend to and how they drag those without the intestinal fortitude to stand up to them down with them.
1-0 out of 5 stars Damage Control for the current President
I found this book to be based on a kernel of truth wrapped in innumerable layers of unconfirmable speculation (how many people really have access to intelligence agency archives?) and one-sided 'analysis'.It is clear the Bin Ladin was 'lost' at Tora Bora when our troops were called back to garrison, allowing him to escape. This goes even farther to the right than Micheal Moore goes to the left.
4-0 out of 5 stars Open-and-shut case indictment of Clinton's lack of interest in WOT
The author, Richard Miniter, provides a fair treatment of the Clinton adminstration's lack of going after terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden and lays out his case in a 241-page book, entitled "Losing bin Laden: How Bill Clinton's Failures Unleashed Global Terror." The title is a bit of a stretch, since President Clinton alone cannot be blamed for what happened on 9/11/01. But according to his ex-advisor, Dick Morris, Mr. Clinton never wanted to lead the charge to bring bin Laden and his Islamofascist minions to justice because he was acutely aware of how the American public would perceive his use of the military, and even refusing a Sudanese offer to take bin Laden into custody because of a short-sighted belief that there was nothing to pin on the Saudi-born terrorist. Miniter disagrees with this inaction.

This is a very good overview of nationalism.Following other scholars, notably the pioneering work of Carlton Hayes and Hans Kohn in the 1930s, Hobsbawm point of departure is the fact that nationalism in the modern sense is a recent phenomenon, arising prinicipally in the 19th century and often as the produce of state formation in that era.Hobsbawm covers the history of nationalist ideas from the early 19th century onward, describing the evolution of nationalist ideas from their association with liberal political movements to their later association with the right, indeed, the fascist right.Hobsbawm covers also the basic historiography as well. The primary theme is the social construction of nationalism, often as a state mediated process with developing states using nationalist ideas to increase social cohesion.Hobsbawm also points out how nationalist ideas often arise from confrontation with others, an increasingly common experience as 19th and 20th century Europe saw increasing contact with others from differing ethnicities and religions as the world economy promoted large population movements and novel information about others.Written with Hobsbawm's typical combination of broad erudition and solid prose, this is an engaging and instuctive book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hobsbawm places nationalism in its historical context
We ordered this book as a reading for our 'Old Curmudgeons Book Club'. The book club is made up of a small bunch of 'older guys', i.e. in their 50s and 60s. We get together once a month and disucss non-fiction books. We've been doing this for about 15 years now. The book has to have something important to say about the human condition. Since nations and nationalism play such an important role in the 20th and 21st centuries, we thought it important to get a better handle on this.Hobsbawm's book helps us to understand the incredibly short time that nations and nationalisms have played a big role in the human experience. It is essentially a 19th century invention and yet it has become such a part of our thinking - e.g. the notion of the inviolability of national sovereignty, the whole business of being an 'American', Briton, Australian, etc. which is such an important part of self identity. One piece of information I found to be astonishing is the statement that at the time of the founding of modern 'Italy',in the mid 19th century, only 2.5% of the population in the territory now known as Italy spoke Italian.Hobsbawm's book then, helps to put into perspective the whole notion of nation and nationalism and helps us to be a bit more critical and more sceptical (suspicious perhaps) when political leaders appeal in language such as 'My fellow Americans', or 'Canadians believe that...', etc. Oh yeah? (What's America? What's Canada, etc.?It helps us to recall Samuel Johnson's famous and useful phrase 'Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel'.Of course, we can get into debates about the difference between 'nationalism' and 'patriotism' but, for my money, they're pretty much the same thing and both are based on unexamined assumptions.Hobsbawm's book will get you thinking about these issues.
1-0 out of 5 stars Corrupted analysis
You'll never get the straight story about nationalism out of Eric Hobsbawm, who himself appears to try to reconcile his own ethnic identity with the topic.David Pryce-Jones once noted that in Hobsbawm's own autobiography: "he [Hobsbawm] boasts of a visit to Bir Zeit University on the West Bank to display solidarity with the Palestinians. Why Palestinian nationalism is valid, and Jewish nationalism invalid, is something else Hobsbawm fails to analyze and explain. Quite crudely, he approves of nationalism in countries which proclaim themselves Communist and anti-American, like Cuba or Vietnam, while rejecting nationalism in countries which are not Communist and are pro-American, like Israel" ([...], Jan. 3, 2003).

I don't have any real hope that Mr. Powell will see this, but just in case, I have something to say to him.Sir: I remember your work--I bootlegged it when I worked at Kinko's in the early 80s.By then you probably already regretted your efforts.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book
The material covered is fascinating if you enjoy the idea of making "cool" things from household products. The material is dated but an awesome book nonetheless.

1-0 out of 5 stars Seriously...
This book is accurate as a blind folded archer spun 3 times in a game of pinata. There is no real useful info in this book, you'd get more tactics out of a Steven Seagal film. This book should be taken out of print before some dummy hurts themselves. If you're interested in learning the tricks of the trade buy a surplus field manual (FM), Watch Discovery Channel, or Join the Military or some Government agency. Billy Powell was a very misinformed hippie. The part that gave it all away was the part about the M-1 Garand. "Used in both World Wars and Korea" WW2 and Korea yes, WW1 no. I think its luck of some higher power that this dummy didn't hurt himself in the process. ... Read more

Look again at the title of this book: it's not a question, but a statement. "America is the greatest, freest, and most decent society in existence," writes Dinesh D'Souza. "American life Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The West vs. the rest
What a surprise. From the title and cover art I was expecting a 4th of July - My country `tis of thee - stand at attention and salute book full of patriotic drivel. But this is a very substantial and thoughtful study of America's institutions and its critics. And the author has a gift for straightforward, easy to understand exposition.

Alaister Cooke became famous in Britain via his regular broadcasts termed 'Letter from America", whereby he attempted to explain current events within America to a British audience.
5-0 out of 5 stars AMERICA FROM AN IMMIGRANTS POINT OF VIEW
This is a smooth, easy and short read. D'souza ideas have a nice and consistant flow to them that makes this a pleasure to read with out making this a war-n-peace dissertation on some of the cultural warfare present in our day.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ought to be a documentary about this
This story isn't told as much as it needs to be. I knew things were bad in some parts of the church, but some of the details here will positively floor you. After years of putting problem-priests and others into the administrative side of the house, this habit resulted in a seminary system that rewards radicalism and false teachers. Examples: a seminary class which taught wiccanism at the request of a student who planned to practice it as a catholic priest; a nun who spoke to others about her "upcoming" ordination as a priest (she and others planned to go through with the idea); a seminary in Maryland so gay it was nicknamed Pink Palace: they used to load up the cars and cruise the gay bars on Friday nights. There are several instances, probably still occuring, where men who wanted to become priests were rejected because they were not gay. Our church cannot afford to have the inmates running the asylum, as this book illustrates was, and perhaps still is, the case in many semenaries.
5-0 out of 5 stars HOMOSEXUAL UNDERCULTURE STILL PRESENT!!
Many priests in the "know" have said that this book must be taken with a grain of salt.Unfortunately, they don't know how true Mr. Rose's book is.The previous review mentioned a seminary in Indiana.I happen to know for a fact that this seminary has a homosexual underculture manifested and the rector and vice-rector are indifferent and think nothing of expelling good, holy and orthodox seminarians while advancing the gay culture.Sure, they put on a good act of piety, but they demoralize, rob the dignity and integrity of the good seminarians and push the development of the "evil".Yes, evil is still thriving in our seminaries.I know, I have experienced it.I was a seminarian in this seminary for 2 years.

5-0 out of 5 stars YES ITS STILL GOING ON!!!
I entered seminary last year and believe me, if you aren't part of a clique or kiss up to the formation staff of this seminary in Indiana, then look out for some not very nice surprises during the annual evaluation. This happened to a good, orthodox, holy seminarian (who because he didn't play the political game) was given a bad evaluation and he left the seminary sadly disillusioned and heartbroken. The formation staff never took into consideration the good he did.....untiringly faithful as head sacristan and heading up the teams to deliver wood to the poor on weekends.Yet, there are gay seminarians here...who are deemed ready for ordination who are out visiting priests who they became good friends with while they were here and they are propositioning them. So, yes, good holy men are still being told to tone down their "piety" while the "gay cruising" seminarians advance to the highest heights. Then they wonder why they leave the priesthood after a few years. Its sad, but true. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Buy the Earlier Edition
Great book, but the cover is insulting.A pile of quarters? How does that represent Ayn Rand's message? The earlier edition had striking, gloriously stylized, inspiring art on the cover. This one has a plain, naturalistic pile of quarters to represent the vision of an idealist and a passionate romantic? If Ayn were alive, she'd read the publisher the riot act over this cover.
1-0 out of 5 stars It Didn't Work
In its time, Rand's vision was intoxicating. We are now living in a reality where big business pretty much influences everything in our lives, and the society that it has produced isn't exactly what Rand envisioned. The idea of an unrestrained capitalism sounds wonderful as a philosophy. But in truth, it's just as dangerous as total government control: Exxon Mobil, Walmart, etc. are not businesses, but institutions with power over our every day lives.I don't think that this is the world that Rand intended, but it's the outcome of her philosophy. Her efforts, while noble, have proven to be a failure.
5-0 out of 5 stars Capitalism vs Socialism
Although Rand is no where near the philosopher Robert Nozick (google him for more info) is, this is an interseting book to read when looking for the moral justification of capitalism.

4-0 out of 5 stars GONNA DEPLOY? BUY THIS BOOK.
This is a great book to get your feet wet. It introdues this historical characters both current players and past. Given this context it is a great spring board for other texts into researching the Middle East and interesting religious, cultural and political concepts in the Middle East.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad for a Starter
This book, like all of the ones in this series I'm guessing, really is for those who don't know much about the subject.I would not recommend it to those who have read a history of the region and have been staying abreast of current events. This volume is, however, useful for anyone who is only just begining to study the Middle East--I would heartily recommend it to a high school student for instance. There are some mispellings and inaccuracies.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Story Behind the Story
I bought this book as sort of a starting point to read other books about the current Middle East mess, and found it to be quite informative; provides a number of maps and pictures to show the layout of the region's past, and brings the reader up to date (though it's ever-changing) on the turmoil going on there now.The Middle East for Dummies, however, is not just Bullets Over Baghdad; it contains information about it's colorful culture throughout the years, and serves well as a reference guide, whether, as other posts state, it is biased or not. ...
