An industry primer
This was my college text for Broadcasting in 1984/85 and I taught Radio Production from this book. I am a video editor (Avid) and a freelance audio engineer having mixed/recorded over 500 music performances. I STILL reference this book. It is easy to understand, direct and thorough; maybe the only textbook you might keep.

See Your Son or Your Students Here
The library at the college where I work puts out a list of new books they have purchased in our area once per month, and this book was on the psychology list back in January.I thought it looked interesting and picked it up then, thinking it might have some good things to say about a book I'm writing about men and depression.I finally picked it up and started reading it last week, and finished it in less than a week.I really enjoyed the authors' styles of writing which made some of the technical information more accessible and easier to understand, which to me means it would be a great resource for students studying education and for parents of boys of all ages.
A teacher's review
More informative than 'Boys and Girls Learn Differently,' 'The Minds of Boys' is a fascinating look into the specific reasons why boys are doing so poorly in school nowadays. Very, very awfulif you did not know - Boys are the overwhelming majority of special education students, are more likely to drop out, and are much less likely to attend college.
A needed step forward for boys:
I really sympathize with Michael Gurian.I felt much the same way about the failures of the industrialized education system in the 1950s that he described a couple of decades later.It's set up to fail boys, and has gotten worse over the past several decades as men teachers have been driven out.

Scary and sad
I bought this book because I do not want to hate Bush. As a recovering member of AA, I wanted to know more about him, because I doubt he has ever set foot into an AA meeting. If he had done so and truly grasped the concepts, he would not be doing the things he does.

Well, first off, I have to admit to not having read the book, but I heard this nitwit on The Randi Rhodes Show this afternoon, and within about a minute I nearly lost control of the car I was laughing so hard.Something about the young G.W. Bush getting off torturing small animals and shoving hot pieces of steel up their rectums.But he's a famous doctor - who am I to question his diagnoses?
Serious Work
This is not just your usual Bush bash - it is a serious work by a well respected professional. If you find The Toxic Texan's thoughts and actions inexplicable and want to make some sense of it all, read this book. This is probably the best book I have read on why/how this man operates. It explains why Bush cannot speak when talking about subjects requiring understanding or compassion - but he never gets it wrong when he's talkin' tough.

Opens with Summary, Good Series, May Underestimate Cheney
By virtue of being an organized series of past short columns, most two pages to three pages in length, this book may be off-putting to the average reader, but for either insiders or those who care deeply about moral legitimate governance, this is a real page turner.

Student view of research
I am so pleased to have had the opportunity to study this book. It is extremely well wtitten, has explicit examples and provides a menu of wonderful supplimentary materials. Johnson and Christensen have reached the perfect meld of professional presentation and comprehensible material. Not only that, they are accessible for further elaboration. I recently ordered this book to use with my students. I am a special education consultant primarily working with students that have Asperger's syndrome or traumatic brain injury in a public school setting. Whatever
If you want to rid yourself of your neighbor's well-trained, powerful, vicious guard dog, don't send Mickey Mouse to do the job. Coulter writes so far above Maguire's head, he shouldn't be questioning her brain power.If liberals really want to do some damage to Coulter, they should stop offering up cannon-fodder.

Excellent
An earlier review of this book reads "Notice that this rag has 11 reviews, whereas Ann's actual book has over 1800."That's the same one sidedness that Ann has tried to promote throughout her career- she's popular so she must be right.Maguire rips Coulter and her arguments to shreds, showing time and time again where she lambasts the liberal perspective for doing one thing and then defends the conservatives for doing the same thing.(See the chapter "Ann Has it Both Ways") He shows how out of touch Ann is with the common man:Unlike Michael Moore, who is criticized for criticizing the upper class while he has gone on to become a wealthy man, Ann was BORN INTO wealth and privelage rather than Moore who was BORN INTO the working class life of Flint, Michigan.Maguire debunks Coulter over and over again, revealing her to be the arrogant, racist, lying, hateful, vicious, and heartless person that she is.If you thought that maybe her comments about the "Jersey Girls" were insensitve or, more appropriately, sickening, then you should see what she said about Princess Diana shortly after the woman's death.Realizing that Ann Coulter is a vile and horrible person does not make you unpatriotic, it does not make you a terrorist sympathizer, and it does not make you a sissy.It makes you a thinking person who can see the obvious.

Understanding and Using English Grammar (Third Edition)
I have used this outstanding book with international students for several years, but it would be helpful if the Answer Key were available from Amazon.

Grammar is difficult
With this book is it possible to learn the english grammar.
Clear and easily understandable
The geniuses that controlled my education decided that I should skip fourth grade reading because they caught me reading Mark Twain in third grade. I can't imagine what in the WORLD they were thinking, as I came to learn years later that in fourth grade reading they taught - you guessed it - grammar! And boy, did I suffer. My written grammar was absolutely horrendous for years, and even though I continued to be placed in advanced or honors English classes throughout high school, whenever my papers were returned to me the "concept" side came back with an A, and the "grammar" side came back with a D or an F.Read more

Fun book!
Who ever knew fashion could be so scandalous? As one who is not so fashion savvy, Alicia Drake's book told of a world quite its own, while entertaining me with the drama of the two powers colliding.

Very Explicit, Detailed and Valuable!
Paget's "How to be a great lover" provides a lot of explicit and detailed instructions, and descriptions. She discussed a broad spectrum of topics from sexually transmitted diseases to oral and manual stimulation. My husband and I are experienced and for us most of the information was not something new. We did learn new things however and it was nice to read a book written by so experienced and genuinely interested in sex woman. We would like to recommend as well scientist Ritz' bestseller "Scientfically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex" because it provides breakthrough information, which made a great difference for us in bed.

worth reading
I just bought this book a few days ago after reading the positive reviews.It was definitely worth reading!The best part about the book is the tone she uses.It really does come across as girlfriend-to-girlfriend.It's not clinical (which is a turn-off) or condescending in tone - she doesn't act like a sex guru speaking down to the plebian undersexed.She's very encouraging and her main goal is to give you confidence as a lover.

Terrific synopsis of the classic historical writings on power.
This book is a no holds barred open discussion of raw power, entertainingly presented.It took me a little while to get over the almost completely amoral tone of the book, but I eventually got the sense that the amoral tone is there for a purpose: to clue you in to the fact that people who practice power at this level can often be completely amoral themselves.In that sense, the book truly gives the reader a sense of the mindset of those who will do anything to stay in power. There is a sense as one reviewer pointed out, that the book could have been written without this amoral tone, but then one would miss out on the opportunity of being immersed in its sense of amorality, which is an education in itself.Experiencing the amorality is a wakeup call that offers insight into how some of the world's ills have come to pass, though you may find yourself wanting to shower afterward.After reading it, you will definitely be more aware of the laws being played out on the world stage, and you will begin to recognize people in government who seem to be using it as a playbook.Some laws are even applicable in personal relationships...a scary thought.

Best book ever

What is hypercolor and tutleback?
I was fairly interested in this Bible but could not find any details on just what Pink, Hypercolor and Turleback was all about.Also that it came with a slipcover but showed this Bible in Blue, Green, and Pink.It would be helpful if an explanation of how it was different, other than in just color and how you could get something other than pink.

Youth need it in their words
I'm a youth pastor in a small church in Rural Ontario Canada, I'm building up a youth group mostly out of un-churched kids from brocken homes. They need the bible in the language they can understand and relate to. One girl came to Christ this past week as she read from her families 40 pound family bible I translated using my message re-mix and she accepted Christ . one response as I read from her was "oh thats what that means?"

In response to those who had nothing but nasty to say about this version of the Bible: Any Bible is better than no Bible at all.It's hard for those of us with no trouble reading to understand what it's like for anyone who has problems with it.Even the "easy to read" translations like the NIV or the NLT can be intimidating to people having trouble reading.The Message makes the meaning clear without being overly complicated to read.

Disappointing generalities
A colleague thought I would enjoy this book, and I understand why.Cultural relativism is usually intersting.It is not uncommon for pop business books to feel like overextended magazine articles...that's not all bad.But I must say, this book seems to me to be an overextended chart of cultural differences...and the author didn't even provide a chart; instead he provides meandering prose.I realize I'm in the minority in terms of reviews, but this book is at best mediocre.It is superficial and not informative.But please note: I have only read 100 pages of this 200 page tome.I didn't want to waste anymore time so I recycled the book.
