4-0 out of 5 stars if I can read
My Englisjh is terrible, so if I can read this book (and I do), this is a goodand simple book.
4-0 out of 5 stars The Elements of Boat Strength: For Builders, Designers, and Owners
Its a good book but I can imagine some difficulties to people not affine with this subject.
5-0 out of 5 stars Putting Your Time Where It Counts
As a person developing a design, I want to put my time into developing hull form, keel, etc., not into hours and hours of calculations about structure which for the moment serve no other purpose than the creation of a plausible weight estimate to be used in Velocity Prediction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Trains Across the Continent: North American Railroad History
This is an excellent depiction of American railroading. The addition of some U.S. History makes this superbly interesting. Whether a railroad or history buff (or not), this reading will grab your attention. The light humor also adds to the enjoyment of this book. Filled with very interesting facts on how the early railroads actually created & perfected many of the technologies we know today. You won't want to put this book down once you start reading it! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Two
If you're brave enough to take on the care, maintenance, and/or restoration of an old VW bus, this book, along with John Muir's How To Keep Your Volkswagen Alive, is a must-have.While Muir provides the how-to, the Official Service Manual provides the what and where one needs to care for an old VW.I've owned a lot of them (VWs and books).Get this one up-front and save yourself a lot of grief.

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful, Recommended, but with Caveats
This book has its uses.If you have a need to do moderately extensive work on your VW yourself, it's probably wise to have this book in your shop. It's inferior to John Muir's classic Idiot's Guide (ISBN 0945465122 ) in terms of providing effective ways of repairing your VW (not to mention less fun), but it works well as a supplement to the Idiot's Guide. It's a good secondary reference when using the Idiot's Guide as a primary manual for maintenance & repair. For instance, the Service Manual will often contain illustrations of tiny parts within parts that are lacking in the Idiot's Guide, which can be useful when trying to visualize how things fit together. When something goes wrong, turn to the Idiot's Guide first; when you want a little more padding to get your head around a problem, the Service Manual is often just the ticket. In short, something to keep in the garage rather than in the bus (as you should do at all times with the Idiot's Guide).Highly recommended for this purpose.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad Reference!!
This book is chock full of errors. I don't have any faith in the contents of this book. Color codes of wires are incorrect in troubleshooting areas, and there is poor coverage of all model years, especially newer ones. The book tells you what fault codes are but it does not tell you how to access them. I own two Hondas and I end up using the internet to get the information this book, more often than not, neglects to include. Purchase at your own risk -- it's too bad that it is the only book on the market for many Honda models.

3-0 out of 5 stars Better than Hays
This is a fair book. Deffinatly better than Hays. Where hays explanes things in one sentence Chilton uses an entire paragraph. However it does not contain all the diagnosis I wanted and it is plagued with misprints andoccasionaly contridicts itself.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor graphics, lack of detail, poor coverage of all models.
This was disappointing. The "Total Car Care" repair manual had non-detailed drawings instead of photos leaving you with only a vague idea of where the part that you are looking for is in relation to the rest ofyour car.The text was about as good as the graphics... it could have beenmore detailed and/or descriptive.Another probelm was that the graphicsgave only a single example of the procedure being described (as shown forthe '84-'87 CRX... not very helpful to orient you to a 95 Civic).Comparedto the other manuals that I have seen (Haynes and Clymer mostly) this oneleft alot to be desired at about twice the price. This one will give you aballpark idea of what you will need to do to fix your Honda, but I wouldconsider purchasing a single-model specific repair manual at a cheaperprice. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Givem Hell Harry
This man comes up with so many unique ways to do thing the best way possible. I went out and bought some other books he wrote that are out of date now just because he write them so well. Could I write this well I would have at least a pulitzer or maybe an Oscar. PS I owned several copies of his books that were burned up in ahouse fire. I just had to have them to read over and over. They stay out on the coffee table. I have yet to see anyone not finish the chapter they are on before they can put the book down to do other things. I have been late more than once.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very good book for plywood boat building
I found this book to be very helpful. It makes boat building accesible to almost anyone. But I wish there were more photos, especially of finished boats.I decided to build the Nymph, the 7' 9" pram design featured in this book. Then I decided I wanted a beamier (wider) boat so I built the wider version of the Nymph, called the Rubens Nymph (Please note: The Rubens Nymph is not featured in this book, only the Nymph is).I did not buy plans, but just widened the bottom and transoms of the Nymph, and used thicker plywood for the frames. So boats can be built from this book without plans, but if I did it again I would get the plans...especially for any of the larger boats.
5-0 out of 5 stars Essential boatbuilding
This is the best book ever written on making small boats for rowing or sailing using modern techniques. If you always figured you would like to build a boat, but were worried about making a success of it, this book, or the others in his series will ensure you get the job done.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hot Rod Pin Ups
I love this book.It shows fashion from various eras and adds the rough style of classic cars. The history is a good added bonus, but the pictures are more interesting to look at.Very colorful and exciting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Take it with you on your next flight
I've been flying ever since I can remember but never understood why the cabin crew ask you to open window blinds prior to landing.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must-read for anybody who likes to travel
Kudos to Patrick for writing a very accessible, funny, and eye-opening account of what happens at 30,000 feet, and all the steps along the way. His stories about the old days of flying will entice anybody who still gets excited about airplanes and airports (in a good way). It's refreshing to hear such an articulate and empathic voice come from inside the airline industry. No doubt he's going to be attacked by the many things he says, as he's written one of the most impressive and clear-headed accounts of post-9/11 security hysteria and what it has done to the industry and our country as a whole. This book should be given to all air travelers in lieu of pretzels and headsets. It would do a ton of good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Answers From The Pilot
Upset stomach, sweaty palms, nervous knots. What was that?!?That noise, what was that?!Oh my God, we are going to crash! That clunking noise had to be something bad. That isn't a normal sound.Sound like you?On alert the entire flight listening to all sounds, thinking that the next one is going to bring upon a horrible death.I can relate. That was me times six.I had created my own answers to the "what was that?" questions. They were consistently that a part must have been malfunctioning or had fallen off (for such a substantial noise to have occured, it had to be a MAJOR part too). This part was essential to my living or dying.

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY Good
Have NOT finished but I can see this is a very well thought out book. For instance, the content page contains a thumbnail to identify the car: Great idea, for quick ref. if you do not know the model name/number.The index is full, the trailers show races won in order. The details of each is large and althought I cannot vouch for all accuracy of info. the items I DID know were accurate enough. The book is small, and compact enough to keep along with you....kind of like a bird-watchers field manual.

First and foremost I am a die hard Queen Mary Fan.
5-0 out of 5 stars A superlative book about the ship's construction and art.
This book will captivate you. It bears reiterating how superb the photographs, art, and text are in this book. This is WAY more than a coffee table book, and it does its subject justice.5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Ship, Beautiful Book
I literally couldn't put this book down after starting it -- Steele has written a fascinating retrospective on this great ship. The book's format is high quality and heavy on photographs, making for a very attractive book. But Steele also does a good job of exploring the ship's history, particularly the design and engineering perspectives.I agree with another reviewer that Steele could have (and probably should have) gone into greater detail on the Queen's post-retirement history as a tourist attraction, and should have addressed the structural and design modifications resulting from that transformation. But this shortcoming detracts very little from an otherwise enjoyable volume on the history of a famous and beloved ship. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Quite a ride!
This is more a "travel writing" book than an RV book, and very interesting reading. My only problem with it is that her writing style was rather jumpy - there might be several subjects and locations in one paragraph, and I often got lost as to where we were and what we were doing...Then it didn't seem to matter, I just enjoyed the ride.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Kick in the Pants!
I bought this book thinking "one day, when we retire, maybe we'll go." The author, "Charlie" as you'll get to know her, makes the trip real. All the details are given, with explanations of what to take, when to go, what to watch out for, and what to see while you're there. More importantly for us, however, was the underlying theme of the book...GO AND DO IT! "Charlie" points out repeatedly, "I did it, so can you." Use some common sense, but GO!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sailing Socialism
Rediker is hardly the only man to notice-though he is one of only a very few to have written on the topic at length-that the Anglo-American Maritime world of the early to mid 18th Century was a socio-political hotbed of burgeoning revolution. To criticize the author for being a Marxist is absurd-the era about which he is writing, and the sailors and specific cultural events of that era, were socialist themselves, though they wouldn't have had the insight to realize it at the time.2-0 out of 5 stars No Quarters given
First off, before you even think about buying this book, understand that is a socioeconomic study of the maritime profession from 1700 to 1750.The book was written by a Marxist who has succumbed to Hollywood's romantic characterization of the Pirate as a misunderstood individual who only wanted his unalienable rights which were withheld by the running dog lackeys of the capitalist pigs who ran the shipping business and the Navy. Even if he had to murder people to get it.3-0 out of 5 stars A Review
This text is interesting and engaging, but Rediker's bias ruins the credibility of his arguments. Rediker is a Marxist historian and therefore provides an extremely slanted view of seafaring men.His thesis is centered on the seaman as a member of the working class, and his struggle to rise in a capitalist system. One example of how his bias has clouded his analysis is in his discussion of alcoholism.Rediker assumes that the resort to alcohol is caused by alienation- this draws obvious parallels to Marx's own work focussed on the alienation of the workers (200).A particularly appalling example of his bias is when Rediker discusses the cruel treatment of seaman by their masters.Rediker then asserts that "when Karl Marx noted that the modern wage labor system could not have emerged without the bloody assistance of the lash, he may well have had the early modern shipping industry in mind" (213 n19).Clearly there is no basis for this statement save his personal beliefs. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book with exhaustive detail
This book contians all the information that anyone could ever need.It also has the best index I have ever seen, making finding the smallest section easy. It does not really cover the basics of each system, but provided you have a basic knowledge then it will build on that.It is up to the reader to decide how much depth they want to go into, this book will take them as far as they could possibly need to go.

2-0 out of 5 stars A collection of disjoint writings
This book was obviously intended for the experienced navigator or system designer. It certainly reviews all of the traditional and modern navigation systems. However, in trying to explain every minute detail, the basic workings of the technology are never explained.2-0 out of 5 stars A collection of disjoint writings

5-0 out of 5 stars Beetle Manual
The manual was clear and to the point. Finding information was not hard. The book had more info than I though it would. It was layed out nicely too.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not quite what I was looking for
I must qualify that I am not a mechanic by training but enjoy doing a lot of the work in our cars. That said I found this manual disappointing in that it really does not offer any kind of help in the maintenance of the car for people with little mechanical training.By "Service Manual" I understood that there would be detailed information of how to do certain things like working on the AC components, transmission, etc, that is more that just changing your oil.It is not there!.It just gives you pictures of part by part components with little descriptions of procedures. I can get the pictures in the Internet! going to a bookstore does no good because this is one of those sealed books until you buy.I just did not like it and will sell it as soon as I can :^(

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Purchase
Very detailed text for repairs and maintenance. Makes even the daunting task relatively easy. To have 5 stars, it should have more detailed pictures. Color would receive a 6th star. Best manual on the market. Worth it 110% ... Read more
