Father of the Queen of the Skies
There have been many books written about the 747, but none of them tell the human side of taking one of the largest aircraft off the drawing board and into the skies in two years time.Joe Sutter is the consumate engineer, he engages you in a voice that keeps you interested all of the way through the book.He does it in such a way that makes you feel that maybe you where there.Boeing bet the company on the 747, if it had been a failure the company would probably be a footnote in history.The company put their trust in one single man, who claims he and Boeing grew up together.Joe also includes the stories of many others along the way, he never takes credit for himself but always makes you aware that it was a team effort.In fact he leads off with a disclaimer that if he remembered it wrong he was sorry.

Not what I needed
I was looking for hardcore material on OBD. I too was fooled by the preview. You can find the same info on the Internet. The book publishers have done a fantastic job of packaging and making an ordinary book with common information look exceptional. What people want to know is how to use the information in the powertrain control module to solve problems. This book simply tells you what's available in OBD 2 not what to do with the info. Pages are devoted to OBD 2 codes that can be found on the Internet. If you need a glossy intro to OBD 2 this is it.

Doesn't deliver the goods
This book doesn't reveal any secrets,or for that matter much information. It is rather long on OBD II theory and has a fairly good chapter on scan tool selection but falls far short in the diagnostic department. I had hoped this book would have information on acceptable sensor values, troubleshooting / diagnostic charts, etc.As far as diagnosis goes, this book is just one small step ahead of a trouble code chart. Since most of the newer scan tools incorporate this information in the tool itself I would recommend that you save the price of this book and apply it to a better tool.

Not what I expected
I thought from reading the sample pages that this book would explain codes and a brief explanation as to what to check for each code. It was more of an overview of ODBII with some details I could use.

Superb.
I have many of the how-to books for motorcycle riding. This is by far the best one.

Buy it, read it, live it!

I suggest this book to anyone interested in geography and history.
I chose this one because I thought it kind of related to me in a way, but I always thought it would be just a bunch of useless fact. As I read it, I became more and more interested in the struggle to 'find the longitude.' I suggest this book to anyone interested in geography and history. It's also an easy reader.
An epic 40 year struggle!
Dava Sobel, like Simon Winchester or Canada's Pierre Berton, has clearly mastered the art of writing history in a form that is not only informative but, perhaps more important, is also compelling and entertaining.

RV Trip Review

helping me understand how a car operates
I changed jobs and became a parts delivery person.The knowledge I have received from the book as helped me in knowing what my customers are talking about and thus can relate messages to the sales staff.For my job and personally, I like knowing what the function of the parts are and where they are located. I am so glad to have the book. It was well written and made learning easy.

Too much old crap and unnecessary info!
The diagrams in the book where nice, but man this guy isn't an author. You can tell he knows what he is talking about but he just uses a lot of lingo. Thankfully, there is a glossary, but it takes too long to look up every word. He just tells you the different parts in mechanisms. He doesn't really explain how anything works. By the way, he has like 5 nicknames for every part. If you are a beginner too complex, if your an expert you probably know this stuff. If you have the money and your an amateur go ahead. If none of the above I wouldn't suggest this book.

No good
The author is an owner and operator of a tutoring center. He is not an expert in auto mechanics.As he points out on the back cover the pictures and the concepts were for teenage boys and the accompanying graphics are of poor quality.

Great Book
A must for all Pilots.
We fly the way we train...
I first read of Rich Stowell in AOPA's Flight Training August 2001 issue, ordered the book, then found his friend's [...] flight school, where I spent an intense five weeks of dual instruction toward my private certificate (winter 2004).As Wolfgang Langewiesche points out in his classic, "Stick and Rudder", airplanes depend more on airflow in whatever direction, and forget about the ground.Rich (and Tim) point this out in discussion of control inputs and outputs, which don't necessarily mesh with the book answers in ground school.Use the latter for the written test, and what is real for the flying.I flew about 26 spin recoveries, 180 landings, and who knows how many stalls and other maneuvers, to the point where I could fly a slip straight ahead, slowly feed in rudder and feel the airplane depart toward a spin, and bring it back from that edge.My Aeronca Champ feels like a completely different airplane after all that Super Decathlon training.Buy the book, but fly the training, too.

This IS a great book.I got the most out of it AFTER taking Module I with it's author.Several weeks later I took Module II and got even more out of the book! OK, but not complete
This book is a lot of fun, but I question some of the hidden Mickeys in the book. Some aren't exactly hidden (the Mickey's in MouseGear at EPCOT, for example) but merely decorations. Other are very questionable and really aren't hidden Mickeys at all (by this I mean, just because there are three circles together doesn't mean they are a Mickey. A true Mickey has one large circle with two smaller circle ears). Other Mickeys are just over looked. For a free list of the Mickeys, you can also just checkout SpaceCoast Hidden Mickeys on the web. Overall, it's a fun book, but don't buy it if you are looking for a real list of the Mickeys.

I really like this book because it is set up that it will be very easy to use on a vacation to the disney parks. I wish that there was a disneyland version of this book

Family Fun
If you have been to Disney a ton of times, This is the book for you. If it's your first time I think you'll enjoy it as well, BUT for you returners get ready to see the park in a hole new light.Whether you're with the kids or just a bunch of fun loving adults you got to try this. The book is set up like a scavenger hunt (for hidden Mickeys) and will give you excellent hints on where to look (with out giving away the exact location) and at the same time show you the best way to see each park. As a 34 year veteran I know my way around and this is just the way I do the parks (for the most part)shortest lines and most attractions covered. The book includes a scoring system witch is great for deciding who is picking up the bill for the next meal. But how ever you do it, it is lots of fun. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did. ... One Hand For Yourself, One Hand For The Ship
THE ANNAPOLIS BOOK OF SEAMANSHIP by John Rousmaniere is the ur-text on sailing used by virtually every sailing school as its primary educational source. Now in its third edition, this eminently readable and well illustrated book is encyclopedic in its scope, crammed full of practical information about sailing vessels, the mechanics of sailing them, and the traditions of sailing. It's a measure of the excellence of THE ANNAPOLIS BOOK OF SEAMANSHIP how familiarly Rousmaniere presents this largely alien topic with its many very specialized terms of art.

This book has some pretty good info and is quite comprehensive and well laid out.If you're going to buy 1 book, let it be this one.That's if you ever get around to reading it (it being so comprehensive and all) it's almost easier to go out sailing than trawl through it's many pages!But a worthwhile reference.

Excellent text book
This book is a valuable resource for students, teachers and Just about the best book available on the subject
I find "Modelling transport" (2nd edition) to be the best available in its field. It covers just about everything a transport modeller has to know and benefits from one of its authors being an academicresearcher and the other a consultant. Both are recognized worldwide asbeing renowned experts, and the fact that one has an academic bias and theother a practical inclination makes the end product just about unbeatable.In recent years it has been the only reference work I have needed toconsult. The title "modelling transport" makes it clear that thebook does not cover economic and other evaluation techniques. I think thatit would be an even better product if it did, considering the closerelation between a transport model and the economic evaluation procedurewhich should be applied to determining the benefits of the networkmodifications it models. Inconsistency between the model and the evaluationcan lead one to doubt the results of the latter. Maybe this point could beaddressed in the third edition.

Airport planner and engineer's viewpoint - updated
The best of its kind for the technical detail. We have most of the other airport and terminal design books on the bookshelf (up to 2005 publication date), but every time we come back to using Horonjeff for the serious design ofnew airports and extensions. It is also good for layout design by theengineer for terminals - although the architects may want more books. But there is another book - the 2003 book titled Airport Systems - Planning, Design and Management by Richard de Neufville and Amedeo Odoni - that will become the definitive text on airport design for the first part of the 21st century. So you'll need both, especially if you have to deal with the complexity of systems and stakeholders that are part of medium to large size airports.

Terrific Book
This text is great and the CD-ROM which lets u take and review practice tests may even better. I was surprised at the effectiveness of the text. All the material was presented in sufficient detail to answer your questions, but no not so detailed as to be burdensome as a college degree. The end result for me was a perfect score on all four sections of the test, but I took a LOT of practice tests. YOU NEED THIS BOOK & CD!

Get Your Captain's License, Third Edition
This new 3rd edition is better than the fist two. It is not a complete guide to all you need to learn to test for a USCG License, but it is a good base.There are still a few corrections needed in the rules that should have been updated for this 3rd edition and not all the study text agrees with the USCG questions.The CD tests is okay for review and gives a good feel of what needs to be studiedfor the USCG exams. Over all makes a great referance and should help anyone looking for a lower level license.

Get Your Captain's License Ed. 3
I received this volume in the mail about two weeks ago and have been hard at work using it to prepare for my exam.While not yet licensed, I have boated and sailed much of my life and am familiar with most of the material in it already.

Best of the best...
I bought this book new from the Smithsonian Museum bookstore when I was just a kid.Now some 20-odd years later it still sits on the shelf right behind my desk, and I still frequently comb through its pages with the same enthusiasm I had when it was new.I will never let this book out of my possesion.
Must Have for WWII Aviation Enthusiasts
If you enjoy WWII aircraft, and appreciate the breath taking detail and accuracy of Rikyu Watanabe illustrations, you must have this book. I found my copy 3 years ago at OshKosh, and have been offered (...)for it - no way was I parting with it. It is, without question, the finest piece of reference / art work on these 12 aircraft I have ever seen. Vet, IFR Priv. pilot, R/C aircraft modeler.

I'm a WWII airplanes enthsiast, and this book has filled all my expectations.The text, the scaled drawings, the fold-out panels, everithing isexceptional in this complete guide of WWII airplanes. Skimming the Surface
This book is a very general view from a very British perspective.I don't think it belongs in Embry-Riddle's graduate programs because it does not meet the needs of experienced professionals.As an undergraduate overview of the systems design process, it is good.However, the author does not even touch helicopters, seaplanes, or lighter-than-air-technology.So, the book would be more aptly named "Introduction to Airplane Design."
No substance
I consider this book to be a rough draft for a much larger book to come (I hope).The author just skims lightly through vast numbers of subjects, so that anyone who knows anything about airplanes will learn nothing new.Yet it isn't written on a basic enough level to have much to offer someone who knows nothing.
