Great Source of Information of Countries and Ports of Entry
This is a well structured book that provides a one stop source of information on port of entry procedures among other thing. However with that said. I have just returned from the Leeward Islands and found the entry procedures have completely changed. No longer do you fly the Q flag and wait, but the skipper can proceed directly to customs and immigrations. Great Book
This is a great book, full of facts.It is very interesting to see the planes as they develop.I enjoyed all the different views supplied by the Airforce, the Engineers, the Pilots and the Government officials.The book cantains some foul language.Very interesting and totally enjoyable.Good technical information.Covers: Stealth, U2 and the Blackbird very well.

The best aircraft designer memoirs I've read to the date
Believe me if a Russian aviation nut goes to bed in 4 A.M. when he could not stop reading this, it really worth buying. Filled with good humor and Kelly Johnson's 'Goddam!'s, it also has an insider look at US aerospace industry decision making, sometimes wery paradoxal. I suspected that titanium for SR-71 was bought in Soviet Union and knew from our industry insiders that we captured D-21 Tagnoard a long time ago, but here I've seen proof from the first hands. I was nearly crying reading about Kelly Johnson death - I didn't know details before - and Lockheed's farewell to him publishing all-black newspaper page with crying Skunk Works skunk...Frankly, Johnson's memoirs were not so intriguinig for me, but now I'll re-read them with the other feelings. Highly recommend.

One day soon, people will begin to claim that putting a man on the moon, safely operating an aircraft like the SR-71 for many years, or, flying daily New York to London supersonic never really happened - centimental people from the 60's just like to think their generation did those things. Without books like this the conspiracy theory would be attractive. Accountants are trained to know the cost of everything. Engineers, on the other hand, are trained to see the value in people and their ideas irrespective of their status. In the 1950s and 60s accountants just did the accounts. But it was a golden age for engineers.

Outstanding
With no doubt this is the best Aerodynamics book for college students ever written...ever!Very clear explanations,full of examples and a good set of exercises to challenge your understanding of the subject. The only negative point is that there no answers to the problems.

Decent textbook
This book needs a good professor to go along with it. The examples have little to do with many things in the text and the book fails to emphasize which concepts are the most important.

Great read for business people
I have been a loyal frequent flyer at Continental since the late 90's, and I have no idea the airlines was that terrible at the early 90's. As a frequent flyer, I admire Continental's plane is always cleaner than other airlines, and the flight attendant attitude is always friendly than others.After reading the book, I understand the reasons.
Great book, Even for Non-Aviation hobbiest~
This is a great book on how Continental emerged from bankruptcy twice. Bethunes punes run throughout the book which make for easy and enjoyable reading. Even for a college student such as myself.

Lessons to be learnt by all industries
The story of continental as depicted in this book is a story of Long term vision, commitment, consistency, and perseverence... The description of what went wrong prior to Gordon's time can be related to any company in any industry.. key lessons can be learnt by all executives: what needs to be done and what needs to be measured for the company to perform. And if you cn't read the couple hundred plus pages of the book, Gordon have summurized all the chapters at the end of the book.

Just finished reading this excellent book on voyaging. The last few reviews left me wondering if the author would really have the experience to write about cruising. SHE DOES!!!
Worth reading
This author has copped criticism for being an inexperienced "yuppie" whose early lifestyle - a lifestyle she now decries as meanginless - helped pay for some easy cruising. This opinion is small minded. The simple fact the book is written by an honest woman gives it a rare and compelling resonance. Any man trying to honestly sell the cruising dream and any woman seeking a fair appraisal of what to expect from that dream will benefit from Bluewater Cruising. Railroading for Fun and Profit
This is the good story of the last forty years of eastern railroad history, written by an author who saw it all from the outside, but also had access to many on the inside.Dirty tricks, skulduggery, political influence were all qualities historians associate with the nineteenth century railroad robber barons.Well, Rush Loving tells you in readable prose that these qualities did not die out with the turn of the twentieth century--or even the twenty-first!
Surprised
The Men Who Loved Trains is certainly a readable book. What surprised me was the fact that the Indiana University Press would publish a book that is relates solely what named and unnamed people told the author. Based upon the acknowledgements that indicate that the author spoke with many of the major players, the tale of the split of CR between CSX and NS is plausible. The earlier history is more shaky. The PRR & NYC merger into PC is a rehash of what has been written long ago in a number of books and newspapers.
A Far More Definitive Text
Best railroad business history book I've ever read. I just re-read The Wreck of the Penn Central and found it dated, sensationalist, and lacking. The Wreck may have been tainted by the authors' direct involvement in breaking a lot of the news coming from Philadelphia financial community, with a certain lack of attention to the business, people and geographies away from that city. The Men Who Loved Trains is far more complete, accurate, and objective. While both books clearly center on the personalities, The Men doesn't attempt to be a hit piece, it is rather a triumph of the positive. While a lot was going wrong with the railroad business in the northeast, the book identifies many of the root causes and concentrates on the solutions, the successes, and the learnings from the setbacks. ... A must-have
This beautifully presented large hardback is actually a series of essays covering the story of the search for Longitude from the 16th century to the 19th. The essays deal with a range of subjects from the mathematical to the absurd, from astronomy to cartography and has 4 excellent appendices. The book is well laid out with both black&white and color photography in a manner that means you don't need to be a student of the sea of chronology to understand it. A good book to have on the shelf.

Excellent book focused on the Longitude act's of the 1700's.The primary emphasis is on the two technologies Lunar-distance and chonometer for determining longitude with a precision under 1 degree. The relative percentages are: 50% chonometer, 30% lunar distance, 10% Jupiter's moons, 10% general history pre-1600's.I gave it four stars instead of 5 because I thought the book was going to be a balanced discussion ( i.e. equal time)encompassing all methods of determining longitude irrespective of a 1 degree precision. All that said, I would still recommend the book to anyone interested in the topic.

This review is top notch and comprehensive.It's the book of choice to cover the background and the technology.I'm not a watch or clock fanatic, but I slam dunked this whole book in just a couple days; a 15 hour Qantasflight kept me captive.I wish there was more discussion on the nature ofastronomy and how the clocks were calibrated.I want to read up onoctants, sextants and basic navigation now.This book deserves five stars. Not just for boat building!
I bought this book because I wanted to prepare myself for building a boat in 2007, next year.In reading through it, I learned that what is covered is not just how to build a boat, but really more about how to finish a boat.

GERMAN PERFECTION
Let me confess right off, I absolutely love cars designed by Porsche, I have always found the car to be sexy and elegant.When i see someone pull up next to me in a Carerra with the top down, I just sit and stare with envey.As for this book, it is quite simply fantastic, it is easy to read and well researched, almost scholarly and the images are crisp and well placed throughout the book.You see the evolution of the automaker and get a real feel for what has made the company so successful.If you have any interest in Porsche or just cars in general, then I highly recommend this book...pricy yes, but well worth it...the car and this book.

The Car Design Yearbook 4
This volume continues the format and quality of volumes 1-3, with the same strengths (beautiful photos, appealing coffee table appearance, etc.) and weaknesses (commentary isn't always helpful; every car gets about the same depth of coverage, whether it's a production-ready Fiat or an amazing concept car). If you liked the earlier editions, you'll enjoy this one too.

This is one of the coolest yearbooks around, especially if you like to stay updated on cars that came out last year. These books are excellent reference for years to come.

Interesting and informative
Mongello is a long time Disney World fan who has written a trivia book that will give the reader a lot of information that the typical guidebook will not. Of particualr interest to me was info on the age of some of the attractions as well as some history on popular attractions that are no longer a part of Disney World(such as 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Mr. Toad;s Wild Ride, etc).

A well-written, wide-ranging book
This is a well-written book which ranges in presentation of shipwrecks and their treasures from ancient wrecks to a few 20th century ships (Titanic, Bismark). Lots of adventure and tales of the search for treasure ships without getting bogged down in minutae. The ships range through time since man began plying the seas and across the world. I really enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it to you. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I would have liked MORE pictures.
