College type text book
I recommend this book because it covers all the material for the Private Pilot license in an easy to understand manner.It is full of colored pictures and important concepts in bold print.This is a great book for studying to become a private pilot.

I used it, now my students do.
Yes, I know it's pricey. Think of it as an investment. Buy it. End of story.

Excellent book, execpt 1 thing!
Overall the book was great, it gave me my pilots license but the 1 thing the book didn't do so well on was the weather section. I had trouble understanding the weather theory section so I had to refrence another book so I could learn about the weather. Great book for pirate lovers - parents of easily frightened young ones should take caution
I bought this for my 4 year old son who LOVES pirates right now after viewing the first "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie and seeing the "Tall Ships" on the Great Lakes.I was afraid he would be scared by the pirates turning into skeletons, etc. but he was not - in fact he wanted to watch it again and again.So when I saw this book I knew he'd love it, and he does.Every night before bed he takes out all the separate letters and cards, has me read them, then puts them back in their envelopes.He also has me read all the different types of ships over and over again - he can now name some ship types by memory.This book is very well laid out - even I find the information very interesting and learned things I did not know.

My young son and I were both thrilled with this interesting book.All the extras fascinated my son as I hoped they would.

A Useful Resource and Just Plain Fun
This is an attractively put together book on the history and details of pirate life. I have been searching for a resource on the subject that presents information on pirates in such a way as to not seem tedious and boring, but instead inspiring and fun (which, as we all know--pirates are fun!). With all the interest sparked on the pillaging bands of men, and sometimes women, with recent films this volume is a must have for anyone with an interest in pirates. Of course, it would obviously appeal to children and is definitely appropriate for that tender age group, but adults can also find much to appreciate.

Great Introductory Book on Welding
I found this to be the best introductory book on welding that I have seen.Quite of few books give you spotty pieces of information and tell you to "go do it."Others are pricy text books designed for a full school course on welding.This is a straight comprehensive introduction to welding.It starts you off with safety, materials needed to start work and the advantages and disadvantages of each major type of welding.Richard Finch has a smooth writing style and includes good suggestions and advice, including common amature mistakes to avoid.I would have given it 5 stars, but it was last revised in 1997 and some information about equipment is getting dated. ... Good Fundamentals Book by a Talented Writer
This is an excellent book for the modern fundamentals of aircraft control design. Most subjects are clearly treated with just the right amount of illustrations and examples. The author makes good effort of explaining procedures without resorting to function calls from some software package. The last of the book devotes relatively little space to modern control theory. I would hope this talented writer would create something more advanced in the future that would expand on his treatment of the state observer and the use of the cost function.

An excellent introductory book. Highly readable.
The best aspect of this book is the simplicity in the exposition of ideasand concepts while giving more than enough information for an introductorybook. Fully worked out examples are frequent throughout the chapters andhelps even further in getting good grasp of new materials. If the readerhas taken introductory courses in Vibration and/or Feedback Control, thebook should be an easy read.The book is roughly divided into two parts:The flight dynamics part and control part.In the flight dynamics part,the explanation smoothly leads the reader from equation of motion to theconcept of stability derivatives and how they relate to dynamic stability.The derivatives are very well explained and then summarized in tables for aquick reference.In the control part, the author starts from the classiclinear feed back control and proceeds to the modern state space method andintroduces optimal control design using linear quadratic regulator.Thecontrol part is an amazing time saver. I have never seen a more efficientintroduction to optimal control as applied to aircraft dynamics. If thereader wants a full fledged treatment of optimal control of aircraft, thematerials presented here are far from enough, but as an introductory book,this is an excellent exposition that lets the reader get to pace quicklyand have straight forward perspective on the subject. Although there weresome blatant typos, it is an excellent work and I highly recommend thebook.

A lot of info on aircraft control in a small textbook.
I found this textbook to include a large amount of concisely presented material on all aspects of aircraft stability and control and feedback control system design. It covers everything from the atmosphere, to development of forces and moments and equations of motion, to estimation ofstability derivatives, analysis of dynamics and modes of motion, and handyreduced degrees of freedom. It also includes many examples of designingautopilots and stability augmentation systems. I really liked the exampleswhich included both classical and state variable methods. Each chapter alsohas several interesting example problems. I would recommend this text foranyone in the field of aircraft or missile flight controls. The onlydissappointing aspect of the text is what I consider an excessive number oftypographical errors. I would caution anyone not to use the equations orformulas without first checking the derivation. The derivations are clearand concise enough that the reader should be able to find these errors. ... tittled incorrectly
pitiful.this is a short intro to primitive psyc behavior on personal awareness for the road.if it has anything to do with trucking, i missed it.

More BS from a "wanna be"....(who could'nt take it...)
After reading this book (and surviving 29 years in the trucking industry) I am greatly inclined to agree with Mr. Pendergast's points of view. Too much is wasted on trying to fit in with a lifestyle that needs to change, not "be adjusted" to. Sweatshops on Wheels was the definitive book on the current "race to the bottom" of the trucking industry. Want poor wages (when you add up your TOTAL time put in) and NO life ? No real health benefeits or pension (if your non-union) ? Then by all means come join us in the trucking industry and completely throw your life away. Everyone TALKS about doing something to help the driver, but as usual nothing is ever done. Truck drivers are STILL the ONLY labor group in the United States NOT covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act. And this book still does'nt address that..

Think Twice Before Becoming a Trucker, Sonny
The author expresses genuine concern for the welfare of those who may be considering a career in what is the modern-day equivalent of indentured servitude. However, after surviving for many years in the trucking biz, I'd advise all but the most desperate job-seekers to steer clear of the cesspool known as over-the-road trucking. Now, if you enjoy being treated like an animal, enjoy being treated like a common criminal, enjoy surviving on a fat-laden junk food diet and enjoy living on 4-5 hours of sleep every day, then by all means, join up.

Not for the converted
A fine little book, but not for anyone who has already decided to take the step to become carless or car-lite. This book is 10% manual, made up mostly of common sense ideas (never a bad thing), and 90% arguments and statistics meant to convince you to go car free. If you're on the fence about giving up your ride, this is a great read. If you're looking for a book about the experience of being car free or a good instruction manual on doing so, maybe not the way to go. An interesting little read, though.

A book ahead of its time!
This is a tremendous, hard hitting work on many, many levels. Above all, Balish's appeal for freeing ourselves from the tyranny of our automobiles will resonate with a wide readership - those wishing to save money, (LOTS of money), those wanting to simplify their lives, and those wishing to build a more sustainable future.
A book for the times
How to Live Well Without Owning a Car is a book whose time has come.Cast off the chains of car ownership! Chris Balish does an excellent job on the economics of car ownership.He also goes step by step on the nuts and bolts of a car-free life, covering not only the expected (like getting to work and getting your groceries) but also dating and vacationing.This bookis a wonderful resource for anyone who is seriously thinking of living without a car. But there are many people who are just playing with the idea, and it is those people for whom I will be buying the book.Chris has a light touch when he talks about the lifestyle choices that keep people tied to the economic millstone that is car ownership.We choose to live on a bus line or not, we choose to work far from home, we choose to set our lives up so we have to buy things every day rather than plan.I have to laugh as I read my words - as a recent convert to a car-free life, I tend to beat people up with these ideas!Chris makes those points in an easy, non-confrontational way.This is a great book.

Im planning to go into Aviation Management and this is a great book that goes over everything that happens at an airport and how to run an airport!! Great book!!

Creates an excellent foundation.
An excellent book for learning about fiberglass/composites. Before reading this book, I had little knowledge about composties, but a desire to learn. The information is presented in a way that anyone can understand it. Aird educates the reader about different fiber types and weaves, resins and resin systems, gel coat, trade tools, safety, and basic lay-up. He also includes information on molds, plugs, and strength/stress -- though I feel these sections make having some hands-on knowledge of composites an asset, which I lack. It is an excellent book that can take you from knowing nothing, to a point where you can talk intelligently about composites with someone in the FRP field. As other reviews have pointed out, this is not a step by step manual; but is probably a prerequisite to actually understanding one. In conclusion: I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning about fiberglass and composite systems.

Collection of facts on airports around the world
Very well written text book, that has a collection of facts on various airports around the world. Mainly directed to students and professors in Europe and other countries where metric is a standard. I wish the authors have published two versions, one in feet-inches and other in metric. It is a good text for teachers in the undergraduate class, for teaching the basic concept of an airport system and how to manage and operate it. Reference to FAA and ICAO documents is good. I will recommend this text to practicing engineers who can get a grip on the concept of financial management and control in an airport system.

Aviation Managers must read...
Mr. de Neufville and Professor Amedeo Odoni have produced a must read guide to understand where the nexus of theory and the reality of aviation systems come together. Quite thorough and a good read, all the while being an excellent guide to a multitude of topics. Well Done!

Black and White Bliss!
For a T-Bird restoration enthusiast, this book is an amazing resource.The pictures are mostly in black and white. Color would've made it '5-stars'. Nontheless, without a shadow of doubt the book itself is truly a T-Bird lover's collector item.There is a great lot of detail on the A-40 (1954-1957) models. Since I'm doing a 1957, it truly works for me.

The book is a collector's piece in itself
I have owned this book for about 16 or 17 years. It is a fine reference piece, but it should not be compared to current Thunderbird books. There are scores of close-up photographs that show the finer points of Thunderbirds, from the Volumatic Radio to the SwingAway Steering Wheel. The black and white photos do not in any way detract from the history or technological correctness of everything that is presented. If you need color photographs then look elsewhere. If you want well-researched data and wonderful close-ups, then this is the book for you. The book itself is a collector's item because of its period correctness and the fact that when it was published there was no other book that could come close to it in lavishness or completeness. I think that still holds true today.

Thunderbird!
This book has a lot of good information on 1955 thru 1966 Thunderbirds. Although not complete with respect to information on every aspect of a concours restoration, and hindered by mostly black and white photos of thedetails of each year, it is still an excellent resource for anyonerestoring a 1966 or older Thunderbird. It is especially good for thoseinterrested in the two seaters from 55 - 57. This is a good book for theTbird owner as well as those who just plain lovewhat is probably the mostinnovative and trend setting car of the post war era. A must have for anyThunderbird lover. ... Excellent Aviation Reference For All Experience Levels
"The Encyclopedia of Technical Aviation" is a valuable addition to the library of any pilot, or for that matter anyone interested in aviation. It is organized alphabetically, as you would expect, and has extensive explanations of most any aviation related term you can think of. As an aside, the only term I have tried to look up and have not found is "RAT" (Ram Air Temperature). It does include "TAT" (Total Air Temperature), but I was trying to find the definitive answer on how the two differ. Read more

Selling Corporate Aviation!!!
I read the first half of the book and during the entire course of the book, all the author does is "See Corporate Aviation". I would not recommend this book to anyone seriously wanting to get insights into the working and economics of corporate aviation. I guess the author wrote the book to popularise corporate aviaiton.

NBAA Guide Expansion
There are a very few books covering the Corporate Aviation Management topic.I had been waiting for some corporate aviation material for a while, because the existent texts were not updated with the new facts and changes of the business aviation since the 9/11 events.
Excellent Reference
This book was the best reference I had while preparing for the NBAA Certified Aviation Manager's exam in 2004.

A Truly magnificent book, all the photos and drawings a boat enthusiast could ever want.I nice broad range of vessel types covered from racing multihulls to powerboats to keel boats and gaff rigged schooners.

This book is very impressive and the years of extensive work to create and publish this book is amazing!A great conversation piece on a coffee-table.Anyone who enjoys yachts would enjoy this book, whether you have an interest in yacht designing or not.Or maybe I'm just a little partial, as my Dad, William H. Shaw, is one of the yacht designers written about in this bookand I'm very proud of him.

An instant classic. This is an indispensable resource that has been too long in coming. The research is amazingly put together and the depth of entries is impressive. I was particularly interested in the research on Walter Pinaud and the yachting activity around Cape Breton at the turn of the century. Very good reference book for the Lionel train enthusiast.
This book is a must have for the serious collector and casual Lionel train fan alike.The book gives good background information for each segment of Lionel train (locomotives, flat cars, etc.) as well as insightful commentary on each train car model. The pictures are excellent but if you are looking for detailed information on the parts and assembly of the trains then this book will not help.
